You can capture the moment before making another post. I sent you 7 merit to one of your post 😉. I wish I was a merit source and could send more to some of your posts but I am not. I had 10 and now 3 lefts LOL. By the way, it was fun to send out the merit but I do not think anyone think it was an abuse too. If I check your post history than you deserve more. Good job.

Now, I take the opportunity to ask. What is the topic that explains how the field of activity works?  Embarrassed

How is forum activity calculated?
Activity is calculated with the following formula:
Code:
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is increased by posting and is updated every hour; however, the updated number of activity points will be reflected at your profile at the end of the current activity period. As a note, in case you have latent activity points from earlier periods (meaning activity periods where you didn't post daily: in this case, the days when you did not post become latent activity points), these ones will be updated on your profile after 1 hour. You can gain a maximum of 14 activity points every 2 weeks.

It's one of the first posts I had read after registering on this forum, since it's 'sticky' in the Beginners & Help board and has a nice exclamation mark icon.
But since you registered 3 years before that topic, I guess you haven't seen it yet.. Grin

You could not show up there. Perhaps you did not pay attention to what the statistics present. The users mentioned by Ddmr are those which have more merits than posts (not more merits than activity).

I make it 2003 forum members as of last Friday, considering those that have more earned merits than posts (I disregarded airdropped Merits)

Thanks for the clarification. They really hadn't realized it that way. Wink

I was more interested to see the stat for Hero and Legendary users and as I expected it's not many. Out of many its only 17 (8+9) which gives a clear indication that this is a very hard ratio to chase.

True. The more time passes, the more posts a user has. And the more posts he has, the more difficult it is to keep the pace with having same number of earned merits.

Gazeta, [...]

Clearly the number of posts suppressed the merits for now. Are you up to make an interesting topic/posts for us to give you some more merits? 😉

Hehe Smiley If you want, you can take a look at what I consider to be my best topics here:

- The shameful Romanian translation of Bitcoin white paper from Bitcoin.org-FIXED! - from this topic I managed to change the existent Romanian translation from bitcoin.org (details within the posts from the end of the topic)
- Investigation about paraipan - 2020 edition - inside this topic I proved the truth about paraipan -- ex-forum treasurer / deceased -- the truth being that he did not steal forum funds. Many users tried to find the truth about him, but none succeeded. I am still trying to find the thief which stole paraipan's (forum's) coins.
- Bitcoin: The dream of Cypherpunks, libertarians and crypto-anarchists - my 1000th post
- The call for Julian Assange || The WikiLeaks Manifesto - We all should read it -- requiem for a Cypherpunk
- 12 years later and people still don't know to use Bitcoin nor what it's good for
- Governs are coming for the traders!
- Cryptocurrency vs digital money issued by the state
- The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto - We all should read it
- Governs try to limit access of public to information and freedom since ages
- Phil Zimmermann's thoughts about PGP - We all should read them
- When the govern wants to hold your private keys

Nevertheless, I will still try to bring valuable contributions to the forum and make more interesting topics / posts.

Whaaat? Are you sure some users aren't missing? If I sort by 'Merits received minus posts' (column G), I'm in place 6 after some absolute legends. Cheesy This can't be real, but it makes for a cool screenshot which I'll obviously save here! Wink

This was really quick. I did not expect it this fast.

I was more interested to see the stat for Hero and Legendary users and as I expected it's not many. Out of many its only 17 (8+9) which gives a clear indication that this is a very hard ratio to chase.

likely some of the top lower ranks have deleted a bunch of their posts (thus figuring high within their rank).
True indeed but at the same time it's funny if they really be interested to chase it even if this needs deleting some of the posts. It's exciting period for lower rank members.

Gazeta, you current numbers -

So you have unlocked some super powers where you have more merits then posts and activity way less than both of them?

I tried hard to bring valuable contributions to the forum, but it was not enough. So then I activated a special perk, named Merits Cycling Club Smiley

But still congratulations to you man and making your way on the forum over these years.

Thank you!

You are still moving strong https://prnt.sc/6wWOWAmJ2Puc (I am not sure if prnt.sc will keep the data forever)

Anyway, it's amazing!

Thank you, BitcoinGirl.Club!

But I do not think it's really possible to chase posts vs merit. Activity vs merit is fine but racing against posts is not possible all the time.

What you say is true, this is also why I am so happy for catching this once in a lifetime opportunity!  Roll Eyes

I could be wrong but it will be interesting to see some stats which will give a number of the users who have more merit than their corresponding post numbers. It will even be more interesting if we can see it group by the ranks we have.

I was curious about this for a long while now. Fortunately, we have DdmrDdmr here which, with his (non?) human powers presented the statistics Smiley

I make it 2003 forum members as of last Friday

Interesting... they are not many but, somehow, I thought they are even less. Regarding the ranks distribution, it's normal: the higher the rank gets, the harder is to have more merits than posts.

If I am allowed, I'd like to post here a screenshot (actually two screenshots) to remember the moment when I managed to have more merits than posts. This is, probably, a once in a lifetime moment, especially when the posts number becomes huge (let's say more than 1000). I don't know if I'll manage to keep this ratio in the future but, at least, I have my record saved here Smiley

I'll be back if and when my merit count hits 6666.  Might be a year or two, but that's my next milestone.
For you it might be the next milestone but there are some more pending records on your account as mentioned by @joker_jouse and in the meanwhile you will be helping many more members to save some nice record here in this thread. So hope your 5555 merit record is soon as you are 295 merits away from it and it won't take long for you to reach there.

So you have unlocked some super powers where you have more merits then posts and activity way less than both of them? At this time of writing you have 2513 merits and 2512 posts but it would have been great if they were equal so it would really be great if you somehow managed to get 2526 (based on 14 activity you will get next distribution cycle)

But still congratulations to you man and making your way on the forum over these years.

Thank you both, I appreciate it.  I try to do my best as a merit source.  It's not a paid position, but I believe in the system as a mechanism to curb shitposting and account farming and I believe it's helped significantly since 2018.  Helping worthy members (like both of you) to rank up is rewarding to me, and the gestures of gratitude are just a bonus.

But yeah, it'll be quite some time before I hit 10,000 merits.  The merit system has been around for over 4 years now if I've got my math right, and I'm just over halfway there.  That's OK, though.  I wouldn't mind if I never received another merit, ever.
I don't know who is the biggest merit source at the moment, but it looks like you had an upgrade from the initial Merit source status you used to be. Suchmoon seems to have toned down a bit from initial status. It will be interesting to see who will hit the 10K mark first after the "mighty bot" LoyceV  Grin

Congratulations to you on achieving this merit record and being junior member with registering on the forum just 39 days and having 222 merits is really appreciable and motivational for others.I am happy to see members like you growing fast on the forum and example for others who say it's hard to earn merits.

Just 14 merits left for senior member but you lag lot of activity for the same and if this pace continues you will see yourself on the list of fast growing members on the forum.
Congratulations to you mate for achieving 222 merits within one month and a few days for another user here in forum that's a big amount of merits to earn within a few days but you surpassed and easily reach. Looking at your merit history it's seems that you will be the part of WO threads an gain many merits there. Once again congratulations on your milestone and good luck for your journey keep it up.

Thanks.  If I wanted to rack up merits fast, I would stick to the technical forum; I am sometimes unpopular in the Wall Observer.  (And I abandoned this account for almost three weeks in May; it did not take 39 days of active posting to reach 222 merits.)

I prefer to stop using forum accounts when their rank gets too high.  Boring.  An account is ruined if it accidentally reaches Legendary rank, IMO.

I like the 222 number.  Wanted to record it.  Otherwise, I don’t much care about forum merits.  OTOH, I treasure the +50 merits that I received from an OG account for saying I think that the altcoin bounties section should be deleted, and paid signatures should be banned.  That shocked me, in a pleasant way; I want to print it out and hang it on my wall!  It means much to me, even though I’ve been friends with some CMs in the past.

Those who say it’s “hard to earn merits” need to stop focusing on the merit number, and start caring about doing something meritable.  The problem is analogous to incels who try to search for the secret of attracting women.  If you need an Internet guide on how to become more manipulative so that you can get laid, then you are a loser; you rightly deserve to be a desperate lifelong virgin.  If you are worried about your forum merits, then you deserve no merits; you will struggle for every merit.  If you are desirable and self-confident, then the rest follows naturally.

Care about Bitcoin, learn about Bitcoin, build your Bitcoin skills—live, eat, and breathe Bitcoin.  Be passionate about Bitcoin.  Soon, you will be swimming in merits—and you will not care, because you will be too busy caring about Bitcoin.

I just noticed your post, as I hadn't visited this thread in some time.  So you're the club leader now?  Damn, yo.  You deserve all the merits you've earned, but you've set such a high bar for anybody looking to dethrone the merit king.  Compared to you my merit count is shit!

I'll be back if and when my merit count hits 6666.  Might be a year or two, but that's my next milestone.

Edit:

Yes, The Pharmacist is a very generous merit source and he has proven it to me too to reach Legendary rank. I hope he is a worthy candidate in the 10K merit list this year or next year depending on the number of merit he manages to get. I'm sure sooner or later he will get there but now, I also congratulate him.
For sure he has helped many deserving members to reach their next rank and is still doing his job best but it will still take lot of time for him to reach that 10k club but he will surely reach there sooner or later and wish him all the best for it.
