Portugal defeated Switzerland 6:1. In that match, Ronaldo was not in the starting lineup. He went on the field after 70 minutes. Santos picked the optimal squad for the match. But it didn't work against Morocco. I think Santos simply underestimated the Moroccans. All in all, this is a good coach who made a small mistake.
Santos has found the best formula for his squad, despite not playing one of the best player for 70 minutes against Switzerland and 50 minutes against Morocco. I don't think Santos underestimates the quality of the opposing team, but Santos doesn't want his game to be centered on Ronaldo, who might be more dangerous for his team.

Many people say Portugal's game is better without Ronaldo, but not a few of them are denied by fans. Small mistakes will become big when the team loses, but if Portugal win against Morocco then surely Santos will be praised. The World Cup is over, and now what else.

I never knew that the world cup trophy is such a unique thing and that no one can touch it.
I read on instagram that Salt Bea is banned - because he touched the trophy.
That's is very new thing for me.
I want to say something about Messi's Argentina team, Messi is the best living legend now, probably no one has a career record equal to him. There is nothing to say about Messi's imperfections now. Lionel Messi's World Cup was only imperfectly filled with imperfection, aided greatly by his luck.

Well it was a normal decision after three goals that Ramos continues to play instead of Ronaldo. But ended up being a really bad decision. I dont know who let Salt bae ok the field it was a wrong decision he just was boring and took too many pictures with the trophy

Having Messi and Ronaldo leaving the game is really something to worry about, there rivalry is just unique. Messi has already ended the whole debate of who's the GOAT, no sentiment. Even if Messi retires today he'll be happy that he has done it all, what more does he need to prove that he's the greatest of all time? Let's give the guy some credit.

Age is really not on both Messi and Ronaldo's side, but I think Messi can still play in the next world cup not Ronaldo. The Portugal national team can decide to drop him and before you know it he might choose to retire. Ronaldo's speed and contribution to the Portugal national team is no longer there. He's now a shadow of him self.

That's a bit harsh on Ronaldo, IMO. Messi won the world cup for his country, but that doesn't mean that now we can say with 100% confidence that he is a better player when compared to Ronaldo. In case of Messi, he had full support from his coach and teammates. On the other hand, Ronaldo was constantly humiliated during Qatar 2022 by the coach (Fernando Santos), and he didn't received much support from his teammates. It would be wrong to say that Ronaldo is a shadow of what he was earlier. If you don't give him the opportunity to play, how can you claim that his skills have degraded?
Well, the way the Argentina team and coach have all prioritized Messi has brought out Messi's best and best game.  And he succeeded.  It can be said that Ronaldo did not get any advantage in Setulna.  He is also a player who, like Messi, can single-handedly carry a team and make something new happen.  So should have kept Ronaldo on the field and fixed the rest of the squad.
In the football world were shocked by the coach Fernando Santos's decision. If Portugal had won the match at the coach's discretion, there would have been no discussion about it. But what's the point of sitting him down and bringing him on the field at the end after a goal conceded. Many were angry with the coach Fernando Santos when no one agreed with him. He eventually could not survive as a coach. I think at that moment coach's decision was suicidal.
He ultimately did not survive as a coach, and may now coach elsewhere.  His career will continue.  But in such a suicidal defeat, the dreams, careers of Portugal and Portugal fans were all but destroyed.  Especially one of the best players in the world, Ronaldo's last World Cup did not give him a chance to do anything good and for the last team.  There may be some kind of dirt inside.

That was really sad end of Cristiano Ronaldo career , coach decision was of not letting him play was really humiliating and shocking for a player like Ronaldo.  Then sending him in game when Morocco scored goal that was extremely shameful.
Cristiano was going to retire after World cup and giving is such type of farewell wasn't justified.

These people never learn. They should not take him for granted. This is definitely not the way to treat a legendary player. And it was more shocking to see that no action was taken against Fernando Santos, who took the decision to keep Ronaldo away from the starting XI. Portugal lost the match against Morocco only because of this blunder. And Fernando Santos refused to admit his mistake even after the match. I was really angry when the match started and I don't think that Portugal national team deserves someone like Ronaldo playing for them.

but I believe with Brazil have opportunity can lead to next round until final in World Cup 2022.

Brazil's potential to reach the World Cup final this year maybe only be fully predicted after seeing the team that will be their opponent in the semifinals between Argentina or the Netherlands. The most difficult point to predict is the semifinals because there will be the four best teams that will face each other to reach the 2022 world cup final.
I could not deny that all this will always revolve around Brazil, I know that from the beginning things in the World Cup were very different, and very strange, everyone expected that the strongest teams would always win, but it was not like that + Yes, the case Germany and Spain are the most obvious, some teams have everything to fight for, and some outstanding teams like Japan and Morocco that have gone very far, all these things are the most beautiful in the World Cup, these things are what makes it the most The World Cup was controversial (for Qatar) and also because of all the things that were discussed, and also because of the surprises that occur in soccer.

Since Argentino became the greatest soccer sovereign, many things have been speculated, more than anything about the goalkeeper and about Messi, according to what he said when he arrived in Argentina that he wanted another cup, making the Argentines much more excited.

Comparison between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo right now have ended after Messi success won World Cup trophy and Cristiano Ronaldo loss his opportunity to close football career with World Cup trophy. Due his age almost 38 years seems impossible for Cristiano Ronaldo can have the same achievement with Lionel Messi.

Left several season both player in football and we can see who have higher level and get many trophies before retired from football, but still sadness with Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't new team right now after mutual contract with Manchester United.
Of course by getting the world cup trophy, Lionel Messi is superior compared to CR7, because Ronaldo did not get the trophy and there was no longer time for Ronaldo to win it considering he was already 38 years old.

But regarding the new contract after the end of Manchester United, there are still many clubs who want to sign him. Even though his performance has decreased, of course, with some other straikers he is still able to compete. Apart from that, buying Ronaldo for a club will increase their turnover, because there are so many Ronaldo fans, and they will move to the club where Ronaldo is.

I guess that a lot of us were expecting to see messi vs CR7 at the finals. It would be amazing and story would be written around it.
This would have been unlikely, unlikely based on the part of Portugal as it actually turned out but, a world cup final between Messi and Ronaldo would have been epic. Two GOATs, locked in an epic of having a chance to end there national careers with a trophy that have eluded both and most of all, one gets to deprive the other of the opportunity, it would have been sweet savory for history.
Still okay, Messi got it and that's enough for them no or should should say, Messi. Can't say Ronaldo is exactly happy for him, lol.
Leo Messi proof himself once again as the outstanding GOAT in football with no argument or doubts from the both parties. Everyone was hoping to see Ronaldo and Messi in the final for the real GOAT debate. But unfortunately Portugal got eliminated from the world cup in the quarter finals by Morocco. Messi and Ronaldo have been in competition for decades with both winning awards and breaking unforgettable records in football. There's a new heights for the both players when they would retired from football.
Messi and Ronaldo complement each other.  Having one made it easy to measure the other.  And they have taken football to a unique height to prove themselves the best.  But the best of the best is one.  And that is currently Lionel Messi.

Well, this is something that we all know very well, the only thing is that I think that in the semifinals things got very rough, where without a doubt Argentina and France set the example, and the semifinals cannot be denied, but they were super exciting , my dream ending was that CR7 could arrive with Portugal, and having seen CR7 vs Messi, since they have received a lot of criticism, but things always happen for a reason and if everything happened like this it is because it had to have happened like that, the champion Argentina was indisputably one of the most promising, the bets were almost equal, both for Argentina and for France they were equal.

I think most of the world kinda hoped that Messi retired with the world cup trophy.

It was like a happy ending of a story, everyone loves a happy ending Smiley

And now we just need to wait four more years to see the next version of the world cup, with many more teams qualified, and in North America: Canada, USA, and Mexico will be hosting it in 2026.
Argentina is celebrating its success in winning the world cup trophy, Messi is one of the happiest figures for this success. Now he has got what he wanted all this time, the demands of the world cup trophy have been fulfilled which is the end of a beautiful story during his career with the Argentina national team. 2026 may no longer have Messi's name in the Argentina squad, but after winning the world cup trophy he had said he still wanted to play as world champion with Argentina.

I wonder why he would have said that because he already won his last worldcup and that should be a good end to his career at worldcup.
Why would he want to play the next worldcup. May be he would lose which would be a bad end to his worldcup career.
I personally think he won't play the next worldcup but continue to play the other matches.

I guess that a lot of us were expecting to see messi vs CR7 at the finals. It would be amazing and story would be written around it. I know that many of the sheiks in Qatar were also expecting that to happen and some even bet millionson that option, but unfortunately, it did not happen and Im afraid we will never have thesame chance ever again.

Well it's obvious that we won't see Messi vs Ronaldo in the worldcup ever again now since Messi is retiring from worldcup.
But may be if he still continues to play other matches then may be there might be a chance to see them competing.
We never know what the future has for us. Both are legends and it's good to watch them play at their best.

That might be the case in the upcoming World Cup 2026 where there might be no Messi and Ronaldo anymore and since both of them are aging already, so even though we say that they still move quite agile for their current age, time will come that father time will catch up to them and so is the wear and tear that they've received so far since they played professional football. But given that scenario, I'm already happy that in the end, at least one of them had the chance to secure the championship.

The France vs Argentina World Cup was already epic, how much more if it's Portugal vs Argentina, right? I'd say epic will be an understatement because that is the world's dream match-up especially for the avid football fans out there. Well, what we saw in the recent Qatar World Cup is already a treat because the match-up was so intense and for me, it's already the best World Cup.

Sadly, both Messi and CR7 might not be around anymore in the next world cup. Some are already saying that the latter's last dance will in the Euro '24.
Really? With how he performed this World Cup he's far from being weakened due to aging. Messi is still pretty much powerful and a good football player at that so if you could give me an explanation as to why people infer that he's gonna retire it would be great. The same can be said for CR7. Is he retiring? Is his loss really that devastating that he'd rather just quit football instead of trying for the next world cup? I think these two GOATS are still very much strong in their own right to quit playing. Maybe these are just speculations.

As what I've said, I used the word might. Which also means that it's not yet guaranteed or sure that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will retire in the speculated years.

I don't know if they will indeed retire soon but we all know that CR7 is already old enough to relax and enjoy what he achieved in his professional career as he will turn 38 years old this coming February 2023, that's why it's been said that Euro '24 will be his final dance. I mean, isn't it reasonable? CR7 will be almost 42 years old at that time if he will still play in the next World Cup which is in 2026. For Messi, maybe he will be playing at the next World Cup but that's not yet definite as of now.
