I requested refund before they started shipping which was refused. The fire hazard miner was then delivered weeks late. RMA was refused on dead dies on the grounds that the remaining dies were running slightly over 3TH. To top it all off this is now 2/5 cubes burnt out with 16AWG cables.

KnC have two arguments in this regard;
1. Low quality cables
2. Improperly seated cables i.e. not all six pins making contact

Real world;
1. Clearly not a low quality cable with 16AWG; it's a design issue where each 50w pin is expected to handle >100w
2. As shown all three of the positive pins burnt, not just two, as it would if one of them wasn't seated properly

I have been lucky so far in that my house hasn't burnt down yet.

i got the exact same treatment that you got from KnC - which was annoying and upsetting, but those two cunts made it much, much worse with their feigned ignorance & malice.hence my year long hatred towards them and their blind fanbase of dweebs.

how about ditching those pci-e and soldering directly to the pcb?? if that piece cant handle the load just get rid of it imo...

I tested them first on the PCIe then voided warranty.

BTW 2 x 12AWG in each direction still gets warm.
Will replace 2x12AWG with 3x12AWG next maint pitstop.
My plan is to use 2 x 12/3 extension cords for the wire.
(50% more copper plus better flexability)

jupiter batch #1 and #2 were nearly perfect. especially batch#2 made those buyers a ton of bitcoins. rma were quick and without hassle.

their attitude changed in january when they decided not to sell those extra chips they had and go instead for datorhall.

I think people are recommending the 1300W EVGA, which I believe can handle 3 Neptune modules.

I use 3x Corsair AX1200i for my Neptune, which I'm planning to expand to 5 of them for two Neptunes (when I get my bonus Neppy), i.e. one AX1200i powers two Neptune modules.

There is a catch with the AX1200i.  You need to have PCIe 2-to-1 splitters to use them with the Neptune because the AX1200i has Over-Current Protection (OCP) which kicks in and shuts the PSU down. I blame this on KnC, not the PSU, as the Neptune draws more power across a single PCIe connector than the specification is designed for (that's why the safety features of the AX1200i kick in). Putting the PCIe 2-to-1 splitter cables on means that two PCIe ports on the PSU feed the single PCIe port on the Neptune module, so each PSU PCIe port is supplying power within the PCI specification (and doesn't trip the OCP).

I got my PCIe 2-to-1 cables from Cablez, and I'm very happy with the product (see https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7579936). I've been running them 24x7 since July 11th with no trouble (they don't get warm).

Same here; will be rocking 5xAX1200i if KfC ever dispatch bonus miners.

KfC asked me to send the burnt out cubes back to them at my expense so they can inspect them and decide if they should RMA. That's not an acceptable level of service right? They are essentially saying I have to solder new power sockets myself and hope the cubes still work or suffer further down time and shipping costs?

That would mean they may be on the hook to fix it.  By just saying it is 'by design' they can keep going with substandard engineering and no one will be on the hook except the miner with RMAs pending.

They obviously were too cheap to build new boards to withstand the extra power flow caused by the 20nm chips. They even use the same PCB boards for the Neptune as on the Jupiter.. For a company that has a revenue of 100+million, they should be ashamed of themselves. The least they could do is acknowledge the problem  Roll Eyes

So this is a 10000usd Jog, and even this single socket not make trouble, sooner or later pcb board also make trouble too, then only 90days warranty, that is about the time to blow up cube even under normal working condition, so will knc offer schematic and pcb for upgrade to shoot this issue out.

That is only issue, I don't want to over clock, but it looks now even I don't over clock it, it still can't last long.

Some how, the single socket design could limited over clock behavior, so when the time Tity ship to my place I won't oc it.

Yes, it's an over current issue alright! Over twice the current the socket is designed for was an over current issue from day one.

As for overclocking; there is no overclocking with Neptune. Everything from the power connection to the VRM's to the chips are already running at or above their maximum spec. The web interface allows users to change from 475Mhz to 500Mhz but this would not make enough difference speed wise to warrant the risk of changing stock settings.

It just takes one to burn out and the remaining two will burn out pretty quickly after that as they take on the additional current from the first burnt out pin. The one making the poor contact will eventually burn if there was some contact at all.

In that situation you can usually see what happened; if there were two pins making good contact and one making poor contact it would be usual for the failing pin to be a lot more blackened / melted than the other two which burn out quickly afterwards. If there were two pins making contact and one with none then we would likely see two very blackened and melted and one intact? However it's neither of these cases; it had been running for a good while before it melted and all three pins melted consistently to each other.
