I think the second option is the one that ICC and the other boards will be okay with. I still do not understand what do they mean with the first option. It is practically impossible to ask everyone in the crowd for 14 days quarantine,. The fire one is not possible.

Exactly. For the ICC, most of the revenues come from TV rights and sponsorship. Gate collection represents only a very small fraction. Therefore I don't even understand what they are trying to do here. Just for 2% or 3% increase in revenue, are they going to put the lives of tens of thousands of people in danger? Is it that difficult to conduct the matches with zero crowd?

The decision has been taken at the ICC board meeting last Friday shows that they have three options for the upcoming T-20 World Cup.

1) The first option allows crowds with a 14-days quarantine as per the T20 global schedule.
2) The second is that there will be no spectators in any stadium during the T-20 World Cup.
3) The third option is to move the tournament to 2022.

How can they move the tournament to 2022? We already have another T20 World Cup edition scheduled for next year. And I simply don't understand the first option. Crowd, with 14-day quarantine? What do they mean? Are they going to quarantine 30,000 people per match for two weeks? This is the most ridiculous suggestion I have heard since the start of the pandemic. Have they completely lost it?

~edited out~
The first option is an impossible task, you cannot expect every audience to be responsible and place himself in quarantine so that they will be able to watch a match.
~snip~

Yes, as far as I know, ICC has taken the second option.

IMO Source is wrong and article is misleading, there is no such thing "Crowd quarantine for 14 days".

ICC and Cricket boards pushing the idea of quarantine for players before they enter in any country. Cricket Australia, ECB and BCCI already seems to agree with this idea even Indian /English Captain Virat and Joe Root are in favor of this initiative.

The first option is an impossible task, you cannot expect every audience to be responsible and place himself in quarantine so that they will be able to watch a match. The ICC needs to spend more money to monitor every ticket holder and it is not going to happen. The second options is possible but are they prepared to go on with the match without any audience, the third option is realistic as to push the world cup to 2022 but it will be hard for the senior players who are on the verge of retirement.

Yes, as far as I know, ICC has taken the second option. You know that T-20 World Cup is going to be resumed on 18th October. ICC has decided to test corona twice a week to ensure the safety of the players, they will keep all team members in quarantine for 14 days, and there will be no audience in the gallery. All the decisions of the board seem beautiful.

~
So those who want to watch the match should keep themselves in quarantine  and remain away from their jobs, study & business only to watch the match ? How practical is that option ?  Would you be willing to remain idle for 14 days only to watch 4 hours of live cricket in the stadium ?

This option is really ridiculous! Cheesy ICC has announced their schedule according to the second option.

Brilliant suggestion, now they will realise their mistake and start working on the construction of Cricket stadiums at remote location of India. This will not only improve the infrastructure of that location but will also create employment opportunities for the locals.

I would support this suggestion. I am from the Northeastern part of India and would like to see more international quality stadiums here. In the North-west, they have a very beautiful stadium at Dharamshala. Similarly, we can have stadiums in cities such as Gangtok, Imphal and Darjeeling. All these locations have excellent scenery, and the fans would love these places.

Well its looking very good for the T20 world cup to go ahead as planned as the football season in Australia is going to start in June and the AFL have already said that if they need to move the grand final from the MCG because of the world cup then they will move it to another stadium. Lets now hope that Australia is able to keep the virus cases low and we get to see some cricket played on time.

I heard that T20 world cup is likely to be postponed till  2022. Although the decision is not final yet but there are high possibilities that This year’s T20 World Cup may be postponed to 2022. I know it will disappoint many of us including me, if this decision is finalized.

This is very bad news!

If it gets postponed they we have to wait for 24 months for the tournament to happen. Why are the postponing it for 2 years. Why not next year? I enjoy T20 format more than any other format. Nothing is clear but there is a high chance it will get postponed this year.

Due to tight scheduled of the cricket events, it may not be possible for the ICC to conduct the tournament in 2021. I think they should reschedule it to next year even if they have to cancel other tournaments. T20 World cup is important tournament and it should be given preference over other cricket tournaments.

There is another T20 World Cup schedule in 2021, that's why they can't host 2 World cup in 1 years. If it's postponed most probably it will not happen again.

6. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala.

Dharamshala is my fav, it doesn't matter anyway. BCCI looking at Bengaluru, The National Cricket Academy (NCA) is already there and has all the training facilities they need and now it depends on the Karnataka's gov.

Bengaluru is one of the metro cities and large number of cases are being reported from there every day. Therefore I don't think that it will be a good idea to conduct the matches there. The BCCI should have constructed stadiums in North-east India and in places such as Andaman Nicobar Islands. It would have been mutually beneficial for both the parties.

India has already world class stadiums in all major cities , so what is the point to make new stadiums in remote areas ? Also we have limited matches these days so building more stadiums is just a waste of money.
Yes, after 2-3 years if the situation becomes normal and covid-19 completely finishes, only then they can think about it.

I do agree with you....

but with all due respect your response was out of context. BCCI proposing the idea of "islolation camp" for players, not any match per se. So we were discussing that camp thingy..

It is a highly likely situation as the WHO already announced that the virus will be here to stay for a few years, i do not take what they say on face value as they changed their opinions several times during the past several months. Since all of the proposed tournaments are shifted to indefinite dates and there is no clue as to when everything becomes normal, it is a decision they have to take either way rather than moving the tournament without any foresight of when everything can be resumed.

Due to tight scheduled of the cricket events, it may not be possible for the ICC to conduct the tournament in 2021. I think they should reschedule it to next year even if they have to cancel other tournaments. T20 World cup is important tournament and it should be given preference over other cricket tournaments.
Even in this situation the economic situation will play a major hand, In ICC tournaments majority of the share goes to the ICC but the other tournaments the share belongs to the parent country where the tournament is conducted.

The BCCI should have constructed stadiums in North-east India and in places such as Andaman Nicobar Islands. It would have been mutually beneficial for both the parties.
If anyone anticipated a virus shutting the entire world, they would have taken steps to prevent it. BCCI spends money only if they think it will be worth the investment and more over it is a ecological sensitive area and hence it is impossible to get permission to built a stadium.

I have seen many suggestion taking the IPL to other countries and even Sri Lankan cricket board invited from what i read. It is not safe to carry on any tournaments in India because we all know the situation is getting worse on a daily basis.

This is some positive news and if things only get better across the world then it will be beneficial as else people from various countries would be coming to see the world cup and their is high chances of having active cases if still by then Covid 2019 vaccine is not found. So either they will only have to allow players and not any international audiences in order to restrict any such issues which may persists in future.

Props to Australia..

Safe to say if it happens then every team might go for 14 days isolation camp before the WC (in Australia), to avoid any mishap.
