I just read up on this State of Origin best of 3 tournament, it does suggest the Queensland
team have an edge. In a best of 3 series where would the 3 games normally be played?
1 home, 1 away and 1 neutral?
Yes, im interested to see if the Broncos wake up as per your earlier post in this thread!
I've found the Broncos "wake up" after the State of Origin when most of the Broncos are on the Qld team for the three games. Yes, traditionally in the 30+ years the SOO has been played, there is one Sydne game, one Brisbane game and then a second game in either state. Then, about ten years ago Melbourne was added to the roster (not actually a part of the competition).
Prior to the SOO format there was a one-off Qld Vs NSW game which NSW had one for 40+ years because although the players had started their careers in Qld, they were tempted south to the big smoke and the dollars their clubs paid.
The NRL USED TO stand for New South Wales Rugby league, but when the Broncos were formed (out of the old Brisbane Wests' Tigers) they joined the NRL and it changed it's name to the "National Rugby League".
The NRL are proposing a change to the formulae of teams next year to have all NSW teams play ONLY NSW teams exclusively while all other teams are in a parallel competition and the winner of the NSW series plays the winner of the "everyone else" competition.
Essentially a "State of Origin" for NSW to play the "best of the rest".
Madness.
