The government will gain because these illegal or not authorized casinos didn't pay tax, instead the casinos reduce the circulation money on the market because all the profit goes to few people aka who operated the casinos.

Regardless the citizen can bypass the restriction using VPN, but at least this could reduce people exposed/gamble on illegal casinos.

But, this will be bad for "us" meaning the casino we promoted might not as much as before lol.

Are you sure that this is the case? Because you talk as if Brazil is the only place where lots of gamblers are gambling on the online casinos we are promoting, thats impossible, i don't believe that there are so many Brazilians on here compare to people from other part of the world.

Honestly, if Brazil is facing the same hardship like my country I can bet with anyone that the citizens already find their ways around, there are smart people in Brazil as well, they can just find another online casino that's based in a far distance and use VPN to keep gambling.

The only way the government can keep this under control is putting an end to all internet connections in the country or getting rid of computers and smartphones in the country, north Korea did it so Brazil can be the second on the list, if not, gamblers will still keep gambling in the country.

Rio de Janeiro (AFP) – Brazilian authorities on Friday began closing down more than 2,000 betting sites, including those that sponsors popular football team Corinthians and other first division clubs, as part of a push to regulate online gambling.

What do you guys think, is it the right step? What will the government lose or gain? What will the citizens lose? Will the closed websites cooperate? Many might want to take their business elsewhere as they like to operate where the regulations are weak.

Do you think Brazilians would cooperate with the government? Some may think of VPNs to bypass the government's restrictions, but this might put them into trouble with casinos. I wonder how many of them know this.

It takes a bold step to do this and it looks like some countries are now waking up. Regulation is important in the gambling sector, it's better not to have gambling outlets at all than to have them do as they like without proper accountability and even pocket all the money without giving the government what is due to them. As for the government, the tax due is not justified if not used properly, sensitises/educates the people about gambling and protects the rights of the citizens/residents.

I love it when I read this, which shows the government's seriousness in collaboration with licensed casinos/sportsbooks.
I did not understand that they had such a number of gambling sites. Now I am thinking of how many gambling sites they still have that they have not restricted. I also wonder why they banned those sites and why they have not blocked other sites.

From the article in the reference, the government intends to use these restrictions to fight fraud and money laundering. They claim they intend to fight underaged gambling and protect its citizens from fraudulent gambling platforms. This is the right step that will help the country combat crime and citizens' rights.
The Brazilian government do not like how most Brazilians have become gamblers is what I see more to this but some gambling sites are still allowed in the country. I do not like to see money laundering and fraud to be referred to when talking about gambling sites. Bad money are in banks and owned by well respected people in the society. Most laundered money can not be linked to someone unless the source is traced to the person.
A popular proverb says "If you want to kill a dog, you start by giving it a bad name." We all know that most governments are corrupt and will always cover their shady dealing in conventional financial institutions. But they will also come up with reasons to go against other non-government institutions. We are not aware of the hidden reason why these restrictions have been put in place, but from what they have said, the move is worth it.

Maybe, one good reason is the crackdown of illegal sites, and thus, that would be in favour of their gamblers. To eradicate scam and fraudulent sites. As we can see, there are so many scam sites in gambling because the regulation is poor in some countries. Hence, the move of Brazil is quite useful to their citizens as they are just taking precautions of using fraudulent sites.

As we can see below news, they are still allowing about 200 sites to operate, which means, they are only removing potential scam sites, which is actually good for their online gamblers. The removed sites will now have the chance to redeem themselves by following the protocols of their government, which is actually beneficial for their gamblers.

Well, actually there is nothing new about the case of Brazil. The first step towards regulations is getting rid of those who are willingly violating the new terms of regulators, those who wish to participate in the new market conditions need to get their proper license.
In the long term this is going to become a win for the Brazilian economy, depending how well regulators manage to equilibrate access to service, while not stepping down the volume of gamblers this industry has in their country.
I have not followed what the instances of the government of Lula are with comes to cryptocurrency, but as a rule of thumb most left leaders tend to frown upon adoption of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, because of the lack of centralized control.

If thing go as they have planned, most of those unlicensed casinos will pay for their new licenses and will continue to offer their services, instead of going underground.

The government might lose tax and many Brazilians might suffer from job losses. Sports teams that receive financing from these casinos might have to seek alternative financing. But it will also allow approved casinos to explore the Brazilian gambling market and attract more customers.

It will be very difficult to enforce these laws because several technological tools can aid gamblers invade these restrictions. Some law-abiding citizens will prefer to use approved gambling platforms since they enjoy government backing.

What they did was simply close access to gambling sites that they considered "illegal" because they did not register their services with the government as they had been told to do previously. So what the Brazilian government did was not wrong, because they only wanted to regulate the casinos that were registered with them, outside of that people can still access them using a VPN. And again there are still 200 legal gambling sites that can still be accessed by Brazilians freely, so they are still given the option to move services to those sites or use a VPN.

I don't think it's a big problem as long as casinos can still freely get the required license and then operate as usual. And then since there are regulations in place, users should expect more benefits like rehabilitation for problem gamblers, a more secure platform, etc. The problem is if the government just bans quality casinos and is in bed with a few platforms to monopolize/create cartels, then it's bad for users.

Instead of working to educate people, to improve the lives of all people... they just impose more control. I really doubt that what they are imposing will save anyone... just as the war on drugs that has been going on for +50 years has done nothing. There's just a lot more drugs... draw your own conclusions.
Yep, ended with corruption and cartels...

But if it's done right, maybe it can become like in the US/EU...

In as much as I agreed with you on the aspect of the government always wanting to know the in and out of their citizens, both on a financial and social level, I also see another sense in trying to protect their citizens, based on the statement I will quote below: out of the data they claim to have collected from the survey, it shows that more than 10% of the countries population have lost more than they can afford, and it's extremely affecting their economy.

Players must also be able to self-exclude and operators will inform players of the risks of addiction upon registration.
Dudena said of the regulations: “We imposed specific rules on all those agents who wanted to come and work in Brazil to know their bettors, to monitor their bettors, to impose alerts in cases of gambling abuse, to impose time restrictions and, ultimately, to create blocks for these bettors.”

Can we trust those surveys? As I said, and especially in corrupt countries, the government will do whatever it takes to push what suits them. They don't care about people, especially not about gamblers and addicts of all kinds.

So they will impose all those regulations to follow everyone... but what you don't see is that someone who decides to gamble will do it anyway, as any drug addict will take drugs no matter how illegal the drugs are. So if not in a legal and regulated place, new black markets will emerge...
I will just share it once again:

Instead of working to educate people, to improve the lives of all people... they just impose more control. I really doubt that what they are imposing will save anyone... just as the war on drugs that has been going on for +50 years has done nothing. This could be for the interest of its citizens probably because they would have noticed that there was a problem and a menace that arise from the gambling industry and theis could be a regulatory step because I believe this wouldn't be all that is with the gambling industry in Brazil.

Anyways this doesn't mean those sites will be completely out of business, they could shift their base off Brazil or maybe adjust ro the new regulations if there be any of which that's the best they can do if they must continue in business but for the Gamblers it's going to be a hard hit on them as they will need to make some very rapid adjustments to be able to fit in, it's usually not easy stopping a gambling habit, and now they are been forced to do it all at once, it's going to be a really hard one for them.

nothing serious has happened in essence, as stated in the article since 2018 there have been no restrictions and rules, anyone could set as many as they wanted. There will be no ban on games, but only regulation to bring the industry into order. If every ninth resident of the country participates in gambling, regulation is inevitable, as for me, this was an obvious step.
Then, it is something serious that have been developed recently. You see that there have been no bans on games and online gambling there but then, with the new reign of new leader 2000 more or less casino gambling sites have been closed. Isn't that something serious for the gambling industry? I don't think that there's something to do things in order for their government because there's a recent news about Brazil that their government also have banned X, Elon Musk's social media platform the former Twitter. So, there's something really within about machineries and things that are operating online that their government doesn't like.

This is already propaganda... we do it all to protect the players. They don't really care about the players, they want to regulate the market so that they collect as much money as possible from it. I don't see anything wrong with that, but I don't like it when states do it... we are going to put cameras everywhere for your protection, we want to know what everyone is doing for your protection...

It's an issue of ensuring that only gambling platforms that are ready to operate under the regulation of the government rules would be allowed to operate in the region while the rest that fails to comply would have to face being banned. As a government, it's good that you sometimes show that you have the power to make certain decisions or else most of these companies will continue to operate without putting the right measures in place that will be favourable for the gambling citizens and some wouldn't even dim it fit to remit the dues that's supposed to go into the purse of the nation.

The case they pointed out as reasons why the ban is necessary are valid and any responsible country that takes the welfare of her citizens seriously will equally do same. Another issue is that with the use of VPN, it's going to be easy for them to bypass such restrictions and still go on to gamble on these platforms as long as it's thier favourite gambling sites.

Something similar happens here in Italy 10-15 years ago.
Personally, Ithink this as a big defeat and a great disaster. At least here, with the fake promo "avoid un-licensed bookmakers" or "they don't pay taxes", they create a monopole with just few actors that provide the worst odds on the market, avoid to launch global options (like exchange games), avoid new entities starts to play and many many other issues.
Of course I can't know the specific situation in brazil but generally this is not a good option for all (healthy) parties involved...

The government of Brazil have seen the high level of ambling in the country by citizens and feel it is high time for them to start making money from the casino by making sure that any casino that wants license of operation should come to them. However, since they want to regulate the casinos, it is a good idea, and I hope that it will not only be all about their benefits alone but let the government should also monitor the casinos to make sure that they comply with regulations.

But with the use of VPN, it is for sure that many will still be able to gain access.
Using VPN means that you will only be gambling in the casino, but you will not be able to withdraw if Brazil is restricted by the casino. Meaning that they should be careful to read ToS of any casino they want to gamble on with VPN.

The new rules seek to combat fraud and money laundering and protect users, by for example, banning minors from betting.
this is right because there is a data that says the numbers of gamblers are alarming and they want to implement orderliness, when the government does this they mean business and they always win.

This is a government implementing their own rules, so they have no choice but to take heed and follow what the government is implementing. Failure to do so by a citizen will result in a fine or worse, jail term, Gamblers in Brazil can decide for themselves if they want to use VPN, its gambling on their risks, with this new implementation and they should know the consequences.

The Brazilian people are the biggest gamblers in the world, spending around 4 billion dollars a month on bets, so the Brazilian government saw this as a good opportunity to collect more taxes, making casinos regulate themselves and have authorization to operate in Brazil. I believe that all good casinos will have to adapt, but amateur casinos will have some kind of problem. It is a global trend for casinos to comply with the rules established by governments, and this is what will happen sooner or later in all countries.

I am not Brazilian, but since I am Mozambican and speak Portuguese, I have been following the news from Brazil and from what I am seeing, Brazilian laws are moving in the direction where international websites must have a physical office in Brazil. I have come to this conclusion because of the recent closure of Twitter in Brazil. The president of the Supreme Court ordered Twitter to be closed because it had not obeyed the law that it must have a physical office in Brazil, and Twitter had closed its physical office and no longer had a representative in Brazil. I believe this is a path that in the future will require international betting houses to have a physical office in Brazil and have a legal representative in Brazil. This would mean that Brazilian citizens would no longer be able to use casinos that operate without complying with these conditions. So in my opinion this is all heading towards very strict laws that most casinos licensed in Curacao will not comply with.
