Wow guys. Can't believe my Sox are still in it, I actually bet on their final season game, but thought the Wild Card day would be one step too far -- and then last night happened.

Feel sorry for Cole, just got rushed, allowed 2 early home runs and that practically sealed the game.

Bosox 6 - 1 Yankees and my early outright @52 taken 6 months ago suddenly looks so much better now.

Yeah they pounced on Cole early.  That 52x er is definately a nice play.  They pretty much are facing one of the best now in the rays.  If they get by the rays good chance at the series.  Still think the dodgers or San Fran are the teams to beat.  Those 2 teams are seriously stacked with ballers.  Dodgers have to get by st Louis tonight but if they do the dodgers San Fran series will be the series to watch.

Sorry bud, can't say that I was real upset seeing the Red Sox take out the Bronx Bombers.  May have something to do with suffering for 108 years and seeing that other "pinstriped team" always winning.  Now if the Cardinals could just some how give up this game tonight I'd be REALLY happy!

Looks like I'll be watching the remainder of the MLB playoffs from the sidelines...

@buwaytress, that's a nice future ticket to be holding

Unpopular ... where? Wink
Come on, there are sports that only need fans and in the United States there are them for any type of sport, whether the rest of the world follows them or not, they really don't care.

In particular, MLB Baseball is a special, rare, nostalgic, family, generational sport, it must be that unique sport where sometimes you follow it because yes, even if you don't like it ... but something in your childhood due to influence " familiar "or" moment "leads you to follow a certain team.

I have to say that definitely betting 6 months in advance is the best example of the difference between fan and gambler.

I started an MLB thread but couldn’t seem to get much traction with it which I guess goes to show how unpopular baseball is worldwide and how other sports such as football are becoming even more popular worldwide while baseball falls to the wayside. That said, looking forward to the elimination game between Boston and New York, doesn’t get much better than that. Also as a Cubs fan I’ll be rooting for anyone facing the Cardinals..hopefully they won’t last long lol
The sport is not really as popular as it once was, however another factor is that the season is too long and the number of games to watch is huge, I like baseball but I watch the occasional game here and there during the regular season and only follow the playoffs, as this is the moment when the best and more meaningful baseball is played in which one loss makes a huge difference, while during the regular season yet another loss means nothing.

Yeah as a yankee fan this is the mecca of the season.  A one game playing against the Sox in their house.  Although nerve racking its like an immediate game 7 from the jump.  Hopefully the yanks come out quick.  8pm EST coming soon, #squadup!!

Well, not a lot of people were really introduced to it especially baseball needs a pretty big area to play in, unlike football or basketball that doesn't need a lot of space to play in as they can easily adjust together with it's players.

Well, Yankees and Sox done it. Fenway Park beckons for one more game to earn the right to continue. It feels weird for me to be following without actually watching, but I put some money on Sox last night, and going to put it all down again on them going through against Yankees.

Playoffs are tough. Lose and your whole year end is miserable.

But spare a thought for Blue Jays, who made it 91 wins and still failed to make the cut.

Happy Wildcard Day!

Welp, my Yankees future tickets @ 6.36 and 8.19 suddenly aren't looking as attractive given the current odds:

I'm on the Yankees tonight @ 1.84 (With Super Boost) to beat the BoSox and advance to the ALDS.

So, favours all done and dusted, and final game of the season, BoSox already pulled off 2 of the minimum victories they needed and are now tied with Yankees for the top wildcard spot. I guess they couldn't have asked for it any better than this in the end?

@jeremypwr looks like both our picks are headed for the tiebreaker.

My favourite read so far here.

So, we now arrive at the final stretch of the season and BoSox really want to play more games, don't they? Expected to win easily, they now lost twice badly to Orioles. This guy Mountcastle should now be a lifelong fan of Red Sox haha.

Amazingly, this has resulted in a possibility for a 4-way tie, which apparently, is a sort of rarity in baseball end-of-season.

4-way tie possible if in the last 3 matches: Yankees 0-3; Red Sox 2-1, Mariners 2-1, Blue Jays 3-0. Yankees losing everything, yeah right huh?

Last thing I want is a two-way tie for 1st wild card, though, as then it's Yankees BoSox at Fenway, and they currently cannot win.

I mean they are playing the right teams to make it in but the yanks are 1 game up on them with 6 to go and the Bluejays are 1 below them.  The good part is yanks and Jay's are playing a 3 game set so someone always has to.lose.  I'd say if the Sox go at least 3-3 over the next 6 they "should" be good outside of a huge run by seatle/oakland.  Ylu won't really find a good path right now since there are so many things up in the air.  The last 3 games of the year it should be a lot clearer.

Guess I really wasn't kidding when I said BoSox might be purging out all their losses so they can rule in the playoffs -- lost badly to Orioles, now if they lose again that 3-3 suddenly looks in jeopardy, but yeah, I suppose they know the numbers and so do everyone else. Are teams generally likely to play by those numbers and "throw" games once they know where they're at? To try and get the teams they want in positions they want, I mean.

We'll check back with 3 games left. Thanks!

Yeah it's going to be a tight finish pretty much yanks/sox/Jay's for 2 spots (Seattle and Oakland are in it too).  Yanks and Jay's series will be a very telling series, probably will determine one of the slots.  Yanks finish against the rays so Yanks have the toughest road.  Gonna be an interesting finish.

I'm still coming to grips with baseball or MLB rather, but this is my first season trying to follow and it's quite difficult to find a source with a path to the end, but yeah, seems everyone thinks more or less BoSox will still get one of the slots, so are qualifying the expected route. I suppose 50/1+ odds on them outright was there for a reason! Series for them in Baltimore starts in about 15 hours, I'll of course be catching up when I wake up, some hours after.

@OgNasty Saw this late but well, I do get the sport in moments like these.

Not sure I fully understand the season end but my BoSox outright looks in danger now after they lost all 3 games to Yankees, only a handful of games left to determine if their wild card chase ends well but they've been disastrous since July. Should still make it as it's just Orioles and Nationals to cap off the season, but they'll need Blue Jays to do them a favour against Yankees (right?).

Anybody else catch that walk off home run into the corn field at the field of dreams to get the White Sox the victory over the Yankees? Wow, what a moment. If you missed it, check out the news for a clip of not only the walk off home run into the corn to end the game, but also the pregame speech from Kevin Costner.

After trailing in second in AL East for a while, BoSox have now reclaimed 1st spot at the halfway point. Feeling pretty good, reading a bit about baseball when I can and still can't make much out of the game reports but they're super aggressive it seems, and it's improved their record both home and away. If they keep this up, it'll be hard to see anyone breathe in the same space. Outrights on World Series aren't available anymore but they're distinct favs to top AL East and 6/1 to win AL.

Not so good for the Yankees, huh mr power... whose candidates for starring roles seem to be having the worst season. But I think they just need to string together a few good games, or... rebuild? I feel like in baseball, for some teams at least, they really don't like doing that.

Reads like these are a gem: https://yanksgoyard.com/2021/06/28/yankees-cosmically-broken-torres-frazier/
