Not that rich people don't care about their looks. I guess it's just that they aren't concerned about their looks all the time, unless they make a living from their personal image. Rich individuals are usually pretty busy, so they will naturally tend to go through the simplest way to wear themselves to save time and get more comfortable. Meanwhile, someone who is constantly concerned about his looks will have a hard time thriving, because he spends too much money on worthless things, besides not having enough focus and attention on matters which can help him making more money...
Every rich person has a different appearance of clothing and some rich people do not care too much about the luxury of their appearance, but relatively they show off luxury because their finances support them to buy any luxury goods, such as a collection of luxury watches, cars and others, they can buy whatever they want even though they look like they are wearing simple clothes but the price of classic clothes is more expensive than others. However, the use of clothing in business must be maximized for consumer assessment, because business is part of a service and anyone must wear clothes according to the rules, especially rich people as business bosses must wear luxury clothes in various business activities, except when they are on vacation or outside office hours.

Well said mate, people who make money or are business oriented doesn't care much about their looks and appearance because of their numerous busy schedules, they can even be in the boutique to buy some clothes and receive a call about a business proposal they will just discard buying the clothes to attend to business. This reminds me of my life when I didn't have a job, I was literally having time for worthless things that doesn't add value to my life and I think about what to eat and clothes to wear all the time but immediately i got a job it made me become so occupied as I don't even have the time to wear clothes again even when I have a lot in my wardrobe as most of the time am always with my working coveralls and safety boots so definitely people who thinks much about what to wear or eat are literally people that doesn't have something judicious they engage their time with but for those who have productive things they do with their time they don't care much about material things anymore but rather on things that will bring proceeds for them.
On the moment that you do have that kind of perception towards life or simply with your lifestyle on which if you do have that sufficient time on minding things then you would might end up into those conditions that you would really be focusing in regarding about your looks or on what you do wear or getting involved into something which isnt important. Sometimes we would really be putting ourselves to get derailed just because on what you do see around. People do really easily get influenced into things plus having that kind of behavior or part of personality which would justify those kind of acts then its no surprise that people will really be that different when it comes into their personal approach on things. Its true that once you do make yourself get busy then you cant think off well about these stuffs since you would be focusing into the things that you are currently dealing with.

Somehow there would really be still those people who cant just forget to make priorities about on how they do look. They do want or like for other people to praise or respect them up.
We do know that once they do know that you are rich or looking rich then you would really be getting that kind of respect or having that good approach or treatment and this is where
other people do really think or focus about.

Not all rich wear inexpensive outfits as some prefer to buy those luxurious things because they can afford. Same with poor ones, not all of them are trying to act like they're rich, because it would be a waste of money only when they all know they don't have that much money to spend on wants as they even struggle to provide their basic needs.

I guess it's all about the mindset of individuals who try to pretend rich even when they're not able to, while those real rich don't want to prove to other people that they all have the means, they prefer a simple life instead and not even minding wearing cheap brands.

Perceptions of the relationship between wealth and lifestyle are often based on societal stereotypes and what people think they see. For example, it is widely considered that a wealthy individual always dons luxury items. In this case, one of the ways poor people could, in turn, look richer would be to copy this lifestyle. In reality, things are a lot more complicated.

Frugality for some wealthy people may not be out of economic inability to purchase expensive wares, but it is a choice to live consciously by putting energy into what they find important in life, such as experiences or relationships or long-term investments. It might be the stage of life wherein people are not interested to prove their wealth to others.

There are people, however, who may feel the social pressure of having to look wealthy even when they are not. This may be part of an attempt to belong in a given society or meet certain anticipations which they believe will make them look more prosperous.

It's not every rich person that dress so simple as the image has shown and it's not also all poor people that dresses all good to impress others. Some poor people are still contented with what they have while some rich people too will dress very nice and wealthy all the time. All of those things depends on personal interest, although I can not deny the fact that some poor people like to show off but some of the materials that they use to show off might not even be their own. There what is called "borrow-pose", showing off what what does not belong to them.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

This is a flawed philosophy! Take any Hollywood or Bollywood celebrities for example. They are ultra rich and their clothes and Jewelries are all expensive. Those are so expensive that no poor person can afford those. At the same time, as depicted in the picture, a poor person can't afford to spend 10 grand on clothing. So don't loose your sleep over such things!

There are many ultra rich people, like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates or Warren Buffet, who doesn't wear designer clothing. It's because their focus is not to look rich and expensive. They are focused on their work and doesn't want to spend time on such things which doesn't add value to their life. This is a mindset of a handful of people in the world.

Even as a common people, not everyone likes to buy designer clothing. So the depiction is wrong and doesn't speak for the majority of the population. However, it closely matches with a culture called "Sapology" which is very famous in Congo and some African countries. Try searching Youtube and you will know why I am referring to this.

As I was scrolling through my Facebook I saw this photo and how the image discribes the poor to be a kind of people that wears expensive thing to impress people to look like the rich, and the other way round, the rich appears to be simple probably not to be noticed as a rich person. My question now is that,

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

Well I will not totally agree that the poor are the only ones that normally dress that way because I have seen so many rich people who always buy expensive things especially clothes to show to everyone that they have all the money and I have also seen how a rich man intimated a poor guy even when he was at fault because he believes that the poor guy does not have anything to challenge him, so actually is not all the poor that dress that way and at the same time not also all the rich that also show themselves to people about the wealth they have, so the little I understand about those poor people who always disguise themselves to be rich is only if they are trying to belong to a kind of rich group or trying to impress someone that's when they will likely dress that way, however I don't even consider wearing clothes as a measure of rich because not everybody that loves fancy clothes.

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
Maybe we can see from the way that expensive clothes are considered rich people then I say no, because the things they have are tastes even though they are not rich people.

Rich people buy expensive branded goods and other goods - there are poor people who buy expensive goods say it is imposing then there are always people who buy expensive goods.
Poor people who buy expensive goods say that it imposes then there are always people like that, it is even difficult to compare it.

The important thing is that our own style is in accordance with its capabilities or not? If YES then go ahead it doesn't matter does it.
Usually rich people are always busy and never attach importance to items that are not too important.

I once read a study in the book The Millionaire Next Door that rich people don't just spend money. They value money more by increasing assets and living below their means. That's why rich people usually look simple in their appearance because they prefer to buy assets. While poor people prefer to buy luxury goods without thinking about assets.

But that doesn't mean rich people don't wear luxury goods because they will definitely wear luxury goods but they are wiser in wearing them. But wearing luxury goods doesn't mean that the person is really rich. Because in my opinion the meaning of rich is not what is shown or exhibited, but from financial freedom.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
The image above speaks a lot of the two classes but in the wrong way, it should therefore be disregarded. Fine, there are poor people trying who live beyond their means and there are rich people who are down-to-earth and like cheap things but prefer to help people with their riches. At the same time, it's not particularly true because poverty will always reflect in the lives of the poor and riches will always reflect in the lives of the rich no matter how they try to cover it.

But the distinction here is that some poor people overdo things, for instance, they might have $300 as their entire savings, but they might use it all on expensive items, not on investment and plans for a better future or "cut their clothes and to the clothe". I know some people who would go for the best phones but will be begging people for the internet subscription money, is that not insane?

In reality, wealth and lifestyle choices vary greatly. Some wealthy individuals enjoy and can afford luxury, while others prefer to live modestly, either out of personal preference or for other reasons like privacy. On the other hand, people with less wealth might save up for luxury items as a way of expressing themselves or because they value certain brands or styles.

It's not just about what you wear, but how you manage your resources and what your priorities are. Wealth doesn’t have to be shown off, and it doesn’t always look the same. Whether you’re rich or not, the most important thing is to live within your means and make choices that reflect your values.

the choice to wear expensive cloths is all about preference and what the person in question does as well as the kind of people he relates with. A typical rich person in the financial sectors let's take for instance the banking sector wouldn't spend extravagantly just because he has made some millions of dollar. Another dude who is in the same class with him but is into the entertainment industry will most times prefer showing off and buying expensive jewelries because that's what people that are in the same industry with him do. Even when you're considering the case of a poor man, it's only those that got thier wealth through dubious means that spends it extravagantly on things that's not adding value to them. Those that struggled before becoming wealthy knows better than spending thier money on things that isn't relevant.

Apart from this outlined case of being reckless with what one buys, buying quality item is not a bad thing. There are people that just like to get the best of wears for themselves. As long as it's not above what there money can carry, choosing to get good wears for yourself is not bad.

Is wearing expensive clothes, shoes, and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich don't wear expensive things or don't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

The picture that you showed us is misleading. A poor guy cannot buy expensive clotching If you are an average income earner, how can you buy clotches worth thousands of dollars? those who can show off or buy new expensive and branded clotching are those who can afford these and these are rich people.

If you see rich people wearing modest clothes, that's because its in their character and belief in simplicity, but in reality they are the ones who can buy expensive clotching and signature dresses, When you say poor, that is having a hard time meeting their daily needs, so if you're poor, I don't think you will prioritize expensive clotches over paying your bills.

Yes it is true that real rich people are a brand themselves so they never have to prove themselves rich by using extravagant things. But those who are poor always want to use expensive things to prove themselves valuable to others.  And because of misuse of these money they always remain poor. But they always blame their fate because of their poor condition. But they never want to accept their folds. To make yourself truly rich, you should always reduce the wastage of money and invest it in better places through money management. But those who waste money can never become really rich.

It's about social status... Sometimes they just want to look fancy even though they're poor... Whereas rich people want to look simple because they don't want to show off their wealth in their fashion.
I still see a lot of people with little income but high social status because they want to look cool among their friends or associates, they will not think about finances, the important thing is to be stylish like the rich.
Rich people will definitely wear simple clothes because according to that it is more than enough, they only think about how their business continues to grow, and this is one of the differences between rich people and poor people.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
It's Decade old image.

And if they're poor they can't afford to buy that in the first place, they are trying to pretend rich when they are not and it's also a sign where they spend their money is not gonna do any good for them in terms of financially.

There's a famous saying,"Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover" that fits well to what we're discussing here. We can't really identify the rich or poor based on the appearance but I know why most businesses don't wear fancy clothes is because they don't want to waste their time on something useless that's said by Zuckerberg when someone asked the same question to him.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
The picture is just explaining the perception of some people. It is not all the poor who want to look rich because many of them cannot afford it. The poor who want to look good are suffering from poor self-esteem or an inferiority complex.

Steve Jobs's popular dress code.

Steve Job's assets

This is a very wrong perception. Wearing an expensive outfit is not a sign of poverty. Other rich people want to always look flamboyant, while others want to look simple. It is just a personal choice. Some rich people pay attention to luxury cars, houses, yachts, or even jets but care less about their clothing.

In the context of this photo you posted, it's just obvious that the poor guy just wants to appear rich, while the rich guy wants to appear simple without too much attention on him. However in a real life situation that is outside the context of this photo, rich people are the ones that are endowed into luxury, from the beautiful gardens in the castle they live as houses, to the kind of cars they drive, to scent of their environs are all in luxury.

There are rich and influential people that sometimes wants to appear simple by wearing simple clothes in the public, whereas there are also some rich persons that do come out to the public appearing very rich based on what they are wearing and the kind of car they are driving, it's just individual differences. So in answering your question OP, your physical appearance and how you look does not always represent how rich you are.
