I guess you are referring to player "polagambar", he wagered more than 14btc + 163,500ETH (more than $300M) in few days as he created the account on March 26th.
So it is reasonable if he won 5 tickets + 2 tickets (7 *$5,000) but as what I heard is that he lost $13M with above wagering statistic.
Maybe he does not even care about the raffle but hopefully he claim it, at least to recover some of his huge lost.

I am with you on this, bonuses are what they say they are, they shouldn't be goals, just nice bonuses you can get when you play enough. Most of the bonuses i got i was surprised to get them. And i got them to the top of winning strike too. I find that trying to gamble because of the bonus is just an excuse i tell myself to gamble when i am losing. Fighting against that urge when you don't want to gamble is part of the game, and can feel pretty good when you have control over yourself.
