Bitcoin is the biggest social experiment that exists hands down. It started between two peers and now there is a huge network of millions of people all over the world and they're all agreeing on the state of the ledger every 10 minutes. The ledger is the blockchain of course. So this is amazing that people keep agreeing on consensus rules without knowing the other person.

If people who are asked during a social experiment about Bitcoin, they will choose their local currency if they are not aware of Bitcoin. If yes, if he is aware of Bitcoin then he must choose Bitcoin.

In my country the chances of someone saying a bitcoin is about 70% in my opinion.
The popularity of the digital currencies is up and rising, but it will take some time for all of the popularity to really understand it and how "big" it is.

I don't think that deriving bitcoin awareness percentage from such video is right...The content shown in such videos are edited and biased shown only to gain popularity. I agree most of the people does not know about Bitcoin but at least 4-5% of the population has definitely heard about it and know its value.
Either this video is biased or it might be shot in some backward rural area of US

Not exactly a normal poll or study.  Even though a lot of people may have said a dollar, they could easily edit it to show almost everyone saying that if it's just a YouTube video.

Personally, instead of trying to make my point this way, I would ask people three questions:

1. Do you know what the value of 1 BTC is?
2. Do you believe that the value of BTC is justified?
2. Are you aware of how to buy and sell BTC?

Which would result in a similar understanding of the general public's knowledge about BTC, without the sensationalism.

Totally agree with you.

Rather than giving people the option of choosing one currency or another, is better to teach them about cryptocoins in the way you're proposing...

I might do this in my country...

teaching bitcoin how the importance in crypto are best way to choose people bitcoin become interesting for them to hug this new digital currency than the other currency being most expensive profitable investment. and show them the advatange of bitcoin among the rest currency.

I just watched a video on my social media about guys running a social experiment about Bitcoin in their country (USA), and they questioned strangers that they chose, this "Would you rather have 1 Bitcoin or 1 dollar?" and almost all of the people they questioned chose 1 dollar. Only 1 person in all the person they interviewed chose 1 bitcoin. This just proves that there still a lot of us who don't have a clue about digital currency. If I would do this in my country, I'm sure that no one will choose bitcoin over our local currency. What about in your country if you run this social experiment?
I don't know what will be the result in our country, because I don't want to conclude without knowing other factors. It is true that bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies are not popular nowadays especially to those who are ordinary people and rarely access the internet. I have met other fellas in my country that is familiar in bitcoin and uses it, I have classmates who also know bitcoin and I have shared it with others as clear as I can. But I know it is not enough to make the percentage of the number of people who uses bitcoin go bigger here in my country.

In my country even professors of economy have a vague knowledge about what Bitcoin. I heard one saying on TV a few months ago that in the market there are only 1 million bitcoins or 1.5 milion.  Shocked A massive adoption will happen, but for the time being the pace is slow. The good news is that people who have bitcoins now, will have an advantge in 5-10 years.

I would certainly get thesame result here.
Would partly blame bad publicity and people's lack of interest in researching for facts.
Most people on the planet are Conformists. They would follow what everyone else follows. Very few will research. Research takes a lot of time and effort.

Mostly agree but would not blame anyone. I think BTC is like a phenomenon of a special type. There are some people who initially saw something promising in the system... well even felt something promising. In some time for them this system began to prove itself as alive i.e with implemented ability for real development, where term "real" means the ability to create non-similar in external manifestation or unrelated structures or appearance. To make it simple: there would be no Ethereum if there was no BTC but they look different.
Still there is one more aspect, most interesting for me. BTC and all this living system of crypto is a system that is lvl higher than existing fiat system. As existing fiat system is lvl higher than gold standard system etc. So it is doubtfully that everyone will simply understand it, like some people never entered burning demon with petroleum smell. Just today people who are interested in everything new, people who are ready to use full implemented system in first lines, people who always use what majority use and people who are perceive everything new as a threat they are all living in different countries in different proportions. Also BTC in a very sharp manner raised questions about the difference in the political social and economic structural components of modern systems. For example BTC (or other) can possibly draw back solid part of national tax income (for some countries) or become a system of total financial control in the hands of... well I do not know... klingons? Smiley

Here is the point: cryptocurrency is not a technical phenomenon but an implementation of monetary system on the next level. It will inhale nearly all the values and functions of fiat system. Many people don not know about BTC but who cares?

I think the result will be the same as you watch. so I think it's basically just community and groups who prefer bitcoin, and that too will never leave their local currency. because most of our goals here are the same. to increase profits and can exchange them for local money.

Nothing special about it.
Most people are ignorant and you should always understand that talking about how great bitcoin is here, is like preaching to the choir.
Once you leave the church you're surrounded by infidels Smiley)

Oh, and please share the video.

If I would do the same experiment in my city I would probably not meet a single one that would take the bitcoin, and it's more probable I would get my ass kicked by someone who would understand buttrub instead of bitcoin.
After all I saw some experiments where people said that moon is larger than the sun, the bible was written by the pope and so on....

I doubt we would reach a level where 1% of the world population knows what bitcoin is and how it works by the end of the year

I agree and this is the sad truth. All we can do is inform as many people as we can and exlain it to them as broadly as possible.
If ever i'd do this kind of experiment, here in my town, there would probably be about 8 people that would know what to answer. And those people are people that i have told about btc.

If I were to do the same social experiment in my area or country, They would definitely choose our local currency over Bitcoin. I know for a fact that in my area, there is just the three of us who really know what bitcoin is, so this would be a good way to spread awareness about bitcoin in my place.

There were only three of you who really knows bitcoins in you area? That's Impossible you just did not know there were people who don't talk too much what they had know. At first I also thought that there were only three of us knows bitcoin among friends however when I talk about it to some of my friends they said that many of our common friends were member of this forum and knew bitcoin.

Proofs will speaks for any product or service in this world. We need to be promote and spread about the bitcoin. Then every people have thought that bitcoin is the best part income and technical currency evalution. If the knowledge completely shared about the bitcoin then it will reach upto laymen. Try to use the article links and Youtube videos to share about it.

Well clearly if you made an experiment here in our country  then the result will still be the same apparently if they were to choose a bills here in the Philippines then they will choose the bills over the bitcoin. It just proves them they are unaware  of the value of bitcoin and the cryptocurrency here in the world.
