Ha, I'm hoping Tsitsi goes down today that would be great. Grin Grin

I have been watching the game for a couple of minutes and I seriously can't even recognize Tsitsipas. I know that surface makes a difference, but that it can turn a player into a completely different player is difficult to grasp. Maybe he is gearing up his game now but so far it was the Tsitsipas on grass that most of us expected.

Ya I been seeing he hasn't been in the best form as of late that's why I picked him not to win the tourney. But who knows maybe he turns it around.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Tsitsipas is a great example that whenever you want to place a bet in a tennis game, checking the ATP ranking is not enough! Cheesy But BSFL taught me to pay attention to details here. He isn't worth a bet almost ever.

Lol poor me at the very least, I have a cause to support the tennis question given since I've already lost a point in the league and am hoping to win some money for beer on the same question now.

Cerundalo you have my support now you bitch !

Reading what Trofo and cryptofrka wrote just confirms that they indeed are the right duo to run this competition. I have nothing to say against their decision because they seem fair to me.

As for the change of the answers, I agree with what cryptofrka suggested. It wouldn't be fair that we can change answers all the time. But three times in a season is good enough to cover problems with questions like this one.

I honestly have no complaints about anything, I like the way it is because it makes it harder. Be confident in your answers and get it cracking guys.  Grin Grin Grin

Tennis keeps shitting on our heads, eh?
Too important to leave out, really difficult to make questions 2 days in advance.

Regarding the changes to your answers - it would bring a massive amount of extra work. Right now you think you'd change it only when something like this happens, but if you had the opportunity you'd change 3 picks in every round just because you're insecure.

Maybe we can implement a system in which you get 3 changes per season - meaning that you can change one of the picks 3 times before the deadline.
It would be semi-fair, because in a question like this everybody would change, and the people that are left without changes would remain with incorrect picks.
Still, it's the same in tennis with Hawkeye - if you used all your challenges it doesn't matter anymore whether the ball's in or out - you cannot challenge it.

What do you think of such a system? Changes would have to be sent through PM to both of us.

Another thing I wanted to clarify, not sure if already: what if we're trying to submit answers in the final hour and Googledocs is down or sheet is inaccessible? Fair rules probably say you would be allowed to give an answer, but probably to send an answer in PM to Cro2? Failure to submit should be ruthless, right? No excuses for "no internet" and all that? Could be useful to figure out some additional rules on deadlines.

If that happens, just post in the thread or send a DM. Don't wait for last seconds though Grin

I have two suggestions for next season. I'm wondering what your opinions are about these:

1) In case of there is a tie for free bet, the one who sent their prediction before is announced as the winner. (This can be applied for this season.)
2) In case of there are 7 or more similar answers in 10 questions, penalty questions are asked just as it is done in the cup. (Even if there is no tie these questions can be considered.)

The first proposal is interesting, and if this rule was already implemented, I could have won my free bet over the lucky bastard buwatress in round 2 because I submitted my answers before him. And I agreed with Trofo on the second one: this is not a basketball game where there is no draw; this is a real-life league game, and there must be a draw.

Your first suggestion is interesting one, we will think about that. I like it since it offsets less info problem a little.

Your second suggestion will not get implemented. We like to have draws in league. Just like real leagues have draws. Nothing wrong with that.

@Trofo I'll ping again when Iron Man finals are around near September, but also only if I can help figure out a useful way to make questions. I also really like casperBGD's Tour de France (I don't know shit about it but everyone remembers the famous Armstrong doping scandal), and that's probably easier to quiz.

Tour de France is just one of the three circuits leading to the World race (not sure what it's called). The aim is for a treble of Italia, de France, World titles. Could have all 3 if we have some super cyclist nerd (any Dutch guys in BSFL?).

Tennis question made me think (and I actually thought about it before last season but am reminded about it) -- could it be worth allowing a system in future where you can submit picks, and still change them before deadline?

It seems the fairest that someone who put picks in early shouldn't be penalised if something happens on the final day of submission, or are we deliberately asking people to submit as late as possible? The reminders suggest that we prefer people putting picks in well ahead of time (Georgia was why I submitted late, and it proved to be a helpful point), but then if we can't change answers, of course, we want to post as late as possible.

I can't remember but the Tsitsi question didn't have him winning without dropping a single set, did it? I know he's not Djoko but... Wink

I thought Cerundolo would have been counted as the winner directly as De Minaur didn't even make it to the tournament

Yeah I thought it would be this as well

@jayce : damn leading 2 points right away. Well you know international games are not really my virtue but spare me some points this week otherwise I will be doomed  Tongue. 4 Questions left with different answers for us so yeah technically I still have good chance to turn this around but honestly Im not sure with my remaining answers

@Trofo @Cryptofrka, I’m very sorry for being late on answering the spreadsheet. I was away since Sunday because we have construction for our new office building. I was busy on permits and the initial construction design before I turn it over to my main contructor that will finish the work. If my answer is still allowed, Please ignore my answer to 1,2 &5 since the result is already out. I’ve just fill it out since the form doesn’t allowed blank answer on any questionnaire. Sorry for inconvenience everyone.

De Minaur was in the draw and seeded on Sunday. I don't know if he left on Monday or later. If you google De Minaur Eastbourne you will still get hits on google even though actual pages where links lead have him replaced with Jarry. That is moot point anyway, we don't have a habit of doing trick questions on purpose but there could be one thrown in here and there.
I'm guessing he left before the spreadsheet was open for answers. While you were typing the questions, but I can't fault you for that because no one is flawless. However, there is no way to verify unless we phone Alex's camp.

2. If Cerundalo wins today, he is correct answer. If Cerundalo looses today, Same is correct answer. This match today has almost even odds on Cerundalo and his opponent so this is by no means a done deal.

If Cerundalo loses, both players get the red paint right?

I thought Cerundolo would have been counted as the winner directly as De Minaur didn't even make it to the tournament. But it looks like it will be counted as "the same" if Cerundolo doesn't beat Huesler today. I guess the question won't be removed from this round but I'm lucky that my opponent picked the same answer as me.  Grin

I spoke with cryptofrka and we agreed on following:
1. Question will not be voided, if we intended to do that we would have done it immediately when it became a "problem"

It looks like the tennis question related to Cerundolo and De Minaur has made things really complicated here after De Minaur's not even participating in the tournament. I'm also one of the members who didn't check if he was in the tournament and picked him as an answer to that question.  Grin

But this also leads to many more potential questions and edge cases. If we submit answers on Tuesday whether Haaland will score a goal on Saturday and an injury is announced beforehand, what are we going to do? Those with a "No" have a point while those with a "Yes" lose. Should the question be voided? What if someone says that he took into account a potential injury when choosing "No"? Frankly, I have been taking into account withdrawals and injuries when giving my answers, for example when I made my choices for Alcaraz or other players in a tournament.

Perhaps these are different scenarios, so we can't grade them the same way. I swear to Allah, when I posted my answers on Tuesday, I scrolled through the entire news site and LiveScores looking for Alex's opponent but couldn't find anyone, and he was never mentioned on the tournament bracket either. It appears that he was never going to participate in the tournament because there was nothing about him on the official site, no injury news, no withdrawal news, he never existed in the first place.

Those who answered on Monday, was Alex on the schedule bracket? I'm 100% I didn't even think about the question until Tuesday. If he was and then withdrew along the way the question is valid. Advantage to my opponent

Void or not I hope the other guy loses today to put everything thing at rest.

If the competition had started to begin with before he withdraw drew to injury or other issue, it would be understandable, but his name wasn't in even in the bracket at all, If it was it would have be recorded as Walkover or Retirement, in that case then it's fine, but in this case he replaced by another player, as a new draw was made.

There is no sportbook that would have settled the bet as lost, if you placed an outright on him to win the or going further some other player.

I'll leave the decision to Cro2 team to decide according to their initial intention of the question, if it was intentional, I'm sure it would have been graded already by now on the spreadsheet.

I don't think that Trofo and cryptofrka made up him competing in the tournament. He was probably scheduled to play while they were writing the questions, but later he withdrew probably for the reason casperBGD mentioned. I'm good however the Cro2 team decides - to void the question or not. Even though voiding the question would make me loose a point.

Perhaps we should allow for people to adjust their answers in obvious cases until the official deadline. If they fail to update their answers, it is their responsibility. Maybe we could open two spreadsheets and one is the official one where all the first answers get registered and then a second one that also gets published, but corrections are only allowed where facts materialize before the deadline hits. That way everybody is still his own boss and can submit correction, thereby showing some dedication to this competition.

It would also be transparent as everyone could see when corrections were submitted.
