As I was scrolling through my Facebook I saw this photo and how the image discribes the poor to be a kind of people that wears expensive thing to impress people to look like the rich, and the other way round, the rich appears to be simple probably not to be noticed as a rich person. My question now is that,

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
Well I really don't see this as something that defines a rich dude and a poor dude, because I know for a fact that people are quite different, not everyone knows how to show off even though they have everything life have to offer, some people prefer showing off with the little they have even though they have nothing, so in my own opinion appearance doesn't define a rich person or a poor person, even though in our society today, you will mostly be addressed by how you dress, that's just the reality of today's society.

But the easiest way to differentiate a rich dude and a poor dude is where they are staying, because I believe that a poor man can't afford the kind of luxurious houses or mansion the rich lives in, and most of these luxurious plaza, it's the rich that mostly Petronise them, so it's the rich that lives in real luxury, because am quite certain that a poor man can only look rich by what he is putting on, but in reality they just want to feel among, but when it comes to who is actually wearing expensive things, and who is actually living in luxury, it's the rich not the poor.

It is true that the way a person looks does not determine the wealth that a person has and it is not uncommon for us to see people who have more wealth, they look ordinary and also those who have an average income choose to look luxurious in order to look rich in the eyes of others and I agree with you that we cannot judge a person's wealth by their appearance.
If we look at the residence of the rich, of course, it will be very different from those who can only afford to look rich and even not uncommon we see those who choose to look rich still do not have their own house and still have to rent a house because the income they have will be greater spent on their appearance so they cannot afford to have a private house.

Poor people dress like how they think rich people dress. Poor people do not have a lot of expensive clothing and luxury items so once they have at least once they will bring it with them everywhere and show it off as much as they can.

While rich people, and I mean the richest ones, are more quiet and classy about their clothes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still very expensive but it doesn’t look cheap and tacky. Most likely the brands they wear are so expensive that most people have not even heard of it which is why probably people think the rich are not wearing something expensive. Rich people are not buying cheap clothes. They are just not showing off their wealth because they don’t need to be validated.

If you ask, who spends more money on luxury goods, is it the poor or the rich? The answer is clear that the rich spend the most money on luxury goods, because if you think logically, how can a poor person spend more money on luxury goods. Here we will not discuss people who look rich for the sake of being considered rich, because from your picture it is just a metaphor, and in real life it is not like that. Okay, rich people look simpler, but are people who buy 2.5k USD pants poor people? both can be categorized as rich, but to a different extent - that's why there are terms fake rich, crazy rich, and real rich.

I agree with your opinion, many rich people wear luxury and branded goods, because they can afford it and it has become their daily need, by wearing luxury goods it is a pattern for them to enjoy the results of their hard work so that the goods They are used to buying and using luxury goods.

Poor people will not buy expensive things because they know their daily needs are more important than buying luxury goods that are expensive, why would they buy luxury and expensive goods when it is difficult to even eat every day, they still prioritize their daily needs and the rest they save for their survival.
If you are included on the poor side or status then its impossible that you wont getting jealous into those people who do able to reach out the pinnacle of success or simply getting rich on which they could buy all the things that they do want. If  you are someone who do really that get contented on what you do have then you would really be staying up on being poor but if you are someone who do have wish and goals then you would really be definitely be finding up things that could make yourself that better in terms of financial status, as long you are really that reaching out those things on legal means then this is something commended. Somehow there would really be those individuals who would really be liking to go into the opposite side of things on which they will really be that going into illegal approach on which this is really that a shit option and a dangerous ones.

Spending up on luxury things isnt bad as long you do aware into your priorities and never ever make yourself be neglecting on your responsibilities. Somehow it would be easy to say for those who are rich but not simple
into those who are on the poor side. If you do look yourself into the side on which you dont have much money then better set your priorities straight and neglect out those wishes and liking on buying on things or something which isnt your priority. The main issue for most people is that they do really that become that too irresponsible into the actions that they are taking and wont minding about the after effects that it would be giving out. They would really be that starting on being mindful on the time that they are experiencing shit conditions.

It would be naive to look at appearances and assume that Elon is a wealthy man who lives a simple life. First: dressing too formally when meeting customers will sometimes create a clear gap between rich and poor, and make cooperation not go smoothly. Second: He intentionally dresses simply because he wants to create a friendly, intimate atmosphere so that everything goes well. Meanwhile, others dressed elegantly and luxuriously because they wanted to give the world's richest billionaire the utmost respect.

@Raflesia, I remember Tim Cook once visited my country, he dressed casually and experienced our cheap street food. But did you know that he stayed overnight at the only 6-star hotel in my country that costs up to $80k/day ? LOL .

Do you really think he has paid $80k/night ? I think that hotel gave him a huge discount, because "Tim Cook stayed in our hotel" advertisement cost most than $80k/night. I would even let him stay there for free, because that will be a huge hotel image benefit and would pays off in future. I think that there were not many people who wished to stay in that $80k/night room anyway.

We can debate a lot, who spends more on luxury, but I would still go with rich people. That picture on first post is only a hip of the iceberg. The fact that rich person dresses simple does not mean he did not have luxury and expensive things. Rich people just dont display their wealth on purpose, while poor in luxury items just wants to fool everyone around.

Why don't you think the other way around: hotel that are confident in their quality should be chosen by celebrities like Tim Cook? Their business has been around for years based on the reputation and quality they bring to their customers, and that is what makes their reputation . So why would they reward someone just for choosing their service? They don't even care who he is because their job is to serve people who can afford their services.  The best deal they can give Tim Cook is the best experience .

This is one of the top hotels in my country and the best choice for super rich travelers . If customers do not choose them, it is because customers do not have enough money , they do not expect the presence of celebrities to serve for free because they are doing business based on quality and reputation . They are a business, not a charity for the rich .

I agree that there will be poor people who like luxury and ostentation ,  and there will also be rich people who like simplicity but it all depends on the individual . We shouldn't judge everyone the same just based on a meme on social media .

Because even if the hotel do its best, if Cook receive such service for free, it will be an extra plus if he makes a review or gives a recommendation. If I was in charge of that hotel, I would won charge Cook anything, but later would used his stay and image for promotion. I think it will help to create a story and situation, when other travelers would want to visit that room and try Cook experience, no matter what the price is.

Anyway, it can be clearly said who spends more, because we are all different. Someone wants to display luxury, someone is modest. Someone wants to fake luxury life, others feel great of ascetism. It can be said, that poor people wish to repeat rich peoples image, try to get sick from their success. But that does not mean they really spend more.

Haha, I see a lot of changes here. As far as I can tell by myself, I am a child of a middle class family. That's why I spend money thoughtfully. But it depends as much as to say what kind of state he lives in and what the price of everything can be. Let's say you live in a country where everything is very cheap. Your expenses will decrease a lot but you spend based on your mindset.

So many times it is seen that a rich person spends very less and a middle class person spends a lot because he has a high spending mindset.
Changes? Why? I think you mean to say differences, also it doesn't always mean that we are spending money thoughtfully only because we are on the middle class but it only depends on the individual. There is no middle class mentioned in the OP but there are still people on that bracket who can spend recklessly. And, it doesn't depend on other factors that you mentioned there. Even though we are living on a cheap country, there will still be people who will value their money more, and then there are still people who will try hard only to spend more in an expensive country.

Like I always spend a little more because I like to spend money and I'm not a spender.
Huh? This is so confusing, lol. I think there must always be a reason on why we can spend more.

It would be safer to say some poor people want to look rich, so they buy clothing they cannot afford. It is common to see people you know are struggling financially to show on social media to just claim who they are not. But this is not the case for all poor people because many of them don't give a damn about flaunting wealth. The rich can afford luxury, so they wouldn't care about showing off expensive items. They see luxury as a way of life, so there is no need to draw attention. But I find it abnormal to distinguish between the behaviour of the rich and poor with physical appearance.
One thing about the rich is that they don't even care about their look and how people see them , so looking very expensive is not a problem for them because they already have the money,  all what they about is how they can make more wealth. The poor people thinks they can always get into people by looking expensive by spending much money on their looks. Since they don't have the money to make rich friends they feel looking rich can attract rich friends, give them the connection they want.

Wearing expensive cloths means nothing to the rich man but I think their is an advantage why a poor man should look good by appearance it is one of the way to get attracted to people who are better financially and this can be of good benefit to gain value.

The style and choice of clothing is not always associated with a person’s desire to show his status or success, there are people for whom it does not matter, but at the same time they can be quite wealthy. If people hold a lot of negotiations and they need to look good, then they will take care of it even if they spend on clothes which they don't need in their daily lives. That is, this does not apply to all the rich and the poor, it rather depends on the needs of a person and on his attitude to this.

I think it depends on how rich and how poor they are. But the point is that most people who we consider rich, clearly do not spend more of their money than those who are less rich and those who are poor. Because there are also poor people who do not care about lifestyle and prioritize basic needs or other important needs so that they still feel safe in everything. Rich people have the ability to buy anything they want but all of that needs to be considered except for their children who can only spend their parents' money, and if there are poor people who only care about lifestyle and spend their money because of prestige, that is very dangerous. And both can be positive and negative depending on who they are.

Poor people often spend money on luxuries they can't afford, maintain, or take care of, just to show off. They prioritize appearances over practicality. On the other hand, rich people spend more on luxury, but they don't feel the need to show off. Some wealthy individuals can spend millions without flaunting it because they're not trying to prove anything. Even if the poor and rich don't identify themselves, their spending habits and attitudes towards luxury often reveal their economic status. My conclusion is that rich people spend more on luxury, but they don't necessarily feel the need to show off.

You can never personally guarantee who lives a more luxurious life between the rich and the poor. Many rich people have money but live a simple life and many poor people have no money but prefer to live a luxurious life. That is, whether rich or poor, those who have the mindset to live a luxurious life will only live a luxurious life.
Yes that's right. Every person living in the world has different tastes and therefore different people's lifestyles. Between the rich and the poor, I think the rich live a luxurious life, and even wear the most expensive clothes which may not be possible for the poor.

We have seen a lot of rich people who don't think they have a lot of money by looking at their clothes, but on closer inspection it turns out that the clothes they are wearing are from the band, i.e. they are expensive. Basically, by looking at the color of their clothes, there is no way to understand that they are very expensive. Moreover, the vehicles used for transportation are expensive. Moreover, rich people never wear expensive clothes to show off but there are many poor people who wear expensive clothes to show themselves as rich people.

My question now is that, Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

No the rich do also wear expensive things but they don't wear them to show off. The poor wear expensive things that they can't afford to show off to other poor people. When the rich are flexing their wealth, it is for their other rich friends and they want to belong to a group or something like that. The poor man will use all his savings to buy expensive things and go broke but the rich are buying the quality that the item represents and not the looks. You can see a rich man wearing a Gucci shirt but it won't be those flashy ones with all the colours of the rainbow. They'll wear a quality Gucci shirt that they can own for years and yet it won't have lost its quality but the poor man will wear a Gucci shirt made for the poor to look rich. The shirt isn't made from quality but to look expensive and it won't last. The poor man will have to be changing his shirt regularly and spend more money too.
The rich wear expensive clothes and live in expensive houses that the poor cannot afford. This illustration is for people like you who feel wearing good clothes that are expensive while being poor means you are imitating the rich. To become rich starts from the mindset, once you are rich in the brain you start doing things that will push you to that richness physically. The mindset has to be operating in the level which the rich people operate. To someone who is rich they dont see some amount of money as anything that is why they do not want to settle for less. The rich take greater risks why the poor are afraid to lose the little they have. If you are to mention what the rich are doing compared to the poor then you should completely list all of them and you will find on that the rich spend more than the poor.

Funny enough to the poor spending 100$ on shoes and 400$ on outfits seems to be rich. The rich would spend 500 thousand dollars on shopping in a day. But the poor cannot afford it. The whole matter concludes that anything the poor can afford is not extremely rich. Because only the rich are able to afford what is meant for the rich.

Patience and hard work are the keys to success.

I cannot agree with you. People who are really rich never overspend on clothes. Those who have gone from poor to rich or who have acquired wealth without any difficulty tend to accumulate wealth. You can't call the real rich who only own money, you can call them financiers. There is a big difference between money and wealth. The rich always spend for themselves, looking for their own opportunities. They do not help anyone around them in danger, they are arrogant. Basically such a person spends extra money on clothes and luxury to make himself look rich. Their identity is only based on clothes and luxury.

A rich person never overspends on luxuries. They are always hardworking and philanthropic. A truly rich person is rich from the heart, they have very little ego. The identity of a real rich person does not depend on his clothes. If he wears old tattered clothes then people will think him rich. Because they help people in times of danger and their money is also used for human welfare. Real rich people are comfortable in simple clothes and simple life. They don't have to spend extra money to look rich, but with that money they do the necessary things.

What is seen in the picture is not entirely true, poor people and rich people have differences in terms of lifestyle, while the person in the picture is more accurately called a person who is forcing himself to look like a rich person or more precisely he is covering up his identity by pretending to be a rich person. Don't define something without conducting a survey of the lives of the majority of poor people and the lives of rich people, especially if the image is only a work of art where the figure in it cannot be identified. Luxurious living is always attached to the rich, while the poor continue to struggle in their own way to survive, instead of wearing luxurious clothes to be considered rich, they prefer to use the money to cover all the shortcomings in their lives.

What I see in the picture, is that if we switch signs poor and rich, nothing would change. We only see two different persons that are dressed for different occasions. The fact that one person has spend over $8k on his look does not mean his is poor. Also I find it wrong to judge one persons wealth by the way he dresses. Everyone dresses in clothes that are comfortable for them. In general this is just a picture and all people are different. There are those who want to pretend to be rich, those who buy only expensive and luxury things, those who are modest, those who dont see any benefits of expensive close. People are different.

The point is that rich people do not dress as rich, some of them live frugally and doesn't flaunt their money to people. But there are rich and very wealthy that really shows off their wealth with expensive cars and dresses. Definitely, it's not correct to judge one person in terms of his wealth with the way their dresses. But there are individuals that his social climbing, and trying to be wannabee rich in social media but in real life they don't have that much money.

So it's really up to us, on how we want to dress, if you are a show off or not. Nevertheless, one lesson we have learn from billionaires is that they don't go for fancy clothing, they just remain humble and they are all philanthropist and just want to give back to the society.

What does dress as rich really means? Wear clothes make from gilded fabrics? Expensive brands?

No one mentioned here, that the person that has dressed in $35-$70 clothes might wear them only for a day, and next day wear completely new set of clothes, while that person in more expensive clothes wear them for years and wash them milliontimes. Nevertheless, clothes isnt wealth index, as well as other luxury stuff, as they can be obtained with help of credit or borrowed.

Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

this is just picture with empty argument honestly, i've seen rich people wearing luxuries and poor people wearing cheap clothes, it's all coming down to individual preference, even if they are poor, but if they have money for the luxuries, it's really none of our business, since it's their money.

moreover, the rich people might just buy some cheap clothes but have few sports car, nobody knows, everyone have their own different hobby, if the rich people's hobby is hoarding some nike sneakers, then they'd hoard them in a heart beat.

in a nutshell rich can't be determined from clothing.

I see no problem spending your money on yourself. And let me tell you something you should understand. The rich spend money on things that the poor cannot afford. They may not buy luxurious clothes or jewelries but they live in a comfortable apartment. It could be a personal house or a rented one but the expenses the apartment is very high. The rich ride luxiours cars, they go to expensive hotel and restaurants, they travel around the world and to mention a few. The poor cannot afford these things, so they try to get what they can afford and it is no business to anyone.

What i find annoying is when the poor are trying to live the same life of the rich of which they know they cant do it for a longtime. In our society, we see people who need help yet they could spend their last card in expensive restaurants. Shop expensive clothes and the next minute they have nothing in their account.
