Frankly, I hope we can see this kind of organizations continuing. I think the Champions League is a nice field for this. We can collect some money and create an organization like a pool next year.

Definitely would like to do something similar for UCL too, it was hard enough getting participants for pool, but now we already have proof that people are willing to play a format like this, will be cool to see what else we can come up with. Credit to Cro2 for putting this out to test (and see it work successfully!).

My prediction (and no offense guys haha):
I hope your prediction comes true since I wasn't expecting to make it this far Cheesy so a 4th-3rd place finish is already a big win for me.

Then there is no more pressure and expectation haha. Dream big, force your luck, as Trofo would say. You're already in a great position now, enjoy it and GL!

The thing is that however you spin the questions, eventually it al comes down to luck.
If the teams are close and the question is possession based, if 1 ream scores early they will give possession to the other team.

The same as counterattacking - the team that will counterattack is the team that is already leading.

Yeah, I would say, the people who don't know football at all will suffer from terrible luck (picking the most ridiculous answers all the time) and if you just follow the tournament, you'll at least put yourself on equal luck footing with everyone else.

Going to be hard to top the format you guys did Wink

In sport luck is a huge element, we saw it already in this competition with some crazy upsets against the run of play. We can't avoid it in questions, but we do feel that the questions give a better opportunity to test that luck to the players that do follow the WC a bit more.

We can introduce questions like 'who's going to be Man of the Match', but the answer to that is really hard and basically nobody would win a point in most situations.

Maybe a more complicated but research-based question would be on is like "How will a team start a game, sit back and try to counter on first half?" or "How will a team react after scoring, or letting in a goal?" or "except injury, what will the first substitution be, defence for offence, offence for defence, or no change"? but even so, teams can play differently depending on coach and then it's luck all over again.
Those are nice questions if you are playing with your mates for fun. But in competition like this you have to have official site backing the answers or something that isn't subjective. For instance who will hit the post first is legit since there can be no doubt but the question you proposed could easily have two different answers for two people watching the game.

When you ask about substitutions what would you base your grading? In this world cup in particular if 2 subs are made they are often exchanged. For instance attacker comes for defender and then defender for attacker. Both are done in the same window. Would you say that correct answer is "attacker for defender" since that is how it is written or would you go with what actually happened - 2 fresh players brought on for the same positions. We need to cover every possible outcome of every question in verifiable way, not that easy, trust me  Grin

100++ I trust you for sure!

I forgot that later there will be people asking for proof of the answers and the only way to show it is replay, and maybe you're right, subjective (but I think counterattacks these days are stats that are collected, but agree hard to find a statistics site that shows it match by match event and with timing). FIFA for sure collects stas per 10 minutes I think, problem is they are not public or I don't find it.

Substitutions is easy to clarify though... make it clear with the rules that for purpose of the question, substitution counts what the coach issue to the official. Defender for attacker, attacker for defender just to follow what is verifiable (even in your scenario) as all sites will show who was substituted for who.

For example, some questions we have already have to make some adjustments for example there was a question about "forwards" or "defence" but if coach plays forward/defender in midfield or technically in 5-2-2-1 formation we still should count the official forward as he is "labeled" right? Or if Van Dijk plays as striker, like Netherlands did cheekily in Nations League, he is still considered a defender, right? Smiley

So of course the more complicated the question, the more we have to specify the rules but I think that's understandable for all players so far. Also, all judges decision is final if you guys decided on something I didn't agree, I would accept it for sure since that should be the rule of the event.

yes, but easier said than done, as I still don't have a definitive answer to any of these question yet and the fact that it's QFs makes every choice making decision tougher, but then, que sera sera.
I agree I still have a bunch of questions left unanswered since there are choices that will make you question your pick if it's the correct one or not.  Grin

His disallowed goal happens because is out of timing... yes, but forget all the technical part, this is the World Cup, I liked seeing Garrett Bayle in a World Cup regardless of his performance, you get the point.

That analysis that you do, btw with which I agree, fits 99% of the players, but CR7 is in that 1%, now, in the case the classic saying "games are lost by the coaches and won by the players" ( adage that you surely know) in this case, old Zorro (technician) he won it.

Mr. Fernando Costas, "you unleashed the beast at the right moment and it worked"...

In any case, as I mentioned, he is a prominent player (his personality sucks, it's true, but I leave that to the coaches and his teammates) but in any case, my context in the post or in this thread interested me because It was my advantage to go to the second round, if I didn't score I had at least the assist on goal.

You heard the stadium when CR7 went in to play, I repeat, I'm not saying that I don't agree with your analysis, but there is another side of the coin and it is the one I mentioned. In fact, I even bet anyone that with how "sick" he is, maybe we will see him in another world cup +.

Hey!! I didn't care if Portugal won, to be honest, I'm going to Argentina, Brazil in that order. BUT! the final in Hollywood style would be "Messi vs. CR7*" and it will surely start*.  Cool

I don't have a song for you...!  Smiley

What a shit new for a few that Ronaldo doesnt start the game.

We are having difficulties in believing as a team that we are in the quarter finals now. Even though competing against CasperBgd who is one of the biggest favourites of the tournament is decreasing our chance, we are going to do our best. We have managed to get past dittoup in the group stage and Ktchampions by a tiebreak in last 16 stage. I hope we can maintain this fairytale. But we need to accept that our job is very difficult.

entered picks for this round, pretty serious questions for QF

good luck to all participants, except for Brasil, there is no major favorite in other matches, and some surprises could happen
all in all, two days without football filled batteries, and now we can get back to some action

Still going to enjoy watching this thread. Definitely looks like Bitcointalk natives are having a strong showing! My prediction (and no offense guys haha):

harkorede v woodie
slaman29 v itlongrun
ralle14 v kanapka
cls63 v casperbgd

then, it'll be a Harkorede v CLS63 final, with Harko taking it all.

Feel free to share winnings with me for my 100% accurate prediction Wink

I'll take the well wish in good faith and I can only it happens, yes, but easier said than done, as I still don't have a definitive answer to any of these question yet and the fact that it's QFs makes every choice making decision tougher, but then, que sera sera.

Good luck to every other participants, and may the best "Snows" as per Game of Thrones goes through, and the best of them win!

Now we can say, the really fun beguns, the big prizes are ahead. So lets keep pushing guys, good luck to all the participants, but more for the Bitcointalk natives, destroy that foreing asses. Tongue

Yeah, as mentioned didn't at all know about the coach bustup he had after the last game, or I'd never have gone for him, not that it mattered for me as my challenger had "No" and I'd still have ended up losing. Lineups mistakes cost me (but still, it was luck). Have said it often, if he doesn't start, the stars will shine and they absolutely did.

It feels awkward to me though, at first the adjustment from 4 matches a day, catching almost no break, it felt good and it was pretty addictive within that short period of which it lasted for and now taking a two-day break, it's due as the players needs to catch a break themselves too.

I think we are at a stage where almost no amount of research will come in very handy and as it would have in the earlier stages, there are so many decisions to made that more like a mind games, where you're making a pick simply because you're expecting the opposite to happen, just like choosing between Brazil Over/Under 6.5 goals on target and Croatia Over/Under 3.5 goals, according to my own interpretation and experience of what's likely to happen is going to be dependent on who scores the first goal and how early it is, imagine Brazil taking a lead from 10-20 minutes, Croatia are very much likely to have Over 3.5 shots on target, while Brazil imo will likely come short of the 6.5 threshold, and if it's Croatia with the first lead during the game, I don't see Brazil not making as many as Over 6.5 shots on goal, and then there's the chance of both teams playing it conservatively and trying to catch each on a sudden break and at such both teams not getting any where near those tallies and finally there's that very fine margin of both teams getting explosive and go with an attacking minded approach and going way beyond what's expected of both of them, so how exactly is one supposed to navigate this intertwined fates carefully while avoiding all these booby traps  Shocked Shocked Shocked

I'm fully expecting all players to be fully rested, anyone with injuries to be fully healed (like Neymar's ankle). So we should be getting an awesome set of 4 games. I will probably miss the 2 biggest ones even though it's weekend since I work anyway on those days, so it's a little bit disappointing for me, but on the other hand the early games are also nice to watch, so nothing to complain about Smiley

Amazing questions that are breaking my logic even just reading, thank you Cro2!

I agree no/little research is useful except maybe for lineup selection considering injuries and arguments with coaches lol but even so, it's impossible to predict what coaches will do or which players will end up getting selected as we cannot see behind training and selection meetings.

Brazil and Croatia are the biggest traps. If Brazil score early, your scenario could be right IF Croatia then try to get the equaliser rightaway but they also could be tempted to sit back and wait for 1st half to restrategize, and then just try counters all second half, but desperation can also mean shots off target or from outside box. Sit back and absorb then Brazil gets many shots. But if both sides somehow try a lot we get many shots, but probably low accuracy.

So in the end, we are picking outcomes that depend entirely on how the first goal is scored, if at all.

But first I need to take a break from this tournament. I'm even glad that today/tomorrow we have a day off from football, as I began to spend too much time watching games and thinking about bets.
It really was an overload of football in last couple of weeks. This 2 days of break will come very handy to recharge the batteries and enjoy it to the maximum once again. It is also much easier for us to organize this contest when we have a break between the games. We can wait to see all the results and then do proper research and post questions. Much better than rushing it and guessing how things will develop.

just to confirm one question, for number 5, Morocco - Portugal, regular time is counted?
at least for "no goals are scored", since other questions are related to half-times as well, so could be concluded that it is only regular time

interesting questions, will put my answers tomorrow, thanks for organizing all this competition, since Serbia was fast gone, helps keeping me close to whole WC tournament Smiley

Only regular time, yes. If the goal is scored in extra time, it won't be counted.

I didn't realized until now that there is prize for reaching Round of 16 Cheesy. Sent my BTC to PM now.
I checked questions for the next round and I see that you guys have done great job again. Just my opinion about one question - I think that question about winners of games, like you have for England - France game isn't needed. Basically, it's repeat what we're doing in prediction pools.
Good luck to all guys who are still in the game!

You're kinda right about that, didn't cross my mind that most of you participate in that pool as well.
It isn't a question we had so far and it isn't the one we feel we'll have again, but for this particular game it made sense because the game really does not have a clear favorite.

The questions for the quarter finals are here!

Some general rules:

- most of you submit betslips on time but so far we have tolerated if somebody was a day late. Now a day late means knowing answers to half of the questions so betslips need to be submitted before the 1st games, no exceptions.
- there is no deadline, but you lose the points for all questions that started before your submission. That includes questions 9 and 10 so make sure to submit on time

We tried to be creative but it is becoming harder and harder, and some questions are bound to repeat. We are trying to put this at a minimum.
Please let us know if some mistakes have been made, we did triplecheck it but you never know Smiley

Other than that, have fun and good luck!

@buwaytress great comeback that was really close and for a second I thought I was packing when I saw Ronaldo score not until the offside flag was raised...and the Portugal match kept me on the edge of my seat looking at how easy goals were flying in, otherwise love the sportsmanship keep it up  Cool

Yeah same here, I tried not to react but I did when the ball hit the back of the net, and with replays I hoped he was somehow still in his half but it was so offside I laughed. The last corner too, I said if he scores, I'm going to not shit on him so much.

Well done, though, I want you to win it all so I can say you knocked me out Wink
