I having problems with talkimg?

What’s wrong with this pricture?

The image is this one:

The image is not too big, so what is the error?

I just downloaded the first picture from your list and it is too big. It is 3.0 Mb while maximum allowed size for image is 2.5 Mb. So you should reduce its size a little if you want it to be shown on the forum.

P.S. The one which is uploaded to ibb.co is just 215.8 Kb and that's why is shown without any problems.

This is a good explanation, but usually talkimg gives you error when you try to upload a too big file.
It is actually quite picky with image size, so I don’t understand why I let me upload this file.
Any reason for this?

I’m surprised this image issue on the forum is still not resolved beyond asking users to find ways to replace all their image links. I’m curious why this is a thing, but I assume it’s that nobody wants to put in the work to fix it without benefitting personally, otherwise it would have been fixed months ago. Am I going to have to fix all my own image links or is the forum going to do it at some point in the future? I have switched to using talking for new image posting.

Well I think we can argue that if this image hosting issue is actually an "issue" related to bitcointalk and should be solved by bitcointalk administration aka theymos. Because bitcointalk never asked anyone to use imgur for image hosting and it's a serious question let's suppose if theymos is able to solve this "imgur" issue somehow,  what if after sometime another service like imbb or talkimg goes down?

Like few others pointed out modifying user's posts for example changing img tags to links or updating the links to talkimg that's not an ideal solution to be honest.

I see there's one post from satoshi also that has broken images which is pointing to bitcoin.org, should theymos solve this too?

Yes I believe this is the responsibility of user himself to solve this issue. Community has come up with pretty clever solutions like running a simple "magic script" that will shift all your images to other hosting of your choice ImgBB or TalkImg.

You can do it page by page or do it all in one go.

I have done same for some of my posts which I felt necessary, others still hanging in the same spot. I will suggest give it a try with TryNinja's Magic Script

I hope you will be active for many years, but maybe you should think about backup alternative solutions in case something happens with you.
To prevent losing of all images maybe you should consider giving access to one or two trusted forum members, so they can continue your work if you are unable to do it.
I don't know if theymos did the same thing with bitcointal forum, but I would give the same suggestion to him. Wink

You may not believe it, but I think about it very often! Although there is someone who can continue, but it is external to the forum.
I have to analyze this issue in depth and see which users I could trust in such a situation.

Thanks for running this service, its very useful.   For me the main thing is convenience and ease of use, my usage is mostly just charts and I dont mind any reduction so long as the scale and text is legible on this forum at a normal size.
1024x1024 should be ok for me, I dont normally want to fill the page with an image unless it has the small text requiring that level of detail mostly its just the shape and pattern of the chart.    An option for people is a display image here but link to a full size large image, most wont click that link or require that detailed traffic use.

@joker_josue not sure if this feature request has come forward but is it possible to have the upload album feature integrated into TalkImg ??

If you have a TalkIng account, you can create public albums, and share the link to these albums with anyone you want.
To have an account, just send a PM.  Wink

I have used Imgur and Imgbb too many times,  and it didn't create a problem yet, but from now I will try to use this new website too.
I like its new look, and the interface it provides is amazing. That would be quite nice to use it and as you have already mentioned that especially bitcointalk users can use it, but I will also tell others, that they can also use it without any hesitation if they are facing some problem in Imgur or Imgbb. And there are many other websites too through which we can get the image links.

The service is great, I have been using it since the first days and it is not only super intuitive to use, but very convenient too (you simply drag the file, you get the BBCode...). Brilliant.

But as it's creator just said, take into account that as per now it is not built to work outside the forum. Who knows in the future Wink

I would just like to point out the fact that the site is configured so that images only work on Bitcointalk, plus one or two exceptions related to the forum. Therefore, use on other websites is not recommended, as the images may stop working at any time.

Actually reducing to a 1024x1024 aspect ratio seems adequate to me, for most cases. I am going to try.
You can also add option on Talkimg website when people try to upload larger size images they would receive message asking user to resize image to specific ratio or to allow automatic resizing.
I don't think this would be hard to implement since there is already tool for resizing on Talkimg, that would save time for everyone.
One example of image I talked about before that is around 6mb file size, after I did manual resize on my computer to 1000 pixels, image size shrinked to only 162 Kb.

Can't you base the size reduction on the actual size? Or just fit it in 1024x1024 (but keep the aspect ratio), that should be enough for most forum posts.

I may try this method. They hadn't thought about that.

Yeah I resize a lot of images. One thing I find is if I shrink to

2.1-2.4 mb some times it still says too big.

I manually re size to 1600 by 900 which always works.

Of course it is slower.

The compression method being used is by reducing the image size by 50%. But, if after this reduction, the file continues to be larger than 2.5MB, it will give this error. I have to find a way to resolve this issue.

Webp would help alot with the compression, sadly this forum doesn't support it though.
