Guys, i made a small fortune in altcoin/bitcoin. In which country should i settle ?
I have no wife, no kids, just a girlfriend, i´m free to go wherever i want (she´ll go with me).
But it has to be a bitcoin-friendly country.
I have no intention to buy lambos, just a peaceful life.
Thanks.

Oh, and my age is 53, that makes a difference too.

Well you can head to Japan, it's legal out there. It has rich heritage culture, plus it's a good tourist place if you can set up some business. Honestly you are a lucky guy, at the age of 53 a girlfriend, some of us are yet struggling to get their first lol and others are yet waiting for their first Bitcoins 😁. Well I feel Japan should suit all your needs, it's technology, it's adaptable to global technology so I feel you will do good there. Good luck with your future life and I am sure many will. Be jealous of your story.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the cost of living may increase over time as the countries get wealthier.

The same happened in the spanish islands. A lot of germans retired there (e.g. Mallorca), but after 20 years, the islands caught up to the main land in terms of daily cost of living. The result was that a lot of these retirees got financial problems, had to sell their houses and move back to germany and a small appartment.

That is something you want to avoid I guess.

You´re thinking forward, i like that. It´ll be a no name island, definitely. Slightly rougher sand on the beach, but peace !

Oh, one thing i learned: never settle on a small island, i got my fair share of power outs, and water shortages . . .

Exactly that happened to me, i got on one of the most sought after islands (for business) in asia, and i don´t know why i should pay tourist-prices everywhere i go ! In Retirement.

Canada is good. They welcome everyone, and if you really need to take a quick short trip you can probably go to the United States. You still need to apply for permanent residence if you intend to stay longer than 6 months.
Canada is the best. They legalized mostly every positive thing on this planet such as supporting weed, cannabis for both medical and entertainment. Bitcoin will be the next revolution in this country
Yes canada is one of the best country because of the positive things that you may find to their country and they almost positive for the every potential that you can propose to the government. I think it is possible for the bitcoin to be accepted or legalized in canada also or soon it will be accepted by mostly stores or any shop there.

Before you settle in somewhere, you should know the place. Visit it a few times, interact with locals, see if you re happy there.

If you want a peaceful and easy going life, I would suggest a Greek island. Not the famous/big ones, there are around 200 inhabited islands in Greece. Also, property prices are very low now because of the crisis and people speak English well. You won't have to learn Greek!

If you need more info let me know Smiley

I won't recommend any country for you mate, since is has been mentioned above by several posters. I just wish you luck you find the right country that you are looking for and live the life you and your fiancee have been dreaming of. And yeah, just keep us posted and maybe you can meet other bitcoiners on the country that you are going to settle.

It will be a lot of choice because there are many people here. But I believe that the place I am staying at this time is the best place. The best thing is to live in the country where you were born and also where your ancestors are. It's the hometown that always makes everyone want to come back. You do not need another place, you just have to stay where you are born.

You´re so right, god (whichever) bless you. but i have no family to speak of,, and of all negatives that may endure, i´m free ! I said, i´m 53, but that may be a game changer as well.

I think the country is not your main issue. The main issue is how to transfer your BTC into legal flows without paying too much taxes or answering too much questions. After that it s just a question of finding the best combination of warm beach, good health services and safe country.

So glad to hear these success stories, please keep us posted what s your decision.

What about Switzerland, after all?

Yes, it may be expensive somewhat but if you want a peaceful life (a really peaceful one with no bodyguards, gated communities and similar shit), that would be an ideal place with top-notch healthcare, friendly people (Asians will despise you anyway if you are not one of them), working laws, and clean environment. If you settle in a small town or village and manage to make friends with people around you, I guess you can substantially lower your expenses and save a lot on the unnecessary things like those mentioned in parentheses above. It may help to add a poll to the thread as well

I'd say New Zealand, or some peaceful country in the Europe would be your best choices. Calm life, not much hassle, quite a bit of freedom and they are bitcoin friendly as well.
Do share with us where which one you choose eventually.

New Zealand is the country which promised to shelter Kim Dotcom in return for $10 million in funds, right? So that country may be a good choice. But the tax rates (both income tax and capital gains tax) are a bit on the higher side.

Italy or Spain. The weather is good. Europe in general is Bitcoin friendly.
If you retire to the country side, you can lead a peaceful life.
Good luck finding a place to stay in Spain,it is bloody expensive and it is not that easy to find a home to stay and even if you plan on staying at a rented house it will take time to get a good place to crash and even getting a bed space is considered a lucky and i do have a bad experience finding a place being an expat.

I suggest you to go to Japan, because they have already accepted bitcoin as a currency on their country. But I could say that all of the countries around the world do know about bitcoin, it's just that not all of them already did what Japan did to bitcoin.
Japan is yet another country which is bloody expensive and he really wants a peaceful calm life but it is really difficult to get that in Japan with my experience.

I would suggest Dubai is a good place for expats ,no tax nothing, unlike other Arab countries you have your freedom and it is a spectacle ,it is expensive but you could manage to find a budget home and so is the case with Switzerland, which i personally liked the place but did not stay long and Canada is also a place where you could find good counties with large farms where you can spend your retirement life. Why not Bulgaria or Romania.Everything is cheap, the countries are bitcoin-friendly.
It`s relatively close to western Europe capital cities like Rome or Paris.

At Dabs,

Please don't advertise how cheapstake it is here in the Philippines.
There's too much of this foreigners in here already who exploit this country.
And yes, the other poster is almost correct in his thinking that this country is like Thailand.

I would live about 1 year on rented property, before i would decide !
How about in Bali, Indonesia? This city is bitcoin friendly and there are many visitors from various countries, mostly you can use English. If you want to stay for a while, then this is a good destination. You said that you are in Southeast Asia, is it this country?
