Maybe it is still a rumor, a thing like this is not new for some persons who keep on spreading rumors without any evidence, he doesn't even input some source for that news so basically, he just created it without any valid proof. Maybe we just need to wait for the official announcement of Facebook if they are going to buy bitcoin or not but if this is true then it would give a positive lookout for the value of bitcoin and for the crypto community.
I agree that people should see valid proof before believing in this rumor. It is still a rumor until they finally announce or post any evidence that will support the rumor. Since no official announcement from Facebook, then it is still a rumor. I'll be one of the people who will support Facebook to join in Bitcoin. We all know that a lot of people are using Facebook, if it happens then more of people will recognize bitcoin and possible will give good value of bitcoin and for other crypto community.

What's the point of discussing rumors?
Facebook either owns Bitcoins or it doesn't.The truth will be revealed, when they post their balance sheets.
I don't think that this will boost the Bitcoin price. It might bring back the hype for a while, but it will be only short term.
Who the hell is Alistair Milne and does he have any insider information about Facebook owning Bitcoinsor Satoshi sending his BTC to a burn address?I think that he is most likely speculating or lying about this information.

My guess is that he himself is predicting that because that's a strong possibility and if he is right, his account would get ton of more street cred because he broke the news (not that he heeds it), and if he is wrong... Well, no one cares because it was a "rumor" anyway. I have to try that approach too.
So it is basically the safest approach of all of them because you can deny when it is wrong and you will be a prophet if it really happens. Some users say that it will not be true but who knows and Facebook suddenly changed their stance against bitcoin.

Tesla buying Bitcoin made sense, because Elon Musk is quite an eccentric guy, but I just don't see Facebook doing something like this. When Tesla disclosed their BTC purchase, their stock fell a few percents immediately, I'm sure Facebook wouldn't want to risk such thing.

Also, Facebook showed anti-Bitcoin behavior in the past, they banned any ads that contain words Bitcoin or crypto on their platform.

yes I agree with you. I don't believe this rumor, because Facebook doesn't like crypto. they prohibit crypto advertisements on the platform, which is one sign that they are not interested. it made more sense if they released their own coin, like rumors a few years ago. rather than investing in bitcoin.

Too bad Alistair didn't even provide what the rumour was based on(assuming it wasn't just some random guess by him or his source). Hence this rumour really isn't worth that much because we really have almost nothing to agree/disagree on lol.
It is a bad try to create news and lift up Bitcoin price.

Without such low value news, rumour I believe that many billionaires on the world have intention to invest in Bitcoin. Why not if they are billionaires and smart enough to make a decision that is not difficult?
Why not if they have big love enrich their capital with works, products, operations and Bitcoin investment is one the easiest and best option for them?
Less of pressure than company's operation management and kind of guarantee for profit in long term. It is Bitcoin.

I wonder why people care so much about what celebrities said instead of making their own judgement. But it is a good news bitcoin if facebook decides to enter the game by holding a few bitcoin. But over, the news only create FOMO, nothing less.

It's because as much as we hate those celebrities joining the bandwagon, in a sense they are going to be a big boost to the market, just like when we confirmed that Tesla and Elon did invest big on BTC.

So I would say it's a win win for us. As far as Mark and Facebook goes, I still have qualms about it until we really see on their annual reports that they indeed invest on bitcoin just like what Tesla did. If so this will make a lot of noise, and probably we will see a big increase on the price.

Facebook did plan to release their own token and seeing it from their view they must have good knowledge of how cryptocurrency worked for its own economy. I wouldn't wonder if Facebook or Zuckerberg holds Bitcoin but announcing it is just digging his own grave.

There is Facebook Pay though which works just like Paypal and adopting BTC with Facebook pay is possible, this is a good option for them than having Libra.

If this is true, I expect a huge leg up in the BTC price very soon. As much as I hate Facebook, they have an incredibly large userbase. I wouldn't be too proud to know that corps are investing in BTC either, but it is what it is. They're chasing profit, but the scary part is the kind of power they earn over the economy through their billions. Facebook and Tesla alone could cripple the markets within the snap of a finger if they wanted to, considering the mass of BTC they could own together.

If Facebook really holds Bitcoin, then it seems really interesting to me that they still haven't announced it. Tesla made a huge investment and they announced it, for example. If Facebook also makes an announcement like it, the price could go to the moon again.
Wouldn't make sense to announce before the investment. Tesla didn't either. It'd be a very bad idea. Best thing they can do is keep silence and invest in the background while nobody suspects a thing. Otherwise, Tesla or Facebook would have to purchase after a pump..

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Facebook indeed ha some cryptocurrency holding. But it wouldn't make sense either for them to announce it, given they still have Libra in the shed, waiting to be revisited and be worked at again. Also, the reputation of Alistair Milne on these kind of things isn't one to be trusted since he made several tweets before regarding rumours that never came true.

Every large company are interested in bitcoins for a while now that it wouldn't really make much of a change if Facebook is one of them.

I don't know, but I would take this as a grain of salt. We need to see those report first to say that they hedge their assets against bitcoin like what Elon and his company did. So don't take his seriously and expect the price of bitcoin to jump.

It's just a rumor, wait until the announcement comes from Facebook. I think there's a relation of the upcoming announcement about Libra. They've hired people who have skills in blockchain and understands the concept of it. I'm also assuming and guessing what the announcement will be.
But nevertheless, whatever will be the announcement of Facebook if it's related to bitcoin, that will bring good effect but if not, let's just accept whatever it is.

Probably on the fact that FB will surely publish its business report for Q1, and he uses it for his PR, whether he has any information that it is true or not. I read some of the comments below his post, and in some of them some mention that he already had similar rumors that proved inaccurate.
I guess, but then this should be for most major cash-heavy companies. But yea, I guess mentioning a specific company will get you more publicity.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised if FB really announces that it has Bitcoin in its possession, when it comes to profits, companies like this don't choose ways - selling user data, Libra or Bitcoin doesn't matter.
This will really really be an interesting few weeks for sure. There were also "rumours" about Apple, and their earnings report comes tomorrow(2021-04-28). *fingers crossed*

I agree. I was just checking Alistair's Twitter for similar 'rumor' posts in the past.

So far, I've found one:

 Roll Eyes

There's a chance that the Facebook rumour came from someone. But this one? Just totally absurd rumour that he must've been trolling. Like for that rumour to literally have some slightest merit, it could've been at least an old quote from Satoshi himself.
