The lofty motto of the Environmental Protection Agency is “protecting people and the environment.” In practice, however, EPA bureaucrats faithfully protect their own people and preserve the government’s cesspool of manipulation, cover-ups, and cronyism.

Just last week, Mark Levin and his vigilant Landmark Legal Foundation went to court to ask federal district judge Royce Lamberth to sanction the EPA “for destroying or failing to preserve emails and text messages that may have helped document suspected agency efforts to influence the 2012 presidential election.” The motion is part of a larger Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit to force the EPA to release emails and related records from former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and others “who may have delayed the release dates for hot-button environmental regulations until after the Nov. 6, 2012, presidential election.” .... much more

EPA Chief: Don’t Worry About Proof, Just Trust The Government When It Comes To Global Warming…





Americans are just going to have to trust the EPA’s 44 years of experience dealing with environmental issues when it comes to figuring out ways to cope with man-made global warming, says the agency’s chief.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told Big Think in an interview that while there are limits to how much the federal government can do for issues like global warming, the public needs to trust how the EPA translates the “complicated” science into real-life actions.

“Well I think we all have to recognize the strengths and limitations of government action,” McCarthy said. “But here’s what I think we can do at the federal level more effectively. We can speak to the science because it’s complicated and we do a lot of research and we do a lot of translation of the science into what it means for people so that the decisions can be made on the basis of real science and on the basis of a real technical understanding.”

“That’s how it has worked in EPA’s career for 44 years at EPA is we’ve listened to the science and the law and we have let solutions take off in the marketplace which is where the cheapest, most effective always win,” McCarthy said. “That’s why EPA can move environmental standards forward so effectively and grow jobs at the same time.”

The EPA is on the verge of finalizing rules limiting CO2 emissions from power plants as part of President Barack Obama’s climate agenda. Republicans and industrial lobbies have opposed the rules, saying they will be costly and do nothing to stem warming.

In a message below the photograph, Mr Cameron said: "This is 1pm on Tuesday the 2nd of June on Aonach Mor and this is just ridiculous. Unprecedented, perhaps."
The rescue team has also asked if anyone can remember a longer winter season.

So, instead of stopping exhaling altogether all humans should be required to carry with them at all times a big plant to exhale on. This would square their carbon offset. And they´d get some sugar too.

I think this is an excellent suggestion.

A simple way to introduce the concept for the unwashed masses of humanity would be to require them to stop breathing for a short time every day, say thirty minutes.  Compliance would of course be required and we would have a staff of trained monitors for this job.  Would you be available?

The same procedures would be required for beef cattle, another dangerous emitter.   Using the principle of "Worst First"  we would first limit emissions to the prescribed 23.5 hours per day for the Wagu cattle herds.  While non-surviving humans would be cremated, special care would be required to prevent dangerous methane emissions from rotting dead cattle.  Therefore they would be slaughtered and the better cuts of meat cooked over only wood fires (no fossil fuels of course) and eaten.

After the Wagu, the Angus.  Saving the planet is a difficult job, but someone's got to do it.

The Sahara Desert is getting greener

A few thousand years ago, a mighty river flowed through the Sahara across what is today Sudan. The Wadi Howar—now just a dried-out riverbed for most of the year—sustained not just fish, crocodiles, and hippopotamuses, but also agriculture and human settlement. As late as 1,000 B.C., a powerful fortress stood on its shores. But then the Sahara dried out, turning from a green savannah into an inhospitable desert. The culprit: climate change. According to desert geologist Stefan Kröpelin, who has studied geological data for the eastern Sahara going back 6,000 years, the desert spread as temperatures dropped. Global cooling meant that the air had less capacity to hold moisture from the oceans, leading to fewer rains and more arid climes.

Now, that same process is happening in reverse. As temperatures rise, the Sahara and other dry areas are greening on the edges. “I’ve been studying the Sahara for 30 years and can definitely say that it’s getting greener,” says Kröpelin, who specializes in desert archaeology and climate history at the University of Cologne. Where there used to be nothing but desert, he says, there is now not just grass but shrubs and acacia trees--and he has the photos from 30 years of extensive field study to prove it. “The nomads are taking their camels to graze in areas where they’ve never been able to graze before.” Satellite data showing more green on the southern edge of the Sahara also bear him out. "There are always winners and losers if weather patterns change," he says. “But as a general rule, warmer temperatures inevitably mean that the air picks up more moisture from the oceans, which will lead to more rainfall. If you look at the geological records in the Sahara, there have been repeated periods where the Sahara was greener when temperatures were warmer than today.”

Kröpelin’s geological data seem to question the popular notion that climate change will bring negative, if not outright apocalyptic effects: A dying Amazon, failing rains, drought, and desertification. The latest IPCC report predicts a decline in rainfall across large swaths of Africa of 20 percent or more, leading to deadly famines like the one raging in Somalia now. Yes, Spendulus. Every possible measure must be taken to reduce CO2 emissions. In fact every breathing being should be required to at least reduce exhalation and preferably stop that dangerous practice altogether.

You do know, my friend, that the skeptics are the worst fiends since Dracula walked the earth.  Indeed, we must pull out all the stops to stop them, before they destroy the Earth as we know it.  Yes, it's been somewhat colder lately.   But to stop the cold, which is produced by the Global Warming, we must strive to reduce CO2 emissions, as they make the world warmer.  In other words, less CO2, and the world is colder.  So to make it warmer, we need to take urgent action now, to reduce the warming.  I know that you will understand this, while only the simple minded and ignorant would dare to suggest that to make it warmer, we would take action to make it warmer.   NO!  Of course not!  To make it less cold, we take action to make it COLDER!

Manitoba freeze damages 50 to 60 percent of canola fields

Last weekend’s cold weather has caused significant damage to canola fields across southern Manitoba, leaving many area farmers filing insurance claims and reseeding.
Seeding in the southwest region was close to complete Saturday when frost blanketed the area. Temperatures across the province dropped below zero early Saturday morning with several areas, including Brandon, recording a temperature of -4 C. Most of southwest Manitoba experienced temperatures between -1 and -3 C.

Filthy snow piles remain, even as temperatures climb

They’re unsightly, filled with garbage and debris, and serve as a daily reminder of just how awful the winter really was — and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

Lingering snow piles from the historic New England winter continue to plague municipalities in Greater Boston, even as temperatures creep toward the 90s and spring makes way for summer.

In Boston, what was once a 75-foot-high snow mound on a parcel of land on Tide Street in the Seaport District has been reduced to a three-story pile of dirt and discarded household items that remain encrusted in solid ice. But even with the beating rays from the sun, nothing seems to be powerful enough to zap away winter.

“The fact that it’s still there is a science experiment waiting to happen,” said Michael Dennehy, commissioner of the city’s Department of Public Works. Dennehy said the snow mound, which dates to January, looks more like a landfill, thanks to all of the objects left on the streets and scooped up by plows before being dumped.

Crews have been working for six weeks to clean away the trash as it breaks free from the mound. So far, they have pulled 85 tons of debris from the pile, he said.

“It’s vile,” he said. “We’re finding crazy stuff; bicycles, orange cones that people used as space savers — the funniest thing they found was half of a $5 bill. They’re looking for the other half still.”

The snow has lingered so long that crews even started a pool to guess when it will finally vanish. Dennehy is losing.

“I said by May 30, but that’s this weekend,” he said. “It’s still weeks away from melting.”

Somerville also has remnants of the winter haunting the city. Over by Assembly Row, on a state-owned piece of land, two piles of snow stand, looking more like small, ash-covered volcanoes.

“It’s like a wintertime snow pile’s evil twin. It’s dirty, and there’s a reasonable amount of trash there,” said Denise Taylor, spokeswoman for the city.
