A friend of mine who is recovering from gambling addiction told me that the moment he gets paid he doesn't keep the money in his account for up to an hour so he doesn't end up getting tempted to use for gambling, he immediately uses those funds to pay up all his bills then send the rest to his savings account so he doesn't have access to it. He has made a lot of progress over the couple of months. Most gamblers think that going for therapy is enough, it's not going to do anything for you if you don't make a conscious effort to improve your life and make better decisions.

I know that you feel a bit of relief now you share your ugly experience with gambling. Greedy and pursuing losses in gambling have done more damage than good in gambling, that we have many individuals learning to pursue their gambling losses instead of gambling for fun, which at the very end of their gambling activities, they tend to regret it all because they didn't recover what their aim was, to recover their losses but create more problems for themselves to lose more.

However, your gambling story is the true definition of what most gamblers see in their daily habit of gambling. The way to escape it, is from what you have stated "as being busy and focusing on work".

While this close connection between my healing process and working in the gambling industry is without actually gambling, doesn’t tempt me anymore.
Do you experience any internal cognitive dissonance after your "sobering up with a hangover" and continuing to work in the gambling industry? I've heard stories of people who, after many years of working in the gambling industry, developed an aversion to everything related to gambling, especially after learning the "inner workings".

That said, I still remain in touch with the gambling field as part of my work and lifestyle which I genuinely enjoy.
What exactly do you enjoy about this lifestyle? With regard to working in this industry.

Gambling is dangerous and not just for new players but also for experienced ones like me who are fully aware of its risks.
After eliminating risk fun (and probably profit) from this lifestyle?

Here are a few strategies I found helpful in staying away from gambling all this time:
- Keeping myself busy and focusing on work.
It seems to me that it may not only be work (although it is certainly easier to organize yourself in terms of employment and distraction from gambling, given that it brings in money that allows you to compensate for losses and debts in gambling), but any other activity that allows you to refocus from gambling. Hobbies, studies, other entertainment. Even if it's communication on this forum. Anything that will captivate and distract you.

Apart from the mentioned strategies, I want to suggest some more strategies. Try to spend time with your family or loved ones. This will keep you busy and will help you to stay away from screens, and eventually you will try to decrease the addiction of gambling. Apart from this, you need to do tasks that will keep you occupied throughout the day. You can learn some new skills like driving, painting, or coding and can use that to earn some cash if possible. These are some of the best things that you can actually try to get rid of the gambling addiction.

I would love to hear about your experiences if you faced addiction or any opinions, suggestions, or stories you like to share. Let’s support one another on this journey.

In my case, I didn't become addicted to gambling, but a few years ago when I started with sports betting, on my first day I placed a bet and lost. Up until then, everything was normal because anyone loses a bet. But I noticed that throughout the day I just kept thinking about how I could bet again and win. Even when I was sleeping, I would wake up and keep thinking about sports betting. I placed another bet and lost. 2 days had already passed and I couldn't stop thinking about sports betting... So I spent 2 weeks betting and losing, until I started to realize that what was happening to me wasn't normal. That's why I decided to give up sports betting. But as a farewell, I decided to make one last bet and I was lucky enough to win so much that I got my bet back. That day I never used that bookmaker again, even though it was a good bookmaker. 3 or 4 years later I went back to betting on sports, but I imposed a lot of rules on myself and I no longer have the same problem as before. I only bet for fun and I don't chase losses.

This topic is dedicated to discussing my healing process and the first steps I have taken to rebuild my life. I decided not to chase my losses and have self-excluded my accounts from many casinos. I won’t lie to you, over the past month I felt the urge to gamble for fun. But what has helped me to not do it is the support and encouragement from this community and some of its members, to restart everything and find more jobs.

Here are a few strategies I found helpful in staying away from gambling all this time:
- Keeping myself busy and focusing on work.
- Watching documentaries about people recovering from gambling addiction and how they have turned their lives around to the best.
- Spending the money I earn on paying bills and expenses beside the friends I took loand from, which brings me relief and a sense of control fighting the chaos gambling created in my life.

That said, I still remain in touch with the gambling field as part of my work and lifestyle which I genuinely enjoy. My deep knowledge of this field feels valuable to me and I choose not to let it go to waste. While this close connection between my healing process and working in the gambling industry is without actually gambling, doesn’t tempt me anymore. Day by day, the desire to gamble is fading and I feel stronger in my journey.

I would love to hear about your experiences if you faced addiction or any opinions, suggestions, or stories you like to share. Let’s support one another on this journey.

Warm regards,
GxSTxV
I would recommend you that you also watch documentaries about other addictions, as the process of addiction itself is very similar regardless of the actual source of addiction, that being said, you should really find a way to make money that is not related to gambling at all, this is because it is known that going back to the circumstances in which you used to gamble can become a trigger which may make you to gamble out of control again, this is why recovering addicts stay away from the places, people and circumstances that fueled their addictions, as this is the only realistic way to keep themselves away from it.

Looking back to my situation it was greed and the desire to make money easily that tricked me into addiction.
This is the part that breaks many of us gambler's, thinking gambling is easy money...from experience I have had my fair share thinking even the likes of 1.01 odds would keep you invisible, but trust me in a game of probability you can never be 100% certain!

Great share btw  Smiley

However, a few months later I made a series of bad decisions. I gambled away a significant amount of money that was meant to pay off an important loan.
Hope you recover from this one Bro.

Buy more time from the lender and see how you can break the chunck down.

Otherwise tough lesson learnt,  I like the approach used to fight this vice and keep helping others battling with gambling addiction with your methods.

Reading stories like this is really inspiring and shows that anyone can get out of addiction if they truly discipline themselves. Self-discipline is all that matters.

I have not really been addicted to gambling before, but I know I have been training myself not to gamble above my limit, and so far, so good. I have been doing great; ordinarily, I prefer gambling just on weekends.

It's really nice that you are able to get out of it, and you should continue keeping your distance from it; at least people will learn from your story directly or indirectly.

I am not addicted to gambling, but I have friends who are, and it's pretty evident in the way that they deal with life. When they get money, they try to push themselves and dilute their minds with the gambling fallacy that they can win because they have already lost so much. It's something that you can see.

I believe there are many things that could help you, like seeking professional help, setting yourself boundaries, and lessening the habit little by little. Be mindful of what you are doing, and you will be okay.

I think what you experienced is also experienced by many gamblers especially those here but in the end only some of them are truly able to realize their mistakes regarding the perspective on winning in gambling, I agree with what you said that knowledge regarding the risks is not enough to keep you safe, self-control is much more important than that, I myself am one of the gamblers who managed to recover from addiction by making experience as a learning material.

On the other hand, you have good suggestions and input on how to recover from addiction and from some of the points you convey honestly what I think is much more effective in curing someone from addiction is by keeping yourself busy with various physical activities such as main jobs or adding side jobs to fill your free time, I have proven that this method is really effective in reducing your level of interest in gambling, believe me as time goes by you will also forget about gambling. Yes, recovering from gambling addiction is a very difficult task. But it is not impossible. You can recover yourself from this if you try properly. op has given some very important tips that an addicted gambler can follow to recover himself. One of them is to keep yourself busy with other things. This will be very beneficial because when you are busy with something, your gambling will automatically decrease. And slowly you will continue to recover. But keep yourself occupied in something where you have responsibility. Only then will it work for you

Also, if we are influenced by gambling because of friends at the hangout, it is better to temporarily never visit the hangout first. Maybe it will be something that makes people at the hangout sneer at you.
If we are online players who play alone at home, then keeping ourselves busy until we are really tired every day is indeed the right way. Maybe we won't have time to visit or open a casino.
Start by making a list of activities that will keep you busy.

Recovery is always the hardest, and it should be backed by good planning that will replace addiction to our system. its better if your road to recovery is customized for you by a professional because every addict to gambling is not the same when it comes to changing their behavior, but if you think you have the will and your methods are working with you, then proceed and modify from time to time.

It is indeed difficult for us as humans who are always trapped in gambling, even though there are many gambling promotions from all over the world that make us unable to avoid it, what's more, gambling sites have penetrated the digital world so whatever we can to avoid serious addiction to gambling, even though we ourselves are promoting gambling sites but with this thread chat. we can control ourselves so as not to get caught up in gambling that makes us addicted which endangers our finances in the future, with tips from OP at least we can take an example from OP's journey to stop being addicted to gambling.
Whatever finds abusive will always be difficult to get away at. Just like with gambling addiction, it takes so easy  to make yourself addicted but it’s too hard for us then to untie the rope that connects us into gambling. This is the reason why we should never gamble with our emotions, otherwise we’ll end up getting trapped.

Gambling addiction is no doubt very tormenting. Without self-encouragement and motivation to move forward, with the aid of medical practitioners and loved ones, we will never get out from this traumatic phase of our life.

The first time I saw a post like that, which not only shared his expertise but also his experiences, the best thing about this post was that he provided alternatives for how someone can recover from gambling addiction. Addiction itself is a bad thing, not only gambling, but every kind of addiction is detrimental to us. In gambling, I have seen many people who gain profits in large amounts, but at the same time, I have also seen those who lost all their assets to gambling. People earn money like sports gamblers, but they are very strict about their rules. They don't succumb to greed or chase their losses, instead, they have great control over their emotions, and that's why they earn more and more money. You will be a good gambler if you have a combination of knowledge and control.

As the post is related to gambling addiction, I would recommend the OP's post to those individuals who are willing to overcome their gambling addiction. The OP provides the best strategies to stay away from gambling.

I am happy for you. This is a difficult feat, to tell yourself that you would like some change in your life and forcing the habit out of our system. I've been through this but I know I am not that deep yet and so I easily recovered from it. There are clues on how we can tell we are almost in gambling addiction. One is when we gamble even if there is an event of a relative. Two is when we even bring our smartphones to the bathroom doing number 2 just to gamble. Three is when we just cannot stop depositing 3-5 times a day. Those are signs that we need to clear our head and think of our future without gambling in our life.

one great achievement for you OP, I salute you where you work as a speaker about gambling but you try not to fall into gambling again, OP I want to ask, after you stopped gambling did your gambling friends distance themselves from you, or did they try to pull you back, how do you deal with the incident if you are invited and always invited to gamble again by your previous friends

Yes op's advices are really effective but if you don't follow all of them then there is no problem but if you follow some points you can keep yourself away from gambling.
- keep busy yourself with another multiple work
- stop tracking gambling site or Ann
- do not meet together with your friend who also addicted on gambling
- stop discussing about your gambling story.
- invest your money in the same strong physical assets like gold land price Bond etc
If someone follow those some key point then he or she can easily avoid gambling

Thank you for sharing that with us. That was brave of you to detail everything that you went through and I am glad that you are okay now.

I second everything the OP said. We cannot let gambling control us but it should be the vice versa. Control yourself to gamble more and dedicate a fixed amount to gambling that you will strictly follow. When I say "strictly" it is meant to stop whenever the fixed amount is gone even if you lost in just 5 minutes.
Don't let your vengeful emotion cloud your decision-making. This is where it all goes wrong because we are too fixed on getting our revenge.

For recovery I also second what OP mentioned in number 1. Keep yourself busy with other things and not gambling. For me, I went back to playing MMORPG and just enjoyed the company of other people through chat.
