I am surprised by the willingness of people to colonize other planets. Would it not be better to extend the life on our beautiful planet earth? What is the point to live in inhuman conditions on Mars and destroy the earth.

The problem is that our planet is divided into more than 200 countries. Some of these countries may be interested in preserving the planet, while the others may be against that idea. So what are you going to do? Invade those countries which doesn't agree?
To invade a country is not a good way. I think the best option is the economic blockade. To live in a global world, isolation is not possible. Just need a good control of the embargo and the economy will collapse.

Economic blockades and embargoes does not work against stronger nations. For example, the worst polluters in the world include countries such as Saudi Arabia and China. Who is going to impose sanctions against these nations?

Or russia  Grin

Collapsing economy describes it pretty well haha

Btw. You can create a artificial magnetosphere on mars. Just cost money.

There are places on mars that have a strong enough magnetic field to be safe against radiation.
( where you could live in the early phase of colonisation)

I think there are much better projects, like underwater cities and moon bases. Mars is distant, has not many interesting resources and transporting them to Earth is too expensive.
I don't know why mars project makes some people wet their pants. The whole idea of martians and us living there is a fiction, created for the masses.

Because Mars has essential elements such as C, N, H, and a lot of H20.  The Moon does not, or has these only in deep craters near the poles.  These are the elements that make and support life itself.

If it is too expensive, local governments must do this kind of project, so we can have a new planet, or new space to live on. We cannot predict when will be our Mother Earth last. we see a lot of effects of global warming, a lot of changes in weather, some mountains are pre occupied and other effects due to climate change. We all know that our earth is almost occupied by people, what if on the future? Where our next generation of family will live?

I'm sure they've thought it out, lol.
No, that has no meaning.  There is nothing to "think out."  There is no solution to the lack of a magnetosphere.

What is implied is perhaps the prospects for "Mars colonization" have been grossly overpromised and oversold.
Any colonization of Mars will not. This planet is not fit for human life. It seems to me that all the stories about the colonization of the planets is a cover attempts to move the arms race into space.

Although humans could create, basically, buried caves to live in that had breathable air and a decent temperature, growing plants and/or animals would be extremely difficult.

Let me know when you figure out how to raise cattle on Mars.  Because I think anyone who goes to the trouble to go live there is entitled to ribeye steaks, medium rare.   Served with wine.  Also, regarding colonizing Mars, don't forget beer.  If you don't have beer, forget it.

Wow dude you should work for SpaceX you seem to have it all figured out, I'm sure you could save them a lot of time and money!

Gravity is 2/3, that is irrelevant.

But lack of magnetosphere will prevent terraforming to get an atmosphere that will last more than 10,000 years or so.

Gravity on mars is less than half earth gravity.

 Smiley

Astronauts on mars will lose bone density the longer they stay. If they return to earth, their bones will be more brittle. There are other cardiovascular issues associated with decreased gravity over prolonged periods of time that are known from astronauts spending extended periods in the international space station.

Plants will grow better or worse, root systems evolved for earth's gravity, mars will be a very different environment.

I'm sure they've thought it out, lol.

You might think they're scientists, they're smart. They have answers and solutions for these problems. But they really don't.

I'm not certain if mars is habitable due to it having less than half of earth's gravity.

Lack of magnetosphere -- mars may never be able to support an atmosphere.

Radiation levels on the surface are much higher.

Elon Musk is right, it is important for humans to become a multi planetary species.

With mars there are still many significant technical and scientific obstacles to overcome.

Personally, this is just a waste of time and money. Although, this type of dream/enterprise has the potential to create new inventions and technology that can help mankind here on Earth, I think that we should instead focus more of our resources in preserving a life-supporting planet -- the only one so far -- in the entire universe and that is the Earth.

I disagree, the nature of human is curious about what they dont know, and keep making something new to make their life better and easy. So sooner or later, human will explore the universe, and earth which the place of first human born will be just fairy tale in the so so distant future. Human is like giant cockroack Cheesy

I agree with you.
We have so much problems to solve here on the Earth like poverty, hunger, wars etc.
Can you imagine if we, instead of spending billions of $ in space program, invest this money in Africa, and help the poor people there?
What is the meaning to send a few people to Mars?
The question is also how they will survive such a trip because of radiation, bone loss and other problems?
What they can achieve there realistically?
Nothing.

Prospects of Mars colonization can be the one of the most needed to be study. We cannot say that the earth can lasts longer, there is a global warming what they are saying, a lot of tragedy can happen. When will our mother earth be lasts? What are our future needs? We need one planet to be reserved, where, we citizens can live.

There are other option, such as "ONeill colonies" at the L4 and L4 orbital position in the Moon's orbit.  These could be built with material from the Moon.

They could reach self sufficiency much quicker than a Mars colony.

This is very true. But I have to say that this still needs to be balanced out with all the other concerns. We should never compromise the present chasing for the future. There are urgent issues that are really needed to be addressed immediately and the government should also take care of this whilst going for the exploration as well.
