If you are planing for long-term investments I suggest you can go with Ripple because you can hoard many coins because it has a lower price than litecoin. I tend to worry sometimes, isn't the idea of ripple being a centralized coin with the devs holding most part of it a worry for some of you who claim to be investing in ripple? Sure, everyone have their opinion and sure know what makes them tick about an investment, but for me, ripple is a wrong choice for the reason I have mentioned. 
I think Ripple should be better, Ripple is in the top three in terms of market capitalization, and there are many supporters. Litecoin has been in a downturn since it was dumped a lot last year. I think Ripple will have more potential in the future.
This is one of the reason why no one should be listening to everything in a forum or even asking for an opinion on a forum as you will get to see even those who know nothing about investment giving you theirs. OP should be making this decision on his own, and if he really wants to, he should do some research on the coins he wants to invest in as it is his money. Ripple is a mistake as far as I am concerned and it should not even be considered as a cryptocurrency but a centralized shit coin. Talking about future potential, there are so many coins and even tokens that stand a better chance that XRP. Litecoin is even far better off. If you are considering long term investment, ripple should be the least of the coins you should even be considering. Litecoin is still a very smart move on a coin you may want to be holding for a long term, but you should spread out. What happened to EOS, NEO, and the likes? I think that more sense will be from investing in Ripple than litecoin, because personally to me it seems more fundamental than the same litecoin.

choose more dominant litecoin to invest than the ripple. not without reason but because the ripple itself does not have a great opportunity or a great potential to make a big profit in the next few years. litecoin including the old crypto and until recently owned a very nice progression. I do not think I should invest in Ripple and Litecoin, but here I advise you to invest in Litecoin because this coin has decreased and now we can invest in Litecoin and earn profits and help pump this coin to return back and for my ripple a little less good
Decision is yours as you are the driver of your vehicle but if I would talk base on my personal understanding, I prefer litecoin to ripple x100 for the fact that ripple is a centralized stuff while decentralization is one of the reason crypto is around. Why would invest in that long term? Moreover, litecoin have being doing good for years in crypto market
The both coins are very solid investments with good partnerships I must say. It would be good to spread your investments over the two as the two can get you decent gains. This is my advice
