As far as I know the out appearance is totally up to the individual. But the general fact is very deeply reflected that there are some people who are not rich themselves but by their behavior it seems that they belong to a very rich family and those who are really rich people are used to live a very simple life. They have wealth but they are not proud of it. I think people have different attitudes. Some don't have money but they never want to appear poor to others. Most of the real rich people I've personally seen don't do anything to raise their profile. They like to walk very casually. One would never guess that they are one of the rich people by looking at their dress. Different societies may have different classes of people who have different tastes. Although the behavior of all rich and poor people is not the same, the rich are generally not so keen to express themselves but those who are poor or have suddenly become rich have such characteristics.

I think we should stop judging and evaluating others, and look at ourselves.

Is there anyone here who is rich, has millions of dollars in his account but still wears cheap clothes like the guy in the picture? Is there anyone who is rich but still doesn't have a luxury car or a nice house? Conversely, is there anyone here who is poor but still spends thousands of dollars on luxury items? Or are we saving every penny to buy food for our families and prepare for the future? I find it funny how some people look at that picture and are quick to judge others when why don't we look at ourselves and see if we resemble anyone in that picture?

@OP, are you rich pretending to be poor or are you poor but still want to appear rich? Don't judge others when we are not them.

I understand your point on not judging others actions, but first we should focus on ourselves. There is one significant difference between the poor and the rich. The poor man who has enough savings will always try to feel like he is already rich, and he will do his possible best to look rich. most especially to attract the ladies, which might lead him to purchase luxury items as much as he can purchase; in some cases, it might even lead to borrowing expensive vehicles, chains and many other luxury items that he can’t afford.

On the other hand, a rich man will always like to disguise himself to prove he is a poor person so that he can get those that will be with him for his personality, not for his money or other valuable items, because many people that are around him are there for a reason. This is just an explanation of a proverb that says “people trend to go for what they don’t have.” That means the rich can have as many luxuries as they want, but they will not like to use them, while the poor will try their possible best to have those luxurious.

How did you know that this person is really poor when he can even afford to buy all of these expensive stuffs. When we say poor, those who keep struggling on their finances just to make ends meet, but telling us that this one is poor and yet he wears luxury things, you might be having a wrong judgement I guess.

However, those rich people might be living a simple life physically and would not prefer going into luxury, but when it comes to their bank accounts balance and multi investments, there you will know that they are still living a luxury life.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?

I think I stumped over this image as well and what I did was just smile, and you know what came through my mind as at that moment. Mostimes this set of personsdo this to hide their identity of being poor and in the contrary the rich men especially 60% of them don't actually like showing off their wealth through their clothes  and wears but rather they prefer to remain low.

I don't necessarily know why they do that but the poor guy would want to borrow to impress whatsoever and show off like he has it all which is not bad tho, so the poor and rich spend on Luxury but the poor man don't really spend more like the rich but it aspires to be like them so  he looks for means to,but depending on their decisions on showing it off cause the rich man will have so much luxury but decide to go on low budgets clothes and this occur to the ones that are humbled and want to stay low amidst their wealth. I actually know of some men that have fat accounts and achievement but they rather prefer to go on foot aside having luxurious cars.
There are so rich many men that don't like to show their wealth and they don't like bragging contrary to many of our big music stars that would rather use their money to buy diamonds and gold and wear not even thinking about making a good investment that would keep giving money. I know some of them have their several investments but it is not compared to how much they are spending in the club and using to buy the latest cars, clothes, houses, diamonds and gold. Their are some foolish poor people that would likewise use their money to impress the public, buying shoes, clothes and other things so people can see that like they are rich which the reasonable ones would rather go invest so that they could make some money.

As I was scrolling through my Facebook I saw this photo and how the image discribes the poor to be a kind of people that wears expensive thing to impress people to look like the rich, and the other way round, the rich appears to be simple probably not to be noticed as a rich person. My question now is that,

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
Luxury lifestyle mainly depends on the type of vision and needs of people.  There are many poor people who like to live a simple life and they will live a simple life whether their economic condition is bad or good.
And there are some poor people who, despite having no money supply, will live a luxurious life even if they borrow money.  In fact, they are more likely to engage in any type of activity to live a luxurious life than there is a need for them.
There are some people from rich and noble families who live a luxurious life in their hereditary heritage and they do not feel stingy to spend any kind of money for any lifestyle at any time.  Again there are many rich people who despite having a lot of money do not live a luxurious life but prefer to live a simple life like other common people.

Different people would be having that different perspective into their lives despite of their financial status or condition then it wont really be something that hinders them on doing the things that they do have in mind.
On the moment that they do consider out on spending into luxurious things over their priorities or needs then there's something wrong with their mind. Its really indeed a behavior on which it would really be that putting some emphasis that you will really be that having a good looks and wont really be giving out any priority when it comes to your needs. It is really just that too sad that there were actually people who do have
this kind of mindset on which it is really just that too sad that on the moment that they are really struggling then they are really that trying to make themselves look good. lol

Real rich people would really be that too busy to mind off these kind of things on which they will really be that too busy when it comes on expanding out their business. They dont care nor really just that
contented on what they do wear up as long its clean and tidy then thats good to go and just like on what most people do say that its not our responsibility on trying to impress other people.
What for? The important thing on here is on how much you do have on your pocket and could be able to survive on day to day living. Its not something that on how good we do look
but in the end your pocket or wallet is empty just because of those non wise spending into something which isnt generating some profits or simply it is really just that too excessive
or not really that important anymore.

The picture reminds me of a saying that "the real rich are those who do not show off their wealth", as you show in the picture where the person looks simple, and I have also heard some words from rich people like that where they say that wealth is not something to be shown off but is an advantage that must be enjoyed.

But of course that's only some people or not all rich people are like that, there are also some rich people that I see who like to show off the wealth they have, one of which is with various luxury goods that are used, so of course we can't say that it is an action taken by all rich people, maybe it depends on their personality and desires, and the only thing that I think is a problem is when you force everything that is beyond your ability regardless of whether you are poor, middle class or even rich.

The elites you see who show off with luxury items; clothes, cars, jewelries, etc, are probably working on fame. Some of them do this to revitalize their family story, or to get across to other rich men in their vicinity. For instance, a rich family that wasn't known by the public, but have decided to contest for a political power can begin with displaying their wealth to attract people's attention and build more exposure.

I agree with you. Rich people are not indifferent to their appearance and they live simply. But the truly rich are at a level where they do not need recognition from others by buying luxury goods. Even for them luxury goods are just ordinary goods that can be bought anytime. I also see some rich people in my area who no longer care about their appearance. They wear what they want. But in fact they buy things without looking at how much they cost. Sometimes they buy a shirt for tens of dollars but they can also buy a watch for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I think for that matter it comes back to each individual, regardless of whether they are rich or not, but for appearance, everyone has their own taste, there are people who want luxury goods for recognition from others and there are also those who want luxury goods with the belief that they have good quality so both rich and poor people will have their own views on it.
In fact, for rich people, they will feel inferior to their relationships if they do not use luxury goods so that their environment forces them to be like that and I think it doesn't matter as long as they can, likewise for poor people, they will try to be able to meet their needs even though it is not feasible for those who are not rich, but I will not blame their desires in life.

Well we do live in this world where alot is about how much money you do have. So even if a person is poor he will not want to feel poor. So he can buy expensive things so he will get more respect from peers.
But it is not the right thing to do. This person will make himself look rich but then not take care of his family. But for me I think its the rich that does spend more money on these luxury things.

I think it depends on the nature of each individual, because it can't be ascertained clearly either. However, if you look at it with your own eyes, I think we will definitely see poor people who tend to spend a lot of money to be able to appear luxurious in front of many people, and in my environment, poor people are like this because maybe I think they are thirsty for praise from others, even worse, some even borrow money just to be stylish, this is actually a bad choice in my opinion.
I agree if you say that poor people spend more money on luxury, because as I said above. While with rich people they tend to prefer to appear simple when going out. But what is right is like that, appearing simple but behind that we have such stable finances rather than being stylish but behind that there are things that can cause us problems. Grin

You cannot judge by appearances alone, just take a look at some of the most famous musicians and actors around the world and you will see they wear the most expensive stuff they can find, and yet there is no doubt that they have a lot of money as well, still it is true there are many people that in their desire to portray an image of being rich and successful buy all kind of stuff they cannot afford, and in that case those purchases will prevent them from achieving the true wealth they are looking for.

Most poor People like to live flamboyant lifestyles that they can't keep up with just to feel among, well it's said that poverty starts in the mind, been rich isn't about wearing fancy outfits or having all the flashy things, it's about having multiple streams of businesses that generates wealth and having assets that are of high value, having all of these would set your life straight no matter how bad the economy gets. Poor people go after temporary pleasures just to satisfy themselves for that moment forgetting about the future

So, I know a few rich people and some that I could call average or slightly below average earners. By looking at they you wouldn't be able to tell who is who, because those average people often have more expensive phones and wear branded clothes.

If you want to see the difference the biggest tell are cars they drive. Average or below average earners will never have a new car. They will always want to show off, so they will often have well made, quality models, but those will be 10 year old cars. Rich families will have a couple of relatively new, 2-3 year old cars in the garage. They will often have a third car just for fun. Yes they will wear clothes that look cheap, but they will often wear expensive perfume and watches.

Another tell is the house. Rich people that I know always have well furnished and spacious homes.

Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor?
In my opinion, wearing expensive things is not in anyway or directly relating to being poor. It depends on the type of person and how he choose h/her dressing code. What i can tell you is that some middle class people dress nice because they can afford it, and it looks good on them. While some middle class people over spend just to look good or impress their spouse. while the money would have been used for investment rather than spending it unnecessarily on luxury.

Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
The rich leave a luxurious lifestyle than the poor or middle class, but the rich wears expensive things but you wouldn't know the worth, if you are not told. And some too will dress simple just for people not know how wealthy they are just as you have said. It's just vise versa.

Poor doesn't spend that much money on clothes, you are mistaken because the poor can buy cheap Chinese clothes that look fashionable and nice. Poor people spend lots of money on iPhones and cars, I can say that from my experience with interacting with lots of people. You see a bunch of people with iPhones and an expensive car, then you visit them at home and you are amazed why they live in such a bad house if they have such an expensive car and phone.
I know many people locally who earn 300$ per month and still own an iPhone 15 Pro Max. They are in endless bank loans because of an iPhone.

My question now is that, Does wearing of expensive cloths, shoes and other expensive things a sign of being poor? Or does it mean the rich doesn't wear expensive things or doesn't leave a luxurious lifestyle?
No, it doesn't. What's the point of having wealth if you don't show it off? What's the point of having a mansion if you'll never live there? I think that rich people, who don't wear expensive clothes, simply don't want to wear and prefer to stick old lifestyle that they had. There are type of men who take care of themselves and they are called metrosexuals. There is another type of men who don't care about their looks and that's pretty normal.
