So, I know a few rich people and some that I could call average or slightly below average earners. By looking at they you wouldn't be able to tell who is who, because those average people often have more expensive phones and wear branded clothes.

If you want to see the difference the biggest tell are cars they drive. Average or below average earners will never have a new car. They will always want to show off, so they will often have well made, quality models, but those will be 10 year old cars. Rich families will have a couple of relatively new, 2-3 year old cars in the garage. They will often have a third car just for fun. Yes they will wear clothes that look cheap, but they will often wear expensive perfume and watches.

Another tell is the house. Rich people that I know always have well furnished and spacious homes.

The picture reminds me of a saying that "the real rich are those who do not show off their wealth", as you show in the picture where the person looks simple, and I have also heard some words from rich people like that where they say that wealth is not something to be shown off but is an advantage that must be enjoyed.

But of course that's only some people or not all rich people are like that, there are also some rich people that I see who like to show off the wealth they have, one of which is with various luxury goods that are used, so of course we can't say that it is an action taken by all rich people, maybe it depends on their personality and desires, and the only thing that I think is a problem is when you force everything that is beyond your ability regardless of whether you are poor, middle class or even rich.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor?
In my opinion, wearing expensive things is not in anyway or directly relating to being poor. It depends on the type of person and how he choose h/her dressing code. What i can tell you is that some middle class people dress nice because they can afford it, and it looks good on them. While some middle class people over spend just to look good or impress their spouse. while the money would have been used for investment rather than spending it unnecessarily on luxury.

Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
The rich leave a luxurious lifestyle than the poor or middle class, but the rich wears expensive things but you wouldn't know the worth, if you are not told. And some too will dress simple just for people not know how wealthy they are just as you have said. It's just vise versa.

As I was scrolling through my Facebook I saw this photo and how the image discribes the poor to be a kind of people that wears expensive thing to impress people to look like the rich, and the other way round, the rich appears to be simple probably not to be noticed as a rich person.
Poor doesn't spend that much money on clothes, you are mistaken because the poor can buy cheap Chinese clothes that look fashionable and nice. Poor people spend lots of money on iPhones and cars, I can say that from my experience with interacting with lots of people. You see a bunch of people with iPhones and an expensive car, then you visit them at home and you are amazed why they live in such a bad house if they have such an expensive car and phone.
I know many people locally who earn 300$ per month and still own an iPhone 15 Pro Max. They are in endless bank loans because of an iPhone.

My question now is that, Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
No, it doesn't. What's the point of having wealth if you don't show it off? What's the point of having a mansion if you'll never live there? I think that rich people, who don't wear expensive clothes, simply don't want to wear and prefer to stick old lifestyle that they had. There are type of men who take care of themselves and they are called metrosexuals. There is another type of men who don't care about their looks and that's pretty normal.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor?
And I thought that if you can afford to wear expensive clothes and accessories you are considered rich because only rich people can buy signature wears and pricey accessories, the poor people if poor by definition can only afford their daily basic needs if they have extra money for these then they are not considered poor.

You can be modest and still rich its not about what you wear but your value in terms of dollars and what you posses, some people are very modest and some rich people are very eager to flaunt what they can afford, its all about the character and belief of the individual not really what they have.

I do not think that this is true because we can only see their clothes. The rich will be paying very little to their employees and using that money to get more machinery and get more companies and more factories and make more money. They do not care about their clothing, because they may just purchase another factory for a billion dollars and make more money, whereas the poor dude can't, so what does the poor dude do? He buys an expensive watch he can barely afford.

Believe me, it is not a mindset thing, if you give that poor person a billion dollars, they will not go out and buy an expensive watch, they will go out and buy a good business they can support. How do I know? Because I have been both, never had billions, but whenever I had some money, I used it for further gains, whenever I was poor, I took out loans to get expensive stuff, it works for your future because when you have enough expensive stuff, you can later sell them and make some capital for a business.

I did that many times, from simple stuff like playstations to end up having cars, all by saving items instead of money, because saving money is hard, but paying loans is easier and the more shit I had, the more I sold and raised capital.

Is wearing expensive clothes, shoes, and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich don't wear expensive things or don't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

The picture that you showed us is misleading. A poor guy cannot buy expensive clotching If you are an average income earner, how can you buy clotches worth thousands of dollars? those who can show off or buy new expensive and branded clotching are those who can afford these and these are rich people.

If you see rich people wearing modest clothes, that's because its in their character and belief in simplicity, but in reality they are the ones who can buy expensive clotching and signature dresses, When you say poor, that is having a hard time meeting their daily needs, so if you're poor, I don't think you will prioritize expensive clotches over paying your bills.

I certainly agree on this. There’s no point a poor guy will dress like a rich one if he is having a hard time in his finances, otherwise if he dress like one, maybe he’s not really that poor. However, with rich people, they can afford all the luxury in life, but that doesn’t mean they still have to show off. Some are just simple in living, and wear simple outfits, but they are rich in all aspects of life most particularly in their finances.

There are several people like to dress to impress since they are going after for attention and want to get the trust of people. Since we can't deny that people think that well dress people is more appealing and this is what scammer take advantage that's why lots of people got scam by those people pretend to be rich and always show their fake richest everywhere even in online space.

But those comparison made by OP doesn't always come in real life since there are rich people always going after for luxurious things and there are poor people settle for less because this is what they can afford.

I think they got caught up with pictures of famous CEO's wearing simple shirt that's why they made this comparison.

There is a concept that those who came from dirt (here the concept of dirt is not used) after becoming princes will always emphasize their status. Since being poor, they have developed thousands of complexes about their poor appearance. In the same way, and I observe this in my country, people depend on the opinion of others about themselves. They buy expensive cars and clothes but do not have the most obvious things in their home. I have seen how these people save on everything—food, health, on their children's education—they do not have comfortable housing, but everything that goes beyond their family, they present a successful existence. But if we talk about people with good, and we can even talk about rich wealth, for them, wearing things is primarily determined by convenience and not by prices, since they understand where and at what level they are, and convenience is accepted as self-evident things, without bragging and vanity.

Maybe that will looks happen to some poor people but not all of them because I am sure the other people will not do that and realizes that they must prioritize their primary needs than tertiary needs. They want to looks good in the other's perception so they will buy luxury things that can helps them to get the attention. To be honest, that will not be necessary because what they must care is how they can fills their primary needs and not living with excessively.

Wearing expensive cloths and other expensive things is not a sign of being poor but that will only a sign to show that they are fashionable or something like that. They don't think more about anything because they only want to follow the lifestyle and even some people willing not to fills their primary needs but use their money to buy other expensive things. That will be a wrong for them because they prioritize their lifestyle than their primary things.

It's not really about being rich or poor. it's more about the state of mind. There are statistics proving that people with lower incomes often spend a bigger percentage of their money on things to fit in, like clothes, shoes, or gadgets, while a lot of wealthy people have already proved themselves, so they don't need to show off. But most millionaires stay in modest houses and drive ordinary cars, so that's not all about luxury to them either.

Ultimately, though, it depends on the individual. Some rich people love their designer stuff; others couldn't care less. Same with the less money-either they like experiences or saving it rather than fancy things. So, neither is a hard-and-fast rule. Not all less well-off people spend their incomes on high-end items; many are equally intent on saving or just barely surviving. More realistically, basic needs-cum-priorities include rent, food, and healthcare for many low-income households. Such people spend on flashy goods just to look rich-this is an ethnocentric stereotype about poverty.

Also, the factors that influence just how anyone spends their money are so numerous: culture, personal values, and even upbringing. Some people, regardless of income class, may simply be more interested than others in fashion or technology. It is not always about flash or acting wealthy.

Not that rich people don't care about their looks. I guess it's just that they aren't concerned about their looks all the time, unless they make a living from their personal image. Rich individuals are usually pretty busy, so they will naturally tend to go through the simplest way to wear themselves to save time and get more comfortable. Meanwhile, someone who is constantly concerned about his looks will have a hard time thriving, because he spends too much money on worthless things, besides not having enough focus and attention on matters which can help him making more money...

Well said mate, people who make money or are business oriented doesn't care much about their looks and appearance because of their numerous busy schedules, they can even be in the boutique to buy some clothes and receive a call about a business proposal they will just discard buying the clothes to attend to business. This reminds me of my life when I didn't have a job, I was literally having time for worthless things that doesn't add value to my life and I think about what to eat and clothes to wear all the time but immediately i got a job it made me become so occupied as I don't even have the time to wear clothes again even when I have a lot in my wardrobe as most of the time am always with my working coveralls and safety boots so definitely people who thinks much about what to wear or eat are literally people that doesn't have something judicious they engage their time with but for those who have productive things they do with their time they don't care much about material things anymore but rather on things that will bring proceeds for them.

You don't have time to care about dressing or eating, that proves you are not rich and not a real rich person. Who told you that rich people don't care about looks, clothes and food...? Did you know that the seemingly simple outfits worn by billionaires like Elon, Gate, Mark Zuckerberg...come from top brands and are even custom designed for them? Don't let their simple appearance fool you into thinking they are cheap. Not to mention, have you seen any rich people riding bicycles to work, renting houses...or do they go to work in supercars, have private helicopters, live in villas?

Don't say that rich people only spend time making money and don't care about their appearance or health. We have never experienced the lives of rich people, so don't be so quick to judge them just because of the images they want you to see on the internet.

I used to have a boss who dressed very casually, he always wore T-shirts and jeans to work and to parties, and that unintentionally made people misunderstand that he was a frugal boss and didn't care about his appearance. But did you know that every t-shirt and pair of pants that people consider normal is worth thousands of dollars? Even his slippers are the same as mine, and I only bought them for a few dollars while his slippers are from the top brand Nike.

Yeah! I don't know poor people that routinely wear $8K clothes.

I think it is misleading the title as well as the image. It should not contrast the poor with the rich, but rather the middle class that tries to pretend to be rich by buying clothes and other objects. There are several Yotube videos explaining how Gucci and other brands today target that middle class trying to appear wealthy.

The reality is that there are rich people who wear expensive clothes and there are also rich people who wear affordable clothes. In the same manner that there are also poor people who wear expensive clothes and there are also poor people who wear cheap clothes. So I guess it's not about whether you're rich or poor. It's probably about your character.

The issue, however, isn't the rich people. If they're simple, no problem. If they wear expensive clothes, no problem as well because they have the money. The issue is with the poor. Many of them have misplaced priorities. I can remember the great Lee Kwan Yew having mentioned this in one of his speeches. A poor person who lacks some of the basic essentials and yet has two expensive phones which is everything but necessary is plain wrong.

I don't know how you define poor in this context. Is it poor of mindset/attitude? Or poor of having wealth?  Huh

The man who wears the expensive cloths, he isn't poor man. He must have enough money to buy the expensive cloths. Poor man will never have a chance to have expensive cloths, he has no enough money (very limited money). According to my experience, poor people prefer to buy daily basic needs if they have money. People who possibly wear expensive cloths, are middle and upper economic class.

I tend to view it as a life style. Well, I can admit that sometimes there are middle class people that act like a high class level. They use expensive stuff to show others that they are rich people. Meanwhile some high economic class people prefer to live simply because style is not a priority for them. Well actually it's all about personal nature or characteristic. There are also rich people who often spend a lot of money for the luxury.

So, who spend more? I think there is no valid research about this. It can be middle class or high class, but it mustn't be poor people.

What you don't see in social media is what the real thing the rich people does. They don't brag, they don't show off but they are living peacefully and keep doing their businesses and money making machines. While the poor, this is common, they like to show off that they're having way better life than the others. But not all poor and rich people are like this and we're all entitled to do the sht things that we want to. But the real rich are humble and they don't really like to show the classy life that they're having and most of the rich that I know, live a very simple life without dramas and issues. They enjoy the money that they are having and reinvesting it somewhere else and if clothes are part of their assets because they have to be formal when doing meetings and business proposals, that's part of life. And for the poor, no one will stop them from purchasing the nicest things on Earth like having fancy clothes if they can afford it. As long as it's not going to bother anyone but only them, that's fine, they're free to buy all the things they can afford.

This is a social lifestyle in my own opinion. Those that want to look rich are probably not poor people, they could be people that are not too poor to afford the lifestyle of the rich and not too poor to say they can get their ends meet daily. It’s is a stepwise thing and you can’t skip a step so far from yours and expect to live comfortably, it’ll definitely have effect in your living. The picture you’ve shown has just demonstrated a person who is so overly interested in fashion and will want to get every part of his body covered with luxurious stuffs, while the other person just wants to dress simple. The guy dressing simple doesn’t signify in some instance that his dress won’t be worth pass the other person, it could, this is just a fashion choice.

On the moment that you do have that kind of perception towards life or simply with your lifestyle on which if you do have that sufficient time on minding things then you would might end up into those conditions that you would really be focusing in regarding about your looks or on what you do wear or getting involved into something which isnt important. Sometimes we would really be putting ourselves to get derailed just because on what you do see around. People do really easily get influenced into things plus having that kind of behavior or part of personality which would justify those kind of acts then its no surprise that people will really be that different when it comes into their personal approach on things. Its true that once you do make yourself get busy then you cant think off well about these stuffs since you would be focusing into the things that you are currently dealing with.

Somehow there would really be still those people who cant just forget to make priorities about on how they do look. They do want or like for other people to praise or respect them up.
We do know that once they do know that you are rich or looking rich then you would really be getting that kind of respect or having that good approach or treatment and this is where
other people do really think or focus about.
I do agree on this one on which this is really that happening in real life. Lets just put up some real situations on which your relatives will really be having that a huge respect on you on the  time that they've known that you are already that rich or someone who do have the money but on the moment that you are on such condition on which you dont have any money or you are in struggle then those positive treatment and approach towards you earlier would really be having those notable changes on which you could really be able to say that money is indeed the determining factor on how people would be treating or respecting you. This is why it is really that just that depending on what kind of person are you because there are some individuals who doesnt really care about their status or the looks they do have as long they do have the food that they could put up into their table then this what matter the most.

Do we have to think about the title?  It is obvious, it is the rich who spent the most in luxury. A simple reason is that they have the money to spend for it.

In addition according to this article: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/low-income-families-spend-40-of-their-money-on-luxuries-2017-06-28, the wealthiest family spend 65% of their income on luxury while 35% is spent on necessity. While the family in middle income spent 50% on luxury and 50% on necessities.  While the lowest-income families (the bottom fifth of earners) spend 40% on luxuries and 60% on necessities.

When it comes to surveys then we cant really be that so sure that this one would really be that precise considering that it will really be just that been asked for a set of people not unless
if the numbers are huge then it might be considerable but having those kind of percentages is something that i wont really be seeing this to be precise but
most likely we would really be sitting with those numbers.

The answer to the first question is no.
Second answer is no.
The rich live a more luxurious life than the person who is a low income earner. They shop at the best boutiques , they were luxury watches that are more of an asset than a time piece, they use very expensive electronic devices. Anything they feel insulted if whatever they're buying isn't "expensive". Have you seen their houses and how much they spend on security? Can we make the same comparison with the low income earners? No.
