I guess that a lot of us were expecting to see messi vs CR7 at the finals. It would be amazing and story would be written around it.
This would have been unlikely, unlikely based on the part of Portugal as it actually turned out but, a world cup final between Messi and Ronaldo would have been epic. Two GOATs, locked in an epic of having a chance to end there national careers with a trophy that have eluded both and most of all, one gets to deprive the other of the opportunity, it would have been sweet savory for history.
Still okay, Messi got it and that's enough for them no or should should say, Messi. Can't say Ronaldo is exactly happy for him, lol.

The France vs Argentina World Cup was already epic, how much more if it's Portugal vs Argentina, right? I'd say epic will be an understatement because that is the world's dream match-up especially for the avid football fans out there. Well, what we saw in the recent Qatar World Cup is already a treat because the match-up was so intense and for me, it's already the best World Cup.

Sadly, both Messi and CR7 might not be around anymore in the next world cup. Some are already saying that the latter's last dance will in the Euro '24.
Really? With how he performed this World Cup he's far from being weakened due to aging. Messi is still pretty much powerful and a good football player at that so if you could give me an explanation as to why people infer that he's gonna retire it would be great. The same can be said for CR7. Is he retiring? Is his loss really that devastating that he'd rather just quit football instead of trying for the next world cup? I think these two GOATS are still very much strong in their own right to quit playing. Maybe these are just speculations.

Leo Messi proof himself once again as the outstanding GOAT in football with no argument or doubts from the both parties. Everyone was hoping to see Ronaldo and Messi in the final for the real GOAT debate. But unfortunately Portugal got eliminated from the world cup in the quarter finals by Morocco. Messi and Ronaldo have been in competition for decades with both winning awards and breaking unforgettable records in football. There's a new heights for the both players when they would retired from football.

Well, this is something that we all know very well, the only thing is that I think that in the semifinals things got very rough, where without a doubt Argentina and France set the example, and the semifinals cannot be denied, but they were super exciting , my dream ending was that CR7 could arrive with Portugal, and having seen CR7 vs Messi, since they have received a lot of criticism, but things always happen for a reason and if everything happened like this it is because it had to have happened like that, the champion Argentina was indisputably one of the most promising, the bets were almost equal, both for Argentina and for France they were equal.

I think most of the world kinda hoped that Messi retired with the world cup trophy.

It was like a happy ending of a story, everyone loves a happy ending Smiley

And now we just need to wait four more years to see the next version of the world cup, with many more teams qualified, and in North America: Canada, USA, and Mexico will be hosting it in 2026.
Argentina is celebrating its success in winning the world cup trophy, Messi is one of the happiest figures for this success. Now he has got what he wanted all this time, the demands of the world cup trophy have been fulfilled which is the end of a beautiful story during his career with the Argentina national team. 2026 may no longer have Messi's name in the Argentina squad, but after winning the world cup trophy he had said he still wanted to play as world champion with Argentina.

I wonder why he would have said that because he already won his last worldcup and that should be a good end to his career at worldcup.
Why would he want to play the next worldcup. May be he would lose which would be a bad end to his worldcup career.
I personally think he won't play the next worldcup but continue to play the other matches.

I guess that a lot of us were expecting to see messi vs CR7 at the finals. It would be amazing and story would be written around it. I know that many of the sheiks in Qatar were also expecting that to happen and some even bet millionson that option, but unfortunately, it did not happen and Im afraid we will never have thesame chance ever again.

This World Cup was good for many gamnblers by the way considering group matches and overall results. Least likely things that happened: "Brazil was eliminated early", "Morocco finishing at top and beating Spain later", "Japan finishing at top", "Germany leaving at group stage" also "Belgium with same", "Uruguay getting eliminated in group stage was also surprise" So people should never underestimate weaker nations. They can beat more recognized nations, indeed.

I don't think that gamblers like unexpected situations. Yes, someone could have won pretty big if they bet that Saudi Arabia would won against Argentina. But gamblers rarely bet on high stakes. They like to combine more bets with lower odds and then something happens (like S. Arabia win against Argentina) and they lose money.
No gambler wants to bet in such a situation because there is a 99% chance of losing his money so no one wants to waste his money. And if someone wants to take Ricks then he never wants to bet a big amount there maybe they can leave a small amount there so they get a big return according his betting amount from it but not a very big money. I enjoyed that match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia and when Saudi Arabia offered 100x then I wanted to bet $10 there but I accidentally skipped it.

That's exactly what I said. No serious gambler will bet on high odds because there is high chance of losing his money. It's better to stack up few bets with low odds and earn money. The problem is that every now and then an upset like this happens and that's what gambling sites are making their money on. Gambling sites actually like when an upset happens because there is much more people betting on the expected result than on an upset.
Only those who have huge amount of money will invest in high odds.  But I don't think anyone can invest there more than $100 max.  But gamblers will be more likely to invest 5 to 10 dollars and a small number of people can invest up to 100 dollars there. and they are winner of these odds who have a great  luck. I have never won any odd like this

I think we all already know that Argentina has won the world cup this year, yesterday's final match was a class match so it will be history for both of them, both teams played well even though in the end the victory was determined by a penalty shootout, congratulations to Argentina

i think the OP needs to lock this thread because the world cup is over  Wink
The final was totally  under Argentina control they were all over the game from the start , although Mbappe tried his best to change the course but he didn't succeed in that .
Congratulations Argentina on  becoming football champions for next 4 years. Messi deserved this win undoubtedly he played final like a fighter his energy level was too high.
Mbappe can still appear in the next world cup even he will no longer meet players who will be great competitors for him like messi, ronaldo and others because I think they have retired it will be a world cup that maybe he will easily overcome, so mbappe will be future great player  Wink

Yes 2026 tournament will be a great tournament, because many of the teams that did not play for the year edition will play in the 2026 version. But this one you mentioned China, I have not seen china played in a world not even in the qualification stage including India. These two countries are always excepted. I think because of their inability to quantify at the qualification level that making then not to appear in the world cup tournaments.

Yeah, one thing some people forget is that the world cup is an incredibly competitive tournament.

Even Italy failed to qualify for Qatar 2022.

So it's not really the case that FIFA doesn't like certain countries, or things like that, it's actually that Europe and South America consistently produce the best teams for the competition, and therefore end up winning the most trophies.

If anything, I could argue that Europe and South America should have even more slots than what they have at the moment, as many talented countries from there couldn't qualify.

You forgot to mention that Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the second time in a row, which is clearly not a coincidence but an indicator of the crisis of Italian national football.
As for the rest, the European and South American national teams are still better than the national teams from other continents and achieve better and better results at the world championships, but this difference is getting smaller and smaller at each world championship, and the Asian and African national teams achieve better and better results at each the next world championship.
It is no coincidence that South Korea was fourth at the 2002 World Cup and Morocco fourth at this World Cup.
And in the future, there will be even more successes like this of Asian and African national teams.

Yes the continents of Europe and South America traditionally produce the strongest
teams, it was great to see Morocco reach the semi finals and maybe they will achieve
the same or better at the next one.

How did everyone's betting go during the competition and especially for the Final?

Sadly for my own wallet I had France to win.

It's nice that Messi has finally become world champion. He reached the final in 2014 with argenitnie, but Germany was too strong then. It also fits the best footballer of all time. We can come to that conclusion now that he also has that title in his possession. Maradona would have been proud of Messi and his country. Too bad he didn't get to experience it. But Argentina has also been lucky. You enforce that in some duels according to the specialists. Messi will continue to represent Argentina for a while, if only to not disappoint the supporters.

Messi will be happy. At least he got a chance to be part of the world cup winning squad once in his career (and furthermore, he was the captain). On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo will probably retire without ever managing to lift the trophy (I am not sure whether he will be a part of the 2026 edition). And there are some players who finally got an opportunity to participate in the world cup, such as Gareth Bale of Wales. In case of Bale, he didn't ended up like Goran Pandeev (who will retire from international football without ever getting an opportunity to play in the world cup).
Messi has achieved what he dreamt about throughout his life and that's an achievement for any one , Messi attitude towards football is very passionate and he's extremely respectful towards his fellow players . Ronaldo lost his last opportunity to win the trophy which is really sad for him , but his attitude was too rude and he was so distant from his team that what we have seen in recent world cup.
At least Ronaldo gets the highest fee among other football stars, which can be a source of pride for him. Even though he never lifted the World Cup trophy, that should be enough for him because he has a lot of money which will be more than enough even when he decides to retire. And Messi will retire at the peak of his World Cup career and Maradona will surely be proud to see him there. The World Cup always surprises us, which is what many people have been waiting for.

On many occasions, and I don't remember which bitcointalk threads it was, but there were many who did not trust England's performance at all, of course because of what they had shown in the Nations League, which for me is not a significant thing because in It is obvious that they do not play 100%, in fact all the European teams did not look very good, because they played with their bench, the coaches were looking at who they could summon for the World Cup, apart from the fatigue of their leagues, the players come of a process, of a very different concentration, all these things influence, now England has many possibilities to go as far as they want.

I am actually very impressed with England's performance, they are one of the strong candidates in this edition of the World Cup. The Three Lions have shown their quality to reach the quarterfinals. It must be remembered that England were Euro 2020 finalists and now Southgate has been able to improve the performance of this team to be more prepared in this tournament. The proof is that the performance of English players is very qualified, their attack line is also one of the sharpest to date and Southgate has many alternatives to carry out his strategy on the field.
Yes, there are many things that can happen, in fact I am very surprised to learn that David Beckham is one of the official sponsors of the World Cup in Qatar and that he was very well received by the England coach giving him a shirt in his honor, of course, We all know the track record he has, and how they want him on their team, so I imagine he's an icon for many players on the team and boy, I'd like to see more of Beckham taking those free kicks he always did, these things make the oral of the English team goes up more and they come out more motivated, the majority grew up admiring it.

However, it caught my attention that when Messi published a photo on his twitter of when he was a child, Beckham put him as "The King", it seemed like a great gesture from the English, because it is something that he himself admits is the best of the world.

I am super-excited for the 2026 edition. There will be a total of 48 teams and we can expect more and more upsets against the top teams. And there will be a lot more diversity, with additional teams from Africa, Asia and Oceania. Teams such as New Zealand and Nigeria deserves to be in the world cup, and so does China and Indonesia. Let the FIFA world cup be more representative. The current format gives too much importance to teams from UEFA and CONMEBOL. There is a lot of talent in Asia and Africa, and it will be showcased during the 2026 edition.
Having 48 teams will be great, it will allow a lot more teams to participate and we are going to watch a lot more teams try to win. It's good to see yourself represented there, even if you lose during the group stages, you at least get 3 games of your nation on world cup and that matters, even if you lose all three, you were at least there and that's amazing feeling.

From what I gather it will be 16 groups with 3 teams each, and that will end up being the top two teams going up again, so 16 teams will be eliminated on group stages and then 32 teams will play against each other in a tournament style of thing, and then last 16 and so forth like we have it now.
