So all of you that are still in the competition, congratulations you are in the money and you have a guaranteed prize of 1.2 mBTC. All the rewards will be paid out in one transaction when we have a grand winner but nothing stopping us to collect your BTC addresses on time. Send me your BTC addy via pm or telegram so that we don't clutter the thread. I opted to ask you guys now since some of you that loose matches will probably drift off and loose a bit of interest. We will have a rewards page in spreadsheet and your job is to double check your address there after you have your final rank. Thanks

Trofo or cryptofrka, could you enable us to select the cells in the spreadsheet with the results? On mobile I can't see most of the answers because I they are too long. If it's too much of a hassle then don't. But it would be great if you could do this. I can't see when I answered that Australia will concede a goal on mobile Smiley

You chose poorly Grin

If you tell me how to do it I will, I never used Google Sheets on mobile.
From what I saw, I can only share to you as viewers, commenters or editors, and from these 3 options the only possible one is the one you've got now - viewer.

Deadline is when first match kicks off, we are aware of that "problem" and if we caught it on time we would have asked different question for first game.

talked too much about line-ups, overthought it, and missed point on this match, as most other participants

Netherlands let USA get the ball, but they were quick to score when they get that ball, efficiency over passing

now to Argentina, still without goals, not that much to see so far

Harkorede

And sadly, after making so much hype about myself going into the competition, I was knocked out, and for the first time, this lucky bastard buywatress got his way, and Harkorede as uasul kept getting lucky, but wait for me nigga, I promise you I'll beat your ass in the UCL prediction pool.  Grin BTW, congrats guys, you did an amazing job, especially with the MD3 questions.

I'm feeling like the German right now; I got hyped up before the game, was assigned to one of the easier groups, and was knocked out on the MD3. All of my favorite teams are almost gone, leaving only Argentina and Senegal.

Political aside, this has been one of the best world cup tournaments since the 1998, 2006, and 2010 world cups, with so much unpredictability, excitement, upsets, suspense, and so much more going on, and everyone is either upset or happy, big teams being on their toes for 90 minutes, don't let the EU/AU media tell you otherwise. This is only the beginning of what could be the best World Cup ever.

I entered my picks last night, without waiting to see lineups or injuries or whatever for Netherlands.
I have good news for you, no injuries reported for team Netherlands but are you already conceding even before results are in Huh

Was I at a disadvantage? I don't think so, because I believe in myself hahaha
Disadvantage maybe but because no injuries were reported we all have equal chances to the game...so you are pretty much in it.

Good luck @Woodie ! May the best bastard win.

Hahah I definitely need all the luck I can get but good luck to you too.

Thank you Cro2 for all the effort.

@slaman29 I believe almost all participants here don't have English as a first language (I'm trying really hard to think but I can't recognise anyone in the list who speaks English natively!) but I can almost guarantee that being on this forum and actually engaging with the language helps everyone in the long run. It is a fair point you brought up, though, if the idea was to attract absolute newcomers -- but as Cro2's pointed out (and in other conversation threads), the event was aimed for the most active forum users and football enthusiasts, so the terminology's not at all foreign to anyone who bets regularly on football.

For example, you see the cricket threads? I speak English well but I can't figure out 90% of the terms in cricket. But I'd bet there are even fewer native English speakers in those threads. But they know the game and all those cricket lingo which is mumbo jumbo to me, it's not for them. If they organised an event like this, I wouldn't participate, and fairplay, I shouldn't Wink

On the format itself, I think this is already much more engaging that anything else -- I can imagine other even more fun formats but time-sensitivity does create a problem with a global participant base.

what bothers me is the deadline and first question? not sure how many answers did you get so far, but deadline is before match starts, and line-ups will be announced hour earlier, which would give main advantage to people the wait for deadline?

For example even the first question, maybe we can try to write as "who will be play as a sub" so it is clearer than "will enter the game from the bench for Netherlands." is slightly unclear.
English is obviously not our first language as well but I really don't see how anybody who understands English and watches football on regular basis can have a problem with sentence like "will enter the game from the bench for Netherlands."
~snip

I think that all questions are properly asked, and could be answered without a doubt

is this an omission, or you gave advantage to users that know fact about line-ups announced hour earlier, which should be fair, since knowledge is obviously power Smiley

or deadline is not before match starts, then hour before that?

The deadline is tomorrow before the 1st games. You can of course post the answers later, but you will lose points for all the games that have started.
Deadline is when first match kicks off, we are aware of that "problem" and if we caught it on time we would have asked different question for first game.

Simply not enough time to double check everything and we did not consider it as a big problem. That is just one out of 10 points and not a game changer. And as you have put it, it also requires some knowledge to make use of our lapse. We would avoid stuff like that in future just cause there maybe are some people from different time zones which could have problems submitting when line ups are known.

On the other hand your proposed version "who will be play as a sub" has a problem with tenses and would probably bother English speaking people. "who will come on as a sub" can work, but I would guess that google translate would have some problems with word "sub".

I get your point and we will try to be as clear as possible in the future. We actually tried to give a bit of story and context to the questions to make it more interesting but that part isn't that important to the question itself. Both of us have a solid English knowledge and we are reading trough each other questions and making small corrections to make it even more clear.

In the end this competition was intended to be "elite", meaning limited spots and advantage to get them to Bitcointalk users and Sportsbet users, we can freely add to that that knowing English is one of required skills as well. That is life and I would urge anybody that had problem with language to work on their English, it is the language you need to know to get best opportunities in life.

Well done for winning our group Harkorede! I am just thankful for going through, the second and third round of quiz I had to enter in a rush because I didn't even have anything to research on but honestly I think I might have made wrong choices if I researched, definitely not to pick some picks like Germany which actually was right.

I went risky in my selections, e.g. Ansu Fati never started for Spain, I also think England I believe no one expects all three to have shots on target but I went for that.

The question says '6 European teams can progress to the quarterfinals. How many will get there?' - so I don't feel that it's worded incorrectly.

We maybe could have worded the 1st option better though - we left it as '0-2' although 2 are guaranteed to go through.
Made more sense like that - that is basically the option in which you bet against all European teams.

It was exactly as I understood, and I think that option is the riskiest, we all saw upsets but I have a feeling this is not going to be the stage for as many upsets.

Great format, so good job to Trofo and cryptofrka. I think this is a wonderful template.

I think majority of us like this BUT if I can come up with one criticism, I would probably say the format could be too difficult (not the right word I want to use but in malay it is "leceh") for a lot of users to make the effort correctly. My comment here is about the language issue, even for me English was something I improved over past 5 years.

For example even the first question, maybe we can try to write as "who will be play as a sub" so it is clearer than "will enter the game from the bench for Netherlands." is slightly unclear.

I really really like this format, but maybe in future if we want a big different group of users, it might not be suitable for everyone. I believe this is why users like dittoup didn't play properly although he never explained however so I just guess at the reason.

Unless the format is purposely meant to be tricky (but for many of us English is already tricky lol).

I'm not sure that you counted European nations in the 9th question. If I counted correct, there are eight European nations (1 Netherlands, 2 France, 3 Poland, 4 England, 5 Croatia, 6 Spain, 7 Portugal, 8 Switzerland). It's not that big problem because the answers are OK. Some teams are playing each other so there's no chance for all eight of them to advance to the quarters.

We did not count them at all - we just said 6 can progress Grin

That was the point, we gave only option for those that can go trough but maybe we wrote the number wrong in the question itself. There is 2 games without EU team so only 6 can pass. But there are of course 8 left in the competition.

It is though to organize competition like this when there is no break days between match days. We have to wait for last game to finish and we have to give you guys enough time to cover all time zones. Really not the perfect work conditions.

I agree that it's not easy to organize this kind of competition where you have to give out questions immediately after the last game. Both of you are doing an amazing job and I really hope that you will continue organizing this kind of competitions in the future. The questions for this round are pretty tough but that's the way it should be. The error in the question does not impact the result so it's all OK Smiley

happy to proceed into next round on a tough note, decider with icopress, but Brazil joined favorites that let their last match, and goal for Cameroon was in last minutes

on the other side, Serbia left the competition, eight goals conceived in three matches is simply too much for WC, our defense is somewhere between poor and non-existing

now to knock-off with vd309, usual competitior from all pools

Congratulations to KTCham and Ralle14 for advancing to the next round from group F.
Thanks and well played to you guys.  Grin

The set of questions this round seems really tough and i'm starting to overthink the questions that involve lineups. Tongue

I feel like i'd get 3-5 points at most but i'm hoping whatever points I get would be enough for me to advance.

I'm very happy that I managed to through group stage, it wasn't easy at all. I got @Harkorede in 1/8 final, he is obviously not that opponent that I preferred to get in this stage already. Anyway, my minimal goal to get out of group is already reached.
I went through questions and I see it's getting more difficult. Probably it's not best idea to submit it now after taking a few beers Cheesy. I'll do it tomorrow before games with fresh head.
Good luck, bastards!

I'm gad to have made it pass the group stages Cheesy Cheesy, but it only gets harder now and the questions this time around are even more tough technical, honestly.

The second question in the form seemed to be slightly wrongly worded (or intertwined between the question and the answer options) and could be misinterpreted, I think I have the correct interpretation from the question itself, but the options in the answers could also all happen except the last one, I think the answers should be stated as the first goal to be conceded rather than if they'll concede within a specific interval or not, as they could concede goals in all the intervals of the first 3 options.

The question is for how long will they be able to keep a clean sheet. A clean sheet is a standard term in which a team does not concede.

Basically, the question is at which point will Australia concede their 1st goal - or during which time interval will France score for the 1st time.

_____________

I'm off to sleep guys, considering the short deadline we'll make sure to answer all your questions in the morning!
