Eight points instead, their closest rivals are Leicester City and Chelsea, both on 26 points. Manchester City are fourth on 25 points, while Liverpool lead the pack with 34 points.
They're are comfortable for now, but a lead can be blown within a couple of weeks, so nothing is decided as far as the title is concerned just yet.
Chelsea is doing really serious business in this season and unfortunate City is going to face them in the next match after the defeat of yesterday. I am expecting an exciting match in that match and even Chelsea may manage a win or even a draw. If this happens then  City will have a break in their confidence.

We may see a good contest for 2nd position in this season.

I have not expected anything less from Liverpool but lets not put all the blame on the goal keeper.

The only reason city lost was they played Liverpool like they always play, City has a tactic and they just played it. I am sorry but you can't play against Liverpool the same way you play against any other team.

To tell you the truth, i didn't expect Liverpool to win this match so easily.
I thought that Manchester City is going to be more competitive in order to score a goal and get this match so as to close the gap in the league table. Unfortunately for them, Klopp organized the team very good.

Do you think that with this win, Liverpool is much closer to the winning a title?

I don't think so, season is just heating up, there will be a lot of surprises still. Otherwise i think LP is looking very good this season, and Man City not so good. Not sure if they are washed up or what.
The fact that Liverpool has been superb in EPL this season does not mean that they had seal the title or close to winning it, the league had not reach half and nobody can predict what is going to happen in the next three months though they are sitting at the top of the table comfortably with nine point any flop or string of losses is going to spell doom for their title aspiration.

I think that for this year there is not much left to see because Liverpool by winning yesterday extended their lead and I think it will be difficult for any other team to win the Premier League this year.I also think that Liverpool will not screw it up like they did the last year so I consider the Premier League closed regarding who will win it.
Liverpool has a strong and solid squad in EPL at the moment. Right they should be able to continue to maintain their lead, and be consistent until the end of the season, If want to lift the trophy. Maybe this year the year for Liverpool and ManC will be difficult to catch Liverpool even for Leicester was in second.

You could say the Liverpool player is perfect in his squad, and has a good coach Klopp continues to contribute to his players to remain solid, I'm sure this season Liverpool will lift the EPL and CL trophies.
Klop done good job and he take his time for preparing squad like this now all players doing good job as team required which is great we can say this is perfect team of recent time which can win dual or treble cups this season if they able to hold this all for some more time then surely this is great for Liverpool and fans.

I have not expected anything less from Liverpool but lets not put all the blame on the goal keeper.

Ederson is really a great player but can you say if Ederson was at the goal city would have won this game? I don't think so. Keeper is one of the most important positions in the game and that is why I feel like we all imagined the game would be like this because of the keeper change but at the same time if you check how the goals were scored they were all goals keeper wouldn't be able to save, sure there have been crazier saves but I am siding with the bigger possibility of not being able to save.

The only reason city lost was they played Liverpool like they always play, City has a tactic and they just played it. I am sorry but you can't play against Liverpool the same way you play against any other team.

with ederson absence? you still think manchester city should win?

I had a slight hope that they are determined to get close in table difference b/w them and Liverpool but guess Liverpool had a good team and really played well yesterday.

BTW Sergio Aguero's saga of never scoring a goal at Anfield continues. He had good chances yesterday.  Grin

Congratulations to Liverpool for a 99% chance of winning the EPL title. Just like what Mourinho said as a pundit: "If Liverpool wins the game today, I sink they will win the league."
However, "a slip from Liverpool will always happen." Grin

Lolol.  I can actually hear his voice in my head reading that.  But yeah, there's no doubt they're winning the league with 9 points up and having the better squad than City.

I guess a couple of people will def be happy winning their side bets (and have bragging rights) vs me.  Lol.

Edit:  City should start moving on and go after the cup games and thr CL imho.

Last night Liverpool vs Manchester city was fun one to watch. I was thinking of City to win and get again to No.2 spot but that didn't happened. Lots of missed and close chances and the handball -_-

Anyway yesterday all goals scored were spectacular. Which one do you think was the most spectacular goal? Fabinho? Salah? Mane? Or Silva?

I choose Fabinho one.  Cool
Fabinho goal was the most spectacular,  lots of arguments among me and my friend as regards Fabinho goal
We were arguing that Ederson wouldn't have saved the goal either,  but I'm kind of thinking that Ederson might have saved the goal from such distance,

Man city were robbed off two clear penalties,  but I think Bravo made the game worst for city with his awful goal keeping,  Ederson might have do very well in at least one or two saves from those goals Bravo conceeded

Sir Alex Ferguson made it abundantly clear that titles are mostly won during the December and January period that's when players tend to get injured a lot and when you don't have squad depth, teams suffer a lot because of that and when I look at Liverpool their squad depth ain't really impressive when compared to Manchester City who are once again their main rivals this season. It's far from over this season.

A magnificent victory for Liverpool and after 30 years of waiting championship title is very close for them.
It's very hard to say, but it sure looks like Liverpool have won the league in November, they will have to really lose form and players(injury)to blow this one up, and I do not see it happening. It was a must win game for city to close the gap to three points, but Liverpool were too good for them. All the Liverpool fans around the world can feel it, it seems after so many years of waiting, their time has finally come, let us watch and see if there'll be any more twists.
As a Croat I was particularly impressed with Lovren.
I think Dejan Lovren is a bit underrated in that team, he has been a rock in defence this season, VVD isn't making it easy for him, Virgil is so good that his performances overshadows that of Lovren, even if Lovren may actually have played better in that particular game, but it was clear Lovren was the better of the two yesterday.

He almost have left Liverpool this summer, at one moment  he was the second or third backup and he played great, without a mistake. If the Manchester City players thought he was chance for them, they was wrong.
Klopp and Lovren really have very special relationship and mutual trust.

Liverpool will be firmly on top seeing matches like last night believing they will win the EPL league this year. Next Sunday Liverpool will face Crystal Palace while Manchester City will have to deal with Chelsea and this will make Manchester even worse.

Everything is going Liverpool way at the moment and they have already done great things and got themselves a nice point advantage. I am hoping they will be able to keep it until the end. 30 years of waiting is more than enough for club like Liverpool.

However, nothing is even remotely finished yet. Liverpool will surly have a result crisis at some point and lose a game or few of them. City is going to be there waiting for any slip up to close the gap.

i have 100% feeling liverpool will continue the unbeaten campaign and they did it by smashing manchester city (again) at anfield. the odds were at 2.6 for liverpool which is lyke an easy money , i know everyone here backing liverpool to win , just enjoy the big winning  Wink
interesting scene at the end of the match where pep guardiola sacrastically congratulating the referee by saying "thank you so much" so loud in annoying style , nobody happy with a loss , go home pep.

salah's offside goal is spectacular though hehe , fabinho screamer and silva accuracy , love them all.

Lots of missed and close chances and the handball -_
The handball is what a lot of people will be talking about for a very long time, for me it was two givable penalties, why it wasn't given is what I don't know, I think the footballing body needs needs to address this issue of handball, when is it and when it's not, because there are games you'll watch and that's two penalties for two handballs, but yesterday there was nothing doing from the referee and VAR, that's inconsistent.
I choose Fabinho one.  Cool
It definitely was Fabinho's, his strike was so clean, though the handball by Arnold few seconds before was the only blemish, but the goal stood, and it indeed would be amongst the goals of the season.
Well I would say the referee is in the best position to tell us why he didn't gave man city a penalty or call the attention of VAR after a clearly visible handball by ARNOLD not penalizing arnord for that infringement, coincidentally it was that counter attack that resulted into Liverpool first goal, some weeks ago a clear fowl on Origi also resulted to the goal scored by Rashford these are issues that need to be addressed what is the purpose of VAR? although Liverpool were really on top of their game yesterday with that stunning shot by Fabinho.

Never knew Fabinho could shot a rocket like Ox.

Pretty sure Leicester and Sheffield won't be up there in the top six. City and Chelsea would pressure Liverpool and ready to take advantage. Manchester United would still be a joke

If all top 6 get a draw against each other, that would be good news for Liverpool to increase their leads (asssuming they can win against them tho). I vote for Leicester to finish inside the top 4.
