If i have to speculate then 1% chance if India fails to perform in 2021 T-20 WC but IMO the only real chance is after 2023 50 overs World Cup. Other than that i don't see any other scenario where he's giving up captaincy willingly.

But who can be the captain even if himself wants to step down from the captaincy? There is no competitor at all for that position now. Maybe Rohit Sharma can do the job?

We have seen in the past with other players that it can help as it takes the pressure off and he can then just worry about getting back into form.

Let's see how long Sikhar Dhawan stays in the team, he was even dropped from his State team after performing bad in Vijay hazare trophy. I believe his retirement time is coming, may be after T-20 WC.

Yes but i was glad to see Virender Sehwag scoring freely in the first match and the way Kevin Pietersen bats, i recently saw a Sky Sports batting masterclass and he was hitting the ball cleanly and so does Andrew Flintoff and now there is no pressure to perform and i do think they can perform well in franchise cricket even at this age.
