Don't self diagnose, it's bad.

When you're not an addict, you will search about signs of gambling addict and there are few signs that same like your habit, you will diagnose if you're an addict and vice versa. It's better for someone visit a doctor and ask them if you're an addict or not, so you will get a proper answer since they more know about your problem.

I think that a person who is more aware of his/her condition about gambling is less likely to be addicted on the said venture. Even if a person self-diagnoses, the fact that he/she thinks that he needs to do it is healthy for them.

I do think that a person who overthinks about their actions is less likely to fall into this addiction. While this somehow ruins the entertainment, this is the safer route given that lots of people fall and get addicted without them even knowing that they are addicted to gambling.

These signs suggest a healthy relationship with gambling and indicate that you are not addicted. What other signs do you know of?

What a long list! And yeah I agree to most of these list that you have right here, but it is too complex to identify someone who is a gambling addict. However, there is only one major sign that's obviously noticeable for a gambling addict. If a person excessively spends too much in gambling beyond his financial capacity and of course the frequency of the time he's present in the casino or in front of the computer betting in the online casino.
Some times you can't be stable, you can bet lesser today and you can bet more than usual on the other day.
Sometimes you need to chase for your losses, especially when you had an early momentum.
Sometimes you have to lie to your wife that you've lost some bucks in gambling (no wife will get happy when you spend and lost your money in gambling actually LOL).
But all these doesn't necessarily mean your addicted.

To be honest, i don't know if this thread will help us to recognize if we are addicts or not. however, I really appreciate what you did by creating this thread. from a long list that you compiled with a good and organized vocabulary, it might help people in the community to know if they are addicts based on the references in your long list.
by the way some of what you said in your long list, corresponds to what I do. only a few have differences. it's just that, I'm more inclined to do gambling sessions, maybe even 3 times a week according to the soccer sports schedule. some others say, that I am an addict. and I never cared what anyone else said. The thing is, I know what I'm doing in my gambling.

Well, simply put, I'm not going to have a gambling session until my job is done. even if I don't have free time. I will not steal time to gamble. Basically, I have principles. if everything that I do has been completed, especially those related to work matters, then I can do gambling sessions on the sidelines of the free time I have. Betting on sports, is what I enjoy the most. if I lose the day, I'll rest and maybe do it another day. the point is, I'm not going to force anything until my business is done before I've had fun with gambling.

  • Demonstrates Self-Control
You can go days without gambling because you have the will power and might to. You do not feel powerless and unable to control your desire to gamble.

I think even with this just sole sign or behavior, it is clear that the gambler is not addicted at all.  Compare to the definition of gambling addiction which is describe as uncontrollable urge to gamble, having self-control automatically nullify that uncontrollable urge thus the gambler can safely state as not addicted.

A gambler maybe preoccupied with gambling strategy he newly thought off but that is just the gambler being curious on his thought strategy but does not constitute that he is addicted in gambling.  Besides professional gambler which we all know is highly resistant to gambling addiction often plans their gambling activity before hand.

Yes, all these signs are accurate for someone who is not a gambling addict. What really affects some compulsive gamblers is the fact that most of them cannot manage their relationships very well; they are always having misunderstandings, probably because of their gambling habits. Someone told me a story one day about a man who took his wife's business money to gamble; his hope was to win the odds and replace the money without the wife knowing, but the game got busted, and he couldn't replace the money and did not even tell his wife that he was the person who took the money. These became very big issues between the two spouses.

I think you said almost everything about signs that indicate that one is not an addicted gambler. Anyone who doesn't see gambling as an occupation is likely a sign too.

Why to complicated? too long for the list.

One prove-point you're not addicted are: You're not deposit again, again and again until your money is empty (worst-case selling all of your stuff and going to debt) and don't have money for gambling again.

That's one points (really proven) you're not addicted to gamblin.

That's too much, the simple way to indicate someone isn't a gambling addict is gamble only for fun and afford to lose.

When a gambler think gambling is for fun, he know how much he need to gamble and not looking for making money, the gambling activity will not harm his life. Different people have different amount that he can afford to lose, even someone can't save his money and use it for gambling, it's not a problem as long as he follow that two rules.
That's a little on the nose but at the same time vague as well. When you gamble for fun it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not tanking losses at the same time even though your mental stability is relatively sound. Losing a significant amount of your bankroll or poorly managing your funds is the surefire way of knowing whether you're addicted or not. You could be "having fun while gambling" and yet you're playing everyday of the week and losing a year's worth of bankroll in a month, and you're considered an addicted gambler.

It's not about the motive or what because we can all have fun and still be deeply stuck in our vices. That's why there's Alcoholics. As I said it's not about the motive, it's about the behavior and how you carry your gambling.

I like to think that another sign of not being addicted to gambling in addition to what the OP has written is that the individual doesn't go bonus hunting. These bonus hunting may be sign up bonus, referral bonus and so on. Reading through the comments, I do not expect anyone to say they are lacking in any aspect because we tend to portray ourselves in a favourable light in public. However, what I can say is that not everyone will be a hundred percent in all of those signs and that is ok. We may have a moment of weakness here and there but that doesn't mean we are addicted. The most important we stay consistent.

I agree with you because I see myself in this case, apart from gambling for fun, I don't take gambling seriously so the money I used in gambling isn't something I consider as an expensive rather I see it as something I have used to enjoy myself so when I don't win, Iove on even when I win I don't get too happy because my mind won't really be there.

To be honest saving money and using it to gamble is crazy to me because how can you save to gamble when you aren't sure of winning how? It is only an addicted gambler that won't be mindful of the money he or she uses for gambling because they don't care they just want to gamble that's all.

If you don't think about gambling in your daily life, you simply aren't addicted to it. Same goes to smoking. I don't think about either of these habits but if someone offers me a cig, sometimes I take it and smoke it. That doesn't mean I am addicted to smoking because I don't buy packs unless I am really excited with something. - if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) -

I don't think about gambling but sometimes I just feel lucky and I want to see if I feel it right... That's about it.

Today, let's shift our focus and discuss something different instead of constantly addressing gambling addiction. So, I've decided to bring up a new topic: signs that indicate you are not addicted to gambling. Let's explore it.

Here are some indicators that demonstrate a lack of gambling addiction:

  • Absence of Gambling Preoccupation
Do you don't find yourself constantly thinking over recent gambling losses. You do not get lost daydreaming of past wins. Your day is not spent thinking about gambling, or constantly laying plans on your next bet. You do not schemes ways to get more money to gamble with.
  • Stable Tolerance
You do not need to gamble larger amounts to feel the same level of thrill.  You are satisfied with regular bets and low stakes.  You do not pursue bigger wins, higher stakes, high gambling risks to feel "high" or happy.
  • No Withdrawal Symptoms
When stop gambling, you do not feel restless or irritable. When you are not gambling, you are having feelings of depression or anxiety. For you gambling more like hobby, something you do for fun.
  • Non-Escape Mechanism
You are facing your problems and challenges head-on without turning to gambling forget about them. When you experience stress, or any negative emotions, gambling is not used as a mechanism for coping.
  • Lack of Loss Chasing
When you lose, you do not attempt to bet more and more, with the mindset of winning back what you’ve lost. Rather you "leave" to bet another day.
  • Honest and Accountable Behavior
You are opened about your gambling behaviour and how much you have either won or lost while gambling. You see no reason to lie about it. Your family and friends know about how you gamble because you have made accountable to it.
  • Unaffected Relationships and Opportunities
Your life, career, relationships are in order. They are not being negatively affected by your gambling habits. You met you work target and deadlines, your education is not neglected, and you haven't lost any financial opportunities as a result of gambling.
  • Financial Independence
You have not ran into debts because of your gambling. Neither do you rely on other people for financial support. You haven't engaged in any illegal activity to get money to support your gambling.
  • Avoidance of Illegal Activities
You have never considered partaking in illegal actions like theft or fraud to finance your gambling activity.
  • Demonstrates Self-Control
You can go days without gambling because you have the will power and might to. You do not feel powerless and unable to control your desire to gamble.

These signs suggest a healthy relationship with gambling and indicate that you are not addicted. What other signs do you know of?

If I did a check list of these options,I have all of them and this makes me think that I am not addicted.I think that these are a lot though, the best of all the signs is when you do not need the play when you have losing sessions,be it in slot machines be it in sport betting, you don't feel the need to come back and recover all of the lost funds.

Of course people who play with funds that they can afford to lose and do not overdo it those are the ones who have the highest identifying sign that they are not addicted, they are playing just for fun and they are not dependent on gambling even if they lose the money, they don't come chasing it,they wait until they have new funds that they can afford to lose to play again.

In conclusion I would say those who have great self control of their emotion and money are not addicted.
Once a gambler can control their emotion and money management will have all the signs you wrote in the OP.
What would be the other signs, I think all other signs has been mentioned by other members before my post so I dont want to repeat it.

This two reasons covers all the other signs if you look at it with in a general sense because if the gambler has control of their money and emotions he would not be a victim of wanting to chase his loss while gambling because this habit is caused when your emotions is really up and you are not thinking straight again. Then again if the gambler can control his funds it will still relate to the issue of self tolerance because he will be satisfied with betting with low income.

This point is associated with people that see gambling as a full-time job. So they are always preoccupied with their past gambling activities and they are also planning on their next gambling move. But when one sees gambling as a form of entertainment, there is no room for spending time reasoning about gambling.

Any bettor that has a gambling plan and fully follows it will not be addicted to gambling. But any gambler that is driven by emotion or an uncontrollable influence is under addiction. Higher stakes don't give a stable gambler satisfaction because he is guided by a plan. He is satisfied when he has to his gambling limits.

    • Non-Escape Mechanism
You are facing your problems and challenges head-on without turning to gambling forget about them. When you experience stress, or any negative emotions, gambling is not used as a mechanism for coping.
This is similar to drug addiction. Depending on gambling to escape current realities will lead to core addiction. Every mature gambler should learn how to face his problems or difficulties without relying on something else. This is one of the major reasons why some gamblers suffer from financial problems.

I will disagree with you on this point. In some homes or families gambling is seen as an immoral behavior. So becomes important for you to keep your gambling life secret. My family and friends don't know much about my betting life because it can be misinterpreted. I am accountable to myself and nobody else. But it is important to be truthful to yourself. [/list]

In fact, it is quite easy to see the signs that a person is not gambling addicted enough to see from the activity that rarely goes to gambling and if he occasionally goes into gambling he always bets with the smallest amount without increasing the amount of bets such as gambling responsibly.
Gamblers who don’t have signs of their addiction will value money more or always think twice every time they want to gamble.

Bet size is not a sign of irresponsible gambling since it’s just a way to increase your leverage  for a better profit or to recover lose. I’m sure you are familiar about the house edge that makes you lose in long term if you will play consistently without changing your bet size. Increasing bet size will only become a sign of gambling addiction if the player percentage increased is already significant percentage of his bankroll that can’t be recovered when he increase his initial bet.

I always increase my bet whenever I’m on 5 to 10 lose streak so that I can recover and earn profit at the same time when the win streak comes unlike if you continuosly bet same amount. You just need to learn proper bet size allocation to have a better experience bet increase.

I agree with what the OP said, even though not all of these categories are in me, but indeed some of them are like financial independence, responsibility, no withdrawal symptoms, these are complementary to what I experienced today, and the most basic according to My opinion is when we realize how to treat gambling properly, someone who has that awareness is an early symptom that he is not an addict in gambling.

Identifying whether we are a gambling addict or not can actually be done by ourselves, as long as we can be in a calm state and are willing to self-introspect. But usually an addict will not want to say that he is an addict, because maybe they also realize that there are negative connotations in the word addiction.
We can realize that we are an addict if we are doing something that should be done, for example spending time gambling when there is work that has not been completed and so on. The points made by Op are also criteria where we are not categorized as addicts, but don't let it happen that when we feel we are not addicts we actually do things that go beyond the limit.
I know that person, he is my friend, who does gambling where work or other things that he should do first are completed, instead choosing to take the time to do gambling, but he says that he does not feel like a gambling addict, and what he did what I noticed was excessive, so he used the money from selling his own motorbike, saying if I won I would buy a motorbike twice as luxurious as the one he was selling for capital in gambling.

I also need to add the fact that I usually take vacations from gambling and only make one bet per day at most and only if there is a game that is worth placing a bet on, another point that should not be confused: spending a lot hours thinking about some game strategy or seeing the mistakes that led to the defeat in a bet as a sign that the person is addicted to gambling, this is not true. a professional bettor or a person who wants to get good results needs to be constantly analyzing the data, this includes analyzing the game in which he lost in order to see where he went wrong or as part of a study to create a good strategy
Addiction is when someone is devoted to something and it's obvious from your narration that you're on your way to addiction gradually. If you can at least bet on a daily basis or four times in a week then it's a red flag already. No one become addictive in a single moment, it has to pass stage from stage until they become core gambler addicted. You are on a mini stage of addiction which if not quickly check will eventually grow into full stage of addiction.

If you can stay up to a week or two without gambling or thinking about it while you have the means to, you are fine then but if you can dedicate time for it daily despite having the signs listed in the original post, then you are secretly and unknowingly addicted. It doesn't matter either you're gambling with little or larger amount.

I personally have played and seen other people gamble already from the early age of 14 years. Starting from card gambling, lottery and now online gambling such as slots and so on.
This made me accustomed to the world of gambling but did not make me a gambling addict. When other people think that hanging out with gambling addicts will make someone a gambling addict too. Maybe some people think so, but what I feel when associating with gamblers I can know how regretful it is when you experience defeat and suffering that result from the negative effects of playing gambling.

So by knowing and seeing firsthand how the negative impacts that result from gambling can make me a gambling player who can control myself to play gambling properly and play only when I have cold money / extra money to avoid the negative effects of gambling.

And some of the signs you mentioned are in me, so I can say that I am not a gambling addict.
