The move made by the Australian Government allowing 1/4 of the crowd in the stadiums is definitely good for T20 World Cup. But I think if they host the Worldcup this year, it might become a new hub of infection. Even if everyone follows social distancing and personal hygiene, the spread becomes uncontrollable when large masses gather in one place. So it's better to delay the sport as of now or at least do a trial series between two countries to see if there is a chance of spread.

I am also feeling these relationship are not going to improve because its not in favour of politicians and here in sub continent politics is biggest business for a small group which is very powerful so never think about cricket here between these two countries.

I am neither Indian, nor Pakistani. But for now, let's stop this topic diversion. If there is any improvement in the situation between India and Pakistan, then we can resume this conversation.

If any of you guys are interested in the T20 World Cup 2020, then I have good news for you. Scott Morrison (Australian PM) today announced that 25% crowd will be allowed in the stadiums for major events. He didn't explicitly mentioned the world cup, but there is a good chance that it will move forward now.

This piece of news will give great boost to the International Cricket Council (ICC) & Cricket Australia (CA) to move ahead with the ICC T20 World Cup. On the contrary, the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) hopes of hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 this year will be pegged back.

Yes the Australian Government will allow up to 10k people in stadiums starting soon. Australia have big stadiums so I think it can work and I think it could also work for the T20 world cup if the ICC do go ahead as planned and maybe by then we could see a lot more fans allowed to attend the games. First we must see how this goes with the football games and lets just hope it works out for the best.

Great news if the Australian government allows matches to happen in a stadium filled with crowds then it will certainly be welcomed by the ICC and also boost the chances of T20 Worldcup happening this year.

I hope everything goes well with the present matches.

As right now we still have four months and this is good time for them to follow neighbours and do some good work so we will be able to watch this big mega event on time now its possible as they have good sources and they are capable to handle things for good lets wait next announcement from them about this all.
If you are talking about the New Zealand strategy they should not follow anyone as Australia is doing a really good job on controlling the situation as they have only under 400 active cases which is not bad. The ICC has not changed the schedule yet and i think they can carry on with the tournament as scheduled.

That is a welcoming news and they have the luxury to do that with the number of active cases really low and they have contained the virus while countries like India shut the entire country for months and did not do anything to combat the situation and now they are opening everything and the number of cases keep on increasing rapidly. We have a few months left and by the time World Cup approaches everything will be back to normal in countries where they did their homework to combat the virus while the rest struggles.

If there is any improvement there is no point in debating right. I understand they have neighboring issues and they are dealing everything politically and those two countries not playing each other just deprive others of great matches.

This is a positive news and hopefully we will see the world cup as scheduled and now with the minister announcing their intention i am hoping there is no changes in the schedule.

These all things are very good for read and write but in practical its very difficult as even in next one decade we have no hope of any bilateral cricket between these two countries because BJP's all politics is against Pakistan and if they do any favour its mean they are going to commit suicide.

It is ridiculous to blame BJP for the current situation between the BCCI and the PCB. The public opinion in India was in favor of cricket relations between these two nations until a decade ago. But then, a string of terror attacks resulted in the Indian public taking a hard line against their Western neighbor. Even if the current opposition comes to power in India, I don't think that the relations would improve.

It is good for the Indian board to include Pakistani players in IPL because it will create more interest in the tournament and the direct benefit will go to the Indians but both countries political conditions doesn't allow this.
In my personal opinion i would like to separate sports and politics but that is not the way things work around here which is sad and i do not think there is restriction for any other sports and as long as cricket is used as a political tool you cannot expect India and Pakistan playing each other in a bilateral series nor allowing Pakistan players in the IPL especially when the present government is ruling.

I don't see any clear vision of when can we be able to see IPL.
Three months lock down and the number of patients touches 10k per day and the government has no idea where it will end and they cannot shut everything down, they are opening up the market which is funny it is hard to imagine what the future holds financially.

When you have bigger shit at hands do we really care about the IPL Wink.

Same is happening in Pakistan. When the number of covid 19 case are alarming high, the government should close down and observe a more strict lock down but infact they have opened everything allowing the virus to spread freely than ever before. Sad
I never understand the strategy of both the government of India and Pakistan.
Both Governments are going without any good and strong strategy and doing only political scoring games which are killing innocent peoples and creating financial problems for millions both have same dull minds and nothing serious to do any good thing for lower class peoples this is big difference between developed countries and corrupt countries leadership.

Currently it is not important on how the relations are going on between the both countries. More important thing is how these both countries will deal with the covid 19 situation as more and more people are getting jobless because of this crisis.

The condition is same for all the South Asian countries except Bhutan and Burma. People in these countries are either dying of hunger or because of covid19.  The situation is getting worst everyday and government is helpless.

If a vaccine comes out this year it will still take three years to reach every individual living in this part of the world because of
the population density.

Without the Pakistani players still, IPL is interesting and viewership has not declined. I do not think it will happen in the near future as there is no political will from both sides.

There is only a limited number of slots available for the overseas players as the maximum threshold per playing XI is four. So we have 8 teams right now, and 32 overseas players can regularly feature in the tournament. Considering the current form of Pakistani players, I would say that not many of them would be selected by the IPL teams, even if the option is available. The first preference is for West Indian and Australian players, followed by those from England and South Africa.

Still form or no form because of the rift between these two countries I would still be open and get entertained if Pakistan and India resume their bilateral series. That would benefit both the nation as sponsors and advertisers will be on BCCI'S doorstep. A good way to generate revenue for both nations.

But it is next to impossible now to even think about it.

While ICC is deciding whether to postpone T20 Worldcup next year, BCCI has decided to host IPL this year. Looks like Ganguly doesn't care about ICC's decision anymore Tongue

The BCCI is working on all possible options to ensure that we are able to stage the IPL this year, even if it means playing the tournament in empty stadiums.

While Mumbai is the most corona affected region in India,  Mumbai Indians have decided to start their training from Today under strict guidelines  Lips sealed

This is going to be a historic blunder from the part of the BCCI. The pandemic in India is yet to peak, and with every passing day there is an increase in the new infections. Three of the metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata) are severely affected and the other cities are not faring that well either. They can make preparations only if the situation comes under control, and in my opinion it may take at least four more months.

They are planning to hold it by the end of this year. I assume by that time they are expecting a vaccine to be out as few pharma companies are claiming they will.

The situation has got pretty worsen lately and there is no end to it considering that they have already started easing the lockdown. Till May end India was ranked 11 in the list of countries badly affected by the pandemic but now it is 4th.

For some reason they put up Ian chappell interview, he was basically saying that every board need to stand up against the BCCI. No matter if World cup gets cancel or not, don't send players for IPL and play domestic cricket only..
Gutsy to try and take on the corrupt BCCI, but this isn't the right time to think about these things. All boards need to focus on uniting their efforts to battle COVID.
I don't mind some drama, i might grab the popcorn if it happens hahaha Grin

@akhjob Every former/current cricketer/commentator has tons of free time nowadays so Ian chappell is just being productive.

Yeah present gov had enough power in year 2009 that they banned their participation in IPL, despite sitting at opposition.

I think you mistakenly replaced Chennai with Kolkata. Kolkata with 3000+ infections is not even close compared to other metros. Even Ahmedabad has more infections than Kolkata. And some say this condition is going to last until next year  Undecided

Maybe Ian Chappell holds some grudge with Ganguly because of his brother Greg  Tongue
