My version 2 of this miner has arrived and is now hashing.

Compared to the experiences shared here, they have definitely changed the way the voltage is read in the new ones. Actually, I do not trust the new reading in the UI at all. For one, it is all over the place. I started the miner up with my supply set at 11.7V at the multimeter and immediately was getting 12.5V in the GUI Shocked

!! That freightened me for a minute but then it went down to 11.9V in the UI on its own (no change on the multimeter). I gradually brought the supply up to 12.15V on the multimeter where it began reading 12.2V in the UI again. Since then the UI has been swinging all over the place from 12.0V to 12.3V. I really hope I have mine set right, but I'm not very confident in it.

I'm not certain yet, but it appears that when the fan RPM goes up the voltage reads lower in the UI.

For my own sanity check, what hash rate should I expect on a version 2 at 12.2V?

Yeah... I was just curious. I might play around with it, since I've got a spare Pi that I use to run cgminer for my U2 sticks. While the web GUI is nice, I really don't care about it. I can get all the info I need just looking at the output from cgminer

not sure but you can try it and see.

you got 2 rasp pi's today with the 6.1 software.

and if you have a different card your could try it to compare.

What benefit (besides the web front end) does using the pre-built SD Card image offer? I mean, if I've already got a Pi with cgminer that has enabled avalon support, couldn't I just plug the avalon into it and fire it up?

I'm just making sure that is accurate and they are not popping even at 12.2V in the UI. It is scary how little headroom there is between the spec and where these fail. My plan is to bring mine up to 12.2V in the UI and then back it down just a tad (high end of 12.1-- and only under very controlled climate conditions) unless I start seeing reports of failures within the 12.2V spec. They really are a good machine I would not let the few over volting get your attention to much. Just stay under the 12.2 as said on BlockC's sales site and you should be good as far as over volting.

For the most part these miners are out there working great. But if you over volt past recommended... turn it down.

Well, after awhile of testing the reverse fan flow, to me it wasn't to my satisfaction, it did keep the temps of the 2nd number and 3rd number lower, but the fan ramp up is too sudden (My main goal is steady noise). Since the fan is flowing reverse and into the ambient temperature sensor causing the 1st number to be higher, it ramps up the fan fast at high RPM to try to lower down the temperatures since it detects the ambient temperature being high when it isn't. As a solution to this, i tried to figure out a way to place the fan on the opposite side so where it pushes air instead of pulling air normally, but the PCIe connections were in the way so couldn't test it out and just let it be and settle for original stock setting.

On a side note, I did multiple testings of the raspberry pi 1 firmware, and from my testing, it seems like the raspberry firmware from 20151111 hashes 100-200 GHS more than the more recent versions. Anyone else noticed the same or is it just me?

In my case the psu was 12.73 volts = wrong 12.4 or 12.5 is okay

The gui was 12.5 = wrong 12.2 is okay

the temp in the room was 92f = close to wrong as max is 95f

This was my older unit. I ran it Nov 24 to Jan 14 give or take a few days
My other older unit is okay.

Nice Review, Thanks man. I still haven't yet tried any miners from Avalon. I'm planning to try them in the future, but I guess, I need to see their prices a little bit competitive with Bitmain.

I have not pushed mine at all on over volting and don't plan on doing it. Those who have been doing it.... really think about it as it can kill your investment.

Yeah I did fry 1 Avalon 6 by over volting so not messing with that too much anymore. However, a Little off topic, but since I am short 1 Avalon 6, I do have extra Power Supplies that I can sell to forum members at a good discount.

They are as follow :
2 x Dell 750W PSU with breakout boards and cables

You have to put "#xnsub" at the end of pool name. If u done it and it still doesn't work, cgminer on Avalon 6 needs to be recompiled and reinstalled.

Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on what I need to do in order to get the extra nonce subscription to work on my Avalon 6's? Is there a setting I am missing?

I cannot seem to get it to work on Nice Hash.

NiceHash has been very good recently for "Better than the going rate". I leave all my miners set to go there when the rate is high. Need every little bit of help you can get these Days, have had as high as .01BTC/TH/Day

well some good news first the replacement hash board arrives tomorrow.

and now the bad news that same unit running 1 board has stopped registering fan speeds.

and of course as a safety to not over heat the unit won't hash.

the fan speed says 0 and the fan is running full speed.

so I will now need a daughter board as it seems the fan speed detection no longer works.

So once again over-volting can cause your gear to fry.

~~I will have to contact Yan and get a replacement daughter board.~~

I found a reset button on the daughter board and I am now hashing with the one board.

The replacement comes tomorrow so things are looking up.

@philipma1957 Regarding the burnt cap, that might be a gray area, because we can't really tell if it was due to heat or over-volting or maybe both, just too much variables. Maybe blockc can do a testing just for good faith, have 1 miner over volted to 12.8 and have another miner run at constant 75-80 degrees at 12.2 volts and see which one dies first.

I would test this myself, but I don't have the funds to spare for the Avalon 6's to test =P

There is really not much reason to ask them to run it. On over volt you should be within :12V DC ±0.2V . If you are not warranty is void, so I don't see them supporting over volt to that point. 75-80 should not be a issue it is within Working Environment: 0C to 35C.

How you mention you don't have funds to spare for Avalon 6 test, I would strongly suggest you don't try things like switching fan orientation. It chances are voids warranty under: Equipment Tampering And Disassembly.

Thanks for the inputs, but then there won't be any fun of owning one. Or I would of just rent hashes instead. I'm the kind of person that likes to play around with stuff =) even if it voids warranty, makes it more exciting =).

No I can understand I like getting miners and hosting them myself as I can play with them. I enjoy the tinkering with them.

I was just mentioning it as you said you could not spare funds to test Avalon 6... when in reality switching fan's you are testing
