For tennis questions that is impossible because we have to post questions way in advance and often we don't even know the draw at time of creating it - you know it because you answer 2 days later.
Tennis is far too important to skip, so we're still trying to manage it - tennis is the biggest problem by far.

for start, I do think that it is a great competition, and congrats to Sportsbet and Cro2 for organizing it, maybe it is too many times repeated, but it is a great show

have few suggestions, maybe just shitposting, for tennis:
- not sure why you are trying same question type - who will reach SF/F, that lead to draws and picking favorites
- maybe you can lean towards questions as in the beginning, will top favorite take the tournaments, and how many sets he will lost?
- and if there isn't top favorite (at the moment, we have two top players), maybe what they will do combined, as example:

will Djokovic or Alcaraz win the tournament, and how many sets they will lost on doing it, combined:
- Djokovic will win, losing up to three sets (three included)
- Alcaraz will win, losing up to three sets (three included)
- Djokovic will win, losing more than three sets
- Alcaraz will win, losing more than three sets
- neither will win

or similar with a number of sets played in QF, SF and F combined (all matches), as you were putting for Bundesliga matches

Don't really have new feedback, happy with formats and rules. I suppose I still think that to prevent majority draws on some questions, need to introduce an element of risk-reward. When making picks, the risk of choosing an underdog is too high, so you end up going for the favourite (knowing your opponent is likely to do the same).

To explain: why pick the guy with 5/1 odds instead of the guy with 2/1 odds, when you both are fighting for effectively the same point, right? Makes sense in betting because the win is 4x more than the favourite of 2/1, but not in this system where winner just gets the 1 point. That said, perhaps a bit too complex to implement (though I wonder if an Excel wizard could work out the "mean" answer, and highlight those who picked correctly outside of the mean/majority, and reward those with a "tiebreaker card", that maybe could be used for tiebreaker on a H2H draw.

To add to this - we really try to offer pairs that would generally carry the same odds - specifically so that players don't choose the easy way out.

Rewarding outside picks is a great idea in theory - but one we really cannot implement in the current format. We do like it, and have it in the back of our minds though.

We don't want to miss next week since there is CL final and second week of RG to target with our questions.

Oh goodie... Another tennis question on which many or most of us will fail Grin Just kidding, of course.

I read what buwaytress wrote but I have to admit that I don't understand Smiley I guess since I'm not that much into betting, my understanding of the matter is somewhat limited.

Oh yeah. And well done Cro2 team that you didn't go with the 6 month long season. I think it would be too long. This shorter season is much more attractive as every win is important!
And that is the biggest problem with idea buwaytress proposed. It is great and something that would probably make competition better but we have over 50 players and maybe 10 of them would really understand it from the get go. Then after we repeat the stuff million times maybe half of the participants would really understand it.

Just remember how many times cryptofrka had to explain rules to award free bets and it is much simpler than this. Maybe we will implement it in some way directly in the question which should be straightforward. For instance we ask who will play in RG final and if you chose Alcaraz or Djoković and they get there each gets you only a point. If you choose another top 10 player you get maybe 1.5 and if you choose somebody like Seyboth Wild you get 3 points. Meaning long odds but basically guarantees you a win on question if it comes. But that will make questions much longer to read trough. We will think about it definitely.

@buwaytress try to think a way to "dumb" it down to get parts of your idea but that implementation is straight forward and self explanatory.

Nicely done once more Cro2 team; really good to hear that Sportsbet is happy with the results and want to do this for many seasons to come. I personally think it's a great addition to the forum, still a breath of fresh air, and where the most engaged discussions on sports and sportsbetting take place -- that's evidence I'm able to back up too from a personal viewpoint. On occasion, I post on threads I don't really visit. Pose questions, and no one responds, while the thread continues to fill up with meaningless posts that don't carry on in discussions.

That's not the case here, and to see new blood from SB chat (ClubTalk), even better.

e.g. Say Player A and B end the round tied. But Player B won 1 point by choosing an answer that was outside of a majority answer (maybe 70%+ people choose Verstappen to win a race, but Player B chose Alonso, who wins). Then he gets a tiebreaker card that gives him the tiebreaker win for a question where he draws.

Excel formula might calculate answers to each question. If the question gets a 70% or more of Answer X, that's a potential wild card awarding question. All players who didn't give Answer X, and gets it right, +1 tiebreaker card.

Maybe too complicated, but just something to think about Wink

Here are the tables for first 2 divisions.

We are still contemplating how to best organize 3rd division so that one will be finalized before Sunday when questions for round 1 of Season 2 will be live. If somebody wants out from the competition now is the time to let us know.

Prizes are also mostly sorted out but we are still waiting for final approval from Sportsbet so that will also be finalized before we start hopefully. We don't want to miss next week since there is CL final and second week of RG to target with our questions.

Welcome to the Season 2 of the BSFL!

We cannot be more excited to see the hype around the league and to see new players joining from the Sportsbet's chat as well.
The bosses are happy too, and they are committed to BSFL for a few more seasons for sure. If you continue to be as active as you were so far, we'll reach the goal of this being a long-term forum competition!
General rules won't change much and you're all aware of them by now. You can read them here for a quick reminder. Most of our new members have tried out the competition already and know their way around it.

Season 2

5.6. – 8.10. (18 weeks) – 14 teams per Divisions 1 and 2 (13 rounds, 1-legged competition + the Cup and playoffs) and an undefined number of players in Division 3 so far (between 20 and 24).
Don't take the end date for granted – it might be a few weeks later (we are entering the summer season with not as much football so we might skip a week or 2 if we're really struggling to post meaningful questions).
We will go through all applications in Division 3 and after carefully evaluating them announce the Division 3 format. We are currently considering a single Division 3 with 20 clubs or 2 Division 3's (A and B) with 12 clubs in each – but might decide on something else entirely. We might even get more people in until the official start of the season.
What we can surely say is that the Divisions are expanding again – meaning that Season 3 will have 16 teams in Division 1, 16 teams in Division 2 and potentially even Division 4 – we'll announce that at the same time as the Division 3 general format. There will be 2 players directly relegated from Divisions 1 and 2, 4 players promoted from Division 2 to Division 1 (3 directly, 1 through playoffs) and 6 players promoted from Division 3 to Division 2 (promotion rules to be announced once we define the format of Division 3).
The format was supposed to be 2-legged in Season 2. We kept it 1-legged, we liked the fast pace of the season 1. We still don't know which format we'll use for Season 3 – but we're quite happy with the current one so might as well keep it going forward. Your feedback here would be appreciated as well.

Rules and recommendations

1.) Please install Telegram Bitcointalk bot. You will get notified every time we tag you for deadlines or important info.
2.) Please submit your answers on time. The bot will help there for sure.
3.) Please submit all the answers, and submit them with possible outcomes. When you give free points in your H2H questions to your opponent, it isn't fair to all other league members.
4.) To deal with the situations from points 2) and 3), we are forced to introduce some penalties. Each team that fails to submit answers on time or submits the answers in a way that is not in accordance with competition rules will receive a 1 point deduction – not for that round but from total points won in the league. We think the penalty is fair to keep the league competitive, and you can always ask in the thread if you don't understand some of the questions.
5.) If you repeatedly fail to submit the questions on time and in correct format, there's a high chance that we will be forced to remove you from the competition. The competition is becoming more serious and with the plans Sportsbet has for it going forward, we all need to do our part to make it fair and exciting. You were doing that most of the time in Season 1 so we aren't worried, and we thank you for it.

This is also the time for your feedback – we're taking it seriously and want to hear what you all have to say.

We will announce the rewards and Division 3 format until the end of the week.

The questions for the 1st round of Season 2 will be sent latest on Sunday evening.

If someone wants out, now's the time to say so. For the fairness of the competition, everybody from Division 3 that fails to submit the answers in the 1st round will be automatically disqualified.

On tennis, though, I tend to take correct scores or handicaps or live, like what Trofo did (take the favourite when they're already down 1 or 2 sets). Djokovic is my intense preference for this kind of live betting.

Interesting. Live is very difficult for me to do, I mean I add a lot of them to my multibets but it's straight match line bets, the problem is most day time sports is during my work, and when I'm free, internet is bad lol

This is the one I took today, prematch, it's dumb but I never tried before, let's see what happens with just a very small bet Wink

Women's tennis tips anyone?

There are also countless events that are unpredictable like in-game injuries, mistakes and red cards and what not.

From my testing, the only game where AI would be almost always true would be Blackjack, but it would still need some human input, and you could get flagged for card counting.

The books actually already use their own proprietary software, though it's less AI and more number crunching, that still needs a human to decipher and determine.

You would be surprised, there's a lot of historical data and automation involved + what we call "AI" didn't pop out just now, it was there for the past 15 years at least, just a bit less sophisticated.

I remember that back in 2014 we had a group of workers that populated information for an "if>then" script, and then a spintax module with a dictionary database that formed sentences. Obviously there was less crawling of data and more human inputs (especially for player injuries), but it did the job well.

@mv1986 AI's not proven to be very good at all, ChatGPT and other models anyway still need data fed to them (and the latest is only updated as of 2021/22, they don't even know the right rosters for teams Wink The books actually already use their own proprietary software, though it's less AI and more number crunching, that still needs a human to decipher and determine.

Yes and AI is missing this intuitive element (for now). Sometimes I place a bet against the odds because I have this feeling that this time the huge favorite could stumble against a seemingly weaker opponent. AI could only be guessing as much as I can because the odds are already against me and the reason for that is that the majority thinks otherwise. That is something AI can't deliver as an output. It could only gather every single piece of information and discussion from all forums on the Internet and get a sentiment as an output. But the whole point when it comes to discussions about sports is the controversy, the different opinions, but also the size of fanbases that would have to be accounted for.

I believe there might be some applications, but I have read all kinds of stuff like AI bots that guarantee winning strategies at the stock market. Assuming this was true (which it isn't), what if tens of thousands of people buy the bot? They would neutralize each others' alphas to zero. But as long as some really believe in this stuff, those who spread misinformation about AI bots creating winning strategies in betting and trading can still earn money from selling their software.

There are also countless events that are unpredictable like in-game injuries, mistakes and red cards and what not.

@slaman29 Definitely don't do it only in football, but it's the sport I follow the most, and with the most unbalanced odds (20/1 is quite regular, but not so for tennis).

Don't talk to me about Thiem, don't want to remember that blunder. I took him to win when he was 2 sets down @7 and already thought it will be a nice boost to my betting bank Smiley

This last year I am learning that if I bet on tennis, I did well live, almost every second time I make prematch I lose. I'm switching my betting in football to try big underdog and it seems a little success there, but never try for tennis, in my mind it's much harder to comeback but yes, horrible start for me, I don't even want to talk about Medvedev.

In RG we have our first big surprise Medvedev being Medvedev and losing against a newbie player from qualy. And yesterday in NBA we have another hit, Miami defeating Boston, so they took out seed 1 and 2 being 8 seed, its the second team in history to make his way into the finals being the 8 seed.

If I remember it was 11x on that newbie player, who will be the most famous guy in his town after this, even if he loses next match (which I bet he will).

I feel like I have to start trying to bet more like buwaytress, it seems very successful but I don't know if he does it only for football.

There have been a couple of threads discussing AI and how it could influence sports betting when players use it to their own benefit. Like gathering news from the Internet and then come up with suggestions. But I believe there is no way how these results would have been predicted and that is what makes it also interesting for us players. I haven't even read the name of the guy who beat Medvedev ever. When Medvedev took the 2-1 lead, who would have the guts and bet on that qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild. Beating Medvedev in the first round at the French Open must feel like the GS title already. Hello everybody,,, sorry for the late response, when I checked last I thought I failed to reach the playoff, so I did not think to read properly, and missed a message from the organizer Trofo. Actually I continue to receive messages from people here,,, I have to say you guys are a big and caring community of gamblers and that is so unique Cheesy

My team Spurs is reflecting my mind these days, completely out of consideration of big things Sad And I am surprised I did okay in a few pools,,, maybe it is really best to make picks without following too much, otherwise emotions get in charge right?

Thank you for Cro2 and jeremypwr especially for always being around. And to Steve for sure, for funding our fun;) Division 2, here I come  Cool

The Boston-Miami series was really tight. First, Miami took a 3-0 lead and after Boston managed to tie it, I was kind of hoping they could win Game 7 and become the first team in history to make the finals after being down 3-0 in the semifinals. But then again, I always like it when underdogs perform well so I'm happy with Miami in the finals Smiley

We wanted to have a bit longer break, but really don't want to miss the EL and CL finals.

Well I think starting off with only a week or two of breaks is pretty much fine. BSFL is pretty popular right now and everyone enjoy competing with each another every week so yeah there is no reason to cool off the hype.

Also, next week will be the main part of the Roland Garros - so plenty of things to track.

Oh god, another tennis question which seems to be what Im bad at. Most of the time I ended up with picking heavy favourites then somewhat later in the previous season I started picking off slightly less favourite. Most of my picks ended up as wrong anyway  Roll Eyes

Anyway, confirmed that I received the prize already !
