Now that was a thrilling end to the last fifteen minutes of the Roosters 21 - Broncos 20 game.

Starting at 18 - 18, the Roosters made a one point field goal

After a high tackle the Broncos took the lead with a two point penalty goal

Then with just two minutes to go, the Roosters had their own two point penalty goal kick then spent two tense minutes fending off the Broncos to win the game and return to the top four in the competition.

Rugby Union.

I really must visit the Rugby Australia site more often:

There's better coverage of the Women's games (would like to see a play-by-play scorecard like how the League website does.  (let's not mention the drubbing the Australian's got in the Bledisloe Cup)

18 - 18 at the 65 minute mark with fifteen nail-blighting minutes left to go.

I didn't do too good at picking winners in the Olympics (including the various Rugby games on offer) so I'm hoping the Roosters pull off a last minute win.  This game's very close.

In the earlier game, the Panthers slayed the Dragons 34 - 16

As I'm writing this the game is level between The Roosters and Broncos at 12 - 12,
I really need The Roosters to win, I lost a lot of bets this week on the Tennis in Toronto
and Montreal. I have doubled up on my bets on the NRL this week.

As we enter the final stages of the "pre final" qualifications there is a lot to play for
for some teams to make it into the top 4 and 8, exciting.

For the rest of this round I have The Panthers, Roosters and Sea Eagles over The Eels,
if both The Roosters and Sea Eagles win I recon they both will overtake The Eels, what
do you think?

At a guess, the Sea Eagles would still be in sixth position on 28 points jointly with the Eels (also 28 points, or is it 29 points if they get one point for the loss??)

If the Roosters and Sea Eagles both win, then the Eagles and Eels would just swap places and be

  • Roosters - 30 points
  • Eels - 28 points
  • Sea Eagles - 28 points

A Titans win would keep them in seventh (a loss would shunt them to tied eight with the Raiders who would rise to seventh - I don't think the Raiders are a spent force any time yet)

A win for the Sharks would lift them to tied (7/8/9) with Titans/Raiders on 20 points.

The shoulder charge and subsequent high tackle are what's holding the Raiders back (and plenty of unforced errors)

I had Storm to win this one, from the highlights they looked in control of the match
although the scoreboard was close. That was some high tackle by Corey Harawira-Naera
with 5 minutes to go in the match. Fair play to him though for apologising for a moment
of madness.

For the rest of this round I have The Panthers, Roosters and Sea Eagles over The Eels,

I *was* going to write up how the Melbourne Storm won their match in the 77th minute with a two point field goal, but just two minutes later, they repeted the effort to beat the Canberra Raiders 26 - 16.

https://www.nrl.com/draw/nrl-premiership/2021/round-22/storm-v-raiders/

The last fifteen minutes saw the Raiders pile on multiple errors and one send off right before the inevitable match winning field goal.  Then, after an succesful "Captain's Challenge" by the Raiders (a ploy to catch their breaths) the Storm gained the ball and made a second field goal.

The NRL have quietly added a button at the lower right of screen "Women of NRL".  However, all it does is take you to the draws page https://www.nrl.com/draw/ (and there isn't any current news concerning the Women's matches)..

Yea, information seems to be a bit hit and miss, I can see that the Womens League
game is expanding this year with further expansions next year

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/06/11/nrl-telstra-womens-premiership-expansion/

I can see from wiki the pre-season fixtures

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_NRL_Women%27s_season

but I cannot see any dates.

The NRL website is fantastic if you want to find out abour the mens games but its
not o much for the womens side.

Play your part this Harvey Norman Women in League Round (August 12th - 15th)

Every player, every coach, and every fan has a part to play in raising the next generation of champions and creating a level playing field. Big or small, we can all play our part. How are you playing yours?

I don't normally watch the pre-game talk on channel nine (on the week-ends at any rate), however, I caught this commercial promoting the "Women in League round" this week.  The NRL's own website is very klunky and thin on information about the State Based competitions, or, the Women's games in general, so I'll have to do a bit more digging.

I'm going with Storm, Panthers, Roosters and The Sea Eagles. The Eels are slipping, they
are looking like slipping into 5th after this weeks games with 3 to play before the finals, two
of those games are against Storm and The Panthers, massive task ahead

Round 21 of the 2021 NRL Australia finished without a hitch as the SEQ 11 LGA's came out of lock-down (masks are still mandatory for another two weeks)

Oddly enough, I said the sharks, but it seems I had a win on the NZ Warriors (not sure what happened there)  Grin

Week 22 of the NRL 2021 Season kicks off in three days time.

I expect the Storm, Panthers, Roosters, Rabbitohs, Cowboys, Sea Eagles, Warriors and Sharks to further cement their positions in the top ten/eight.

In the last game of the series of the British & Irish Lions the game was a close one
with the Lions winning by 3 points. Compared to the second game in the series this
was a better game with some really good rugby played.

The Lions played a fast positive game in the first half but could only manage a 10-6
lead at half time. It looked like they couldt keep up that play in the second and just
lost by 3 points.

I didnt bet on The Sharks in the end - luckily! and my 5 picks won their matches.

I didnt put anything on either the Raiders or Dragons!

I am 2 from 5 so far on Week 21 of The NRL, Titans and Rabbitohs. The Eels do indeed
seem to be slipping, they were so good earlier in the season. I think they will get overtake
by The Roosters, maybe not tomorrow though as obviously they are facing The Panthers.

I might put a small bet on The Sharks to beat The Warriors.....

The Raiders can't be discounted in their match against the Dragons who haven't played their best matches in recent weeks.

I should have gone for the Raiders over the deteriorating Dragons team who lost 12 - 20 against the firming Canberra Raiders tonight.

In the later game it was Rabbitohs who blitz the Eels who are showing signs of having peaked too early in the season.

Tomorrow, the Sharks Vs NZ Warriors game will be the one to watch (my money is on the Sharks)

I heard that announcement on the radio yesterday about the World cup being postponed
until 2022. I agree with the decision if its only means that the pandemic will be under control
and that we could enjoy the game with capacity audiences.

2021 World Cup officially postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/08/05/2021-world-cup-officially-postponed-due-to-covid-19-pandemic/

Quote
RLWC2021 CEO Jon Dutton admitted a World Cup without Australia and New Zealand would have lacked credibility and predicted the tournament may produce a better financial return after being postponed until next year.

The World Cup board reluctantly decided to postpone the tournament after the Kangaroos, Jillaroos, Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns were withdrawn due to concerns over the safety of players travelling to England this year.

The tournament will go ahead at the end of the 2022 season, but it is likely to be brought forward to avoid a clash with the FIFA World Cup, which begins on November 21 in Qatar.

I can't say I'm surprised to hear this news given Australia and New Zealand pulled out of the tournament not that long ago.

The Broader Game: International stars commit to NRLW despite delay

Titans recruit Karli Hansen was so determined to play in the NRL Telstra Women's Premiership this year she quit her full-time job in New Zealand and waited patiently as four flights were cancelled.

So there is no way the rising Kiwi playmaker was ready to give up her NRLW dream this season when news filtered through the competition won't get underway until the first weekend in October.

Sometimes it takes a little bit of searching to find items about the Women's Rugby League fixtures, but this link was fairly prominent on the NRL's main page.

I have The Knights, Titans, Panthers and Storm.

Currently The Knights are comfortably ahead of the Broncos 28-8, not a surprise really.

And I have just added The Rabbitohs, it looks like The Eels are slipping a bit. The sportsbet odds
favour The Springbok 1.58 - 2.28

My three wagers on the SA tour were/are all for the England/Irish Lions.  I know the Springboks always play a tough game and hopfully the third match will be a powerful encounter.

Round 21 of the NRL kick off tonight (at least, I *think* it kicks off tonight):

My pics of the week are the Knights, Dragons, Rabbitohs, Sharks, Panthers, Storm, West's Tigers and the Titans over the Cowboys.

The Raiders can't be discounted in their match against the Dragons who haven't played their best matches in recent weeks.

I can imagine that will make fr some really good games, potentially very competitive games.

So with 5 rounds left positions 7, 8, 9 and 10 on the ladder are the hot spots. Raiders and Dragons
are very close, either could bump The Sharks out of 8th spot.

Both the Sea Eagles and the Titans have continued the 2021's season of unusually high scoring games with 34 -6 and 40 - 22 wins against the Bulldogs and Sharks respectively.

Round 21 is just around the corner and I expect those in rank 6 through 12 will no doubt try pouring on the power to secure their places in the top eight before the finals roll in.

Yes the two favourites won which im happy with!

I totally forgot the second Lions v Springbocks game was at the weekend and I would
have put a bet on the Springboks to win, which they did 27-9. According to this article
the game was not pleasant to watch > https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/rugby/arid-40350110.html

I think everyone knew the Springboks would rebound back with a win.
