There was active testing of new forum software back in 2020 (https://coinbistro.com/). A few forum members, including me, actively participated in using new software to find bugs and give feedback. I don't know if there was any progress since then, I stopped participating due to other RL obligations, but as far I can see coinbistro is inactive with last message sent in October 29th 2022.
Yeah, that part of testing ended... at least for now. Most of the testing is now on the server side of the forum, which is being done by a couple of folks, according to what I saw in the discord server and the GitHub repositories. Maybe after that, we will know what the next step might be. Perhaps the long awaited announcement from the Admin about the migration.
These are the repos with the most recent activity. The rest, were last active in 2022

has the new forum been released?
Officially, not yet. They are still working on the server side of it. If you have a discord profile, you can check out the Epochtalk server https://discord.gg/9f2YA4fs (please note that this invite link expires in 7 days)

I believe once they are done with most of the testing, admin will let us know but as of now, we really don't know the ETA.

has the new forum been released?
If yes, what are we still doing here? We should all be in the new forum. Are we sure this is not the new forum software? When substantial changes are made in something old, it could be called new.

Oh, the commits are for epochtalk_server and i see that they are very active indeed. So the epochtalk repo (forum software) is already done? Assuming since the last update was 3 years ago.
It appears to be so as of now according to this announcement 5 years ago. Some members tested the forum software thereafter.

Now, most activity seems to have moved to the server repos.

Check the bitcointalk server here :
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.54403124

There's epochtalk channel to follow the development process.

Can you tell where did you saw this discord channel and what repo they commit this updates? I see no activity on official github of epochtalk. If there's weekly or regualr update on the new software it is good news then.

The hope never dies Smiley

It will come one day, just wonder who will take up the torch when theymos retire.
I hope so, but the last commit on its github was 3 years ago. I wonder if the devs will still continue or does the forum have enough budget to continue the development of that forum software? Or its just that devs doesn't have any interest to continue anymore.  Undecided

lol 10 years. Why create new if there is something out there with full functionality already exist? Vbulletin and phpBB exist.
In his words, the administrator wanted to create an open new forum software that could directly compete with the likes of SMF and phpBB

Work is underway by Slickage on new forum software for this forum. The software will be written in Node.js. The goal is to create new open source forum software that will directly compete with software like SMF and phpBB. Unlike Discourse, the software will be featureful and information-dense. Unlike Reddit, the software will support and encourage lengthy, high-quality posts (while allowing shorter posts). The software will be a jump forward from our current forum, but not something entirely new. The basic concepts will stay the same, but with significantly better code, better methods of filtering the huge amount of content, and many other useful features. All old forum data will be retained and migrated to the new software.

I don't know if this dream is a strong as before but to me, I think we many never see that forum software come to life or by the time we decide to migrate there, a lot may have changed and what we think will be the "new" forum software will be years "old" compared to other software available.

SMF and phpBB isn't that popular these days. And even now, IMO some modern-looking forum software (such as Discouse and Flarum) already feels newer than Epochtalk.

I mean we are not guarding smaug treasure here if the reason is security.
Maybe we are but on a serious note, whether Bitcointalk migrates to an Epochtalk-based forum or not, we shouldn't undermine the importance of having an impenetrable/secure forum [e.g. there are a lot of valuable accounts that need protection from the outside].

I just want to see more colorful background, and sorting feature, shouldn't really hard to develop
Some users made the necessary tools to change its theme [use the search feature on the Meta board (I prefer not to vouch, so DYOR)] and about sorting features, you can refer to "this thread".

It's now roughly a decade and 10 days since the idea to build a new forum software was conceived. Bitcoin is 2,981 blocks (as of now) away to it fourth halving event which is happening some day next month, and yet we have no hope as to when the oldest and biggest cryptocurrency forum will eventually migrate to the new 10-year-old open source forum software.

Please Admin, don't let a number of us die before we see Bitcointalk on the new forum software 😬

It's not palatable at all because this kind of situation bring loss of hope over something I can't say that the developers are not working either their efforts is not enough but double their efforts to bring the desire if the people to reality either by seeking more work force to actualize this within a space of time. Also let them come up with the user interface that give the people final hope that they are already there irrespective time loss when one arrived to it destination I think the joy wipe away the sorrow encountered during the process.

It's been about 5 years since then, I'm close to 50 and I'm still waiting,
I registered around the same time and also met the same talk about the new forum software being ready "soon". Comparing the talk about it then with now, it's obvious a lot of users are no longer anticipating it and have resigned to the fact that it would my be ready soon.

Let's give it the next 5 years and see what progress we make.

Well I would like to dance towards giving it some times even if my years can't be specific I believe five years as you said can be ok, but my question is why awaiting and progress been made in it what are the means or process of one being keep updated to know if what we are hoping to see in five years is actually achieving it dream or aim objective. This update us necessary to enable the enthusiastic people to give more courage should there be any slack if draw back encouragement can save as motivation to achieve it.

There are so many smart people on the forum. Why can't they complete the beta-testing of epochtalk? Busy with signatures campaigns?

Oh, what a world, what a world

Smart doesn't mean they have design or specific programming knowledge to participate on epochtalk development.
