do not forget, there are like to or more possible ways through which gamblers could get addicted to gambling, you made mention of one, which is -
- winning to much and wanting more - this can be said to be caused by greed, but on a second thought, I asked myself, who ever sees an legitimate easy way of making money but refuse to follow it, and prefer the hard way instead? None.
Another way through which people get addicted to gambling is -
- losing too much - in other words, one losing more than he or she can afford to lose/bear, without self control, the aftermath result of this is that, gambler could start chasing his losses without him or her even knowing it, and before they realize what is goin on, they are already addicted gamblers.
In all, self control and constantly checking ourselves plays Important roles in ensuring that we never allow ourselves get addicted to gambling.
I think losing too much rarely makes someone a gambler, does it? I mean I remember a lot of people who lost and just went away, sometimes they lost a little but didn't like the feeling of losing their money, or just assumed that it was rigged (and this was back when all games were purely provably fair and not like today) and some just lost way too much and decided to change something in their life and went away.
This is why I believe that we should not be able to actually cause this type of trouble, forget about all of this for a second and remember that we are talking about a situation that hurts people if they want to stop and can't, only way to get that type of addiction is clear, not winning or losing, but doing it long enough time.
I see it like this, when novice gamblers start, they get big wins, as a result they will be addicted to continuing to play because they have experienced big wins. And when it's like that, they will get out of control, that's what makes them addicted to playing gambling in the end.
Conversely, if they lose the first time they play, they will consider gambling not profitable at all. So they'll go and leave it like that. Not everyone is like that, but some of them do.
I say this from what I saw around me, when they first started gambling and I heard it live when we got together.
