Doesn't this get much worse when Cloudflare goes into "full DDOS protection"? Without Tor, I also get the "Checking connection" page when I click "All". But when Cloudflare is going nuts, I get that page a lot more.
I sometimes browse the forum from clear net as a guest and having "Checking connection" is regular when I am trying to read "All" posts at once. It's a pain but despite crying for even over years, we accepted this phenomenal that we have no other choice. The main man is not going to spend money for us to avoid CF.

Bitcointalk use CloudFlare and i use Tor Browser to visit this forum while rarely asked to solve captcha with 2 exception,
1. Captcha at login page which intentionally added by admin.
2. When i click "All" page.

A dedicated server is indeed quite expensive, but a VPS shouldn't have to be. You're not using much bandwidth and storage, and I assume the CPU usage isn't that much either.

This is the information I am collecting, to make a more viable decision.

How about using CloudFlare (just like what Bitcointalk does) which have option to allow user who use Tor?

Does CloudFlare help you avoid these repetitive captchas, based on your experience with Tor?

I snapped that image on my mobile, tried to upload, it gave me an error: “too big”.
I have a shortcut on my iPhone that reduces the size of an image. I used it, got a new picture, and uploaded it on the website.
Direct website, no VPN, no sorceries.
I copied the link, fail on Bitcointalk.org post preview.
I tried again a few times,(I hit ”new upload”) I got different image codes, so something happened, but all of them failed.

Because this iPhone system must "elude" the script, ending up uploading the larger image.
I was unaware of this situation, and I regret the inconvenience caused.

I have been blocked many times by your script. Actually so many I even created a shortcut so I can automatically reduce the size of a picture and meet forum requirement (and I even remember asking you to develop this function server side).
This is the first time an overload picture smuggled beyond the size checkpoint...

The best solution would be to switch to a dedicated server/VPS. But, to maintain the same characteristics, it would cost twice as much.

Maybe a .onion domain would work for TalkImg? I wouldn't know how to set it up for you though.

I've already been investigating what I could do, and I would practically have to set up a new website that would only work on onion.
What I would have to do was make a clone of the current site, then I would have to try to configure it so that it hosts the images on clear net.
In reality, you would end up having 2 independent services/sites instead of one.

The best solution would be to switch to a dedicated server/VPS. But, to maintain the same characteristics, it would cost twice as much. And as you can imagine, when I launched the project, I didn't want to make large investments, because I had no idea of the impact it would have. In this sense, if the project continues to evolve positively as it has done so far, and really receives support from the community, I will be able to adjust the server.

Perhaps in the future, changes in this regard may arise, if community support continues to be felt, and which could allow for a greater investment.
I don't think this is something that should require a larger investment, but I wouldn't know how to solve it in your case. Loyce.club is now behind AWS' Cloudforce (after the DDOS it received a while ago), and it still works in Tor browser without problems.
My other data is still without any DDOS protection. As theymos wrote:
The Internet is seriously flawed if everyone needs to huddle behind these huge centralized anti-DDoS companies in order to survive...

I tried to reproduce uploading fillippone's large image, but I got another problem:
~~
Can you create a "captcha bypass code" (like the forum)?

Unfortunately, this type of situation occurs in the Tor browser. Since it is a configuration on the server, which I cannot change, due to the type of contract with the hosting company. I apologize for this situation, but at the moment I can't do much more in this regard.

Did you have this image on your device or am I going to look for it on another site?
You use the site directly, or did you use my zip system?

This is a good explanation, but usually talkimg gives you error when you try to upload a too big file.
It is actually quite picky with image size, so I don’t understand why I let me upload this file.
Any reason for this?

That's a good question. I guess something happened with the service, so let's wait for joker_josue's answer. Truly, there's a rule on his service preventing uploading files bigger that 2.5 Mb. Really strange that it let you upload a file of 3 Mb.

You did an incredible feat. I tried, even with administrator powers and I couldn't upload this image!   Shocked
Honestly, I've already looked at all the settings and everything is fine, the limit is 2.5MB.

The only explanation I can find is that there was an error in loading the script and it allowed the image to be upload.

There are sites which will reduce image size for you, try a change in format as some are bulky.   Even Mspaint might help in this regard but I have another forum that requires 20kb max and I often made this mistake as you cant be sure till its online.   Imgur will reduce sizes sometimes not sure where they limit.

Copy and paste can accidentally increase the image size back as its then raw data ?   might be part of why.

The other factor is actual display of the size as data itself, some displays are inaccurate and use a flat 1000 instead of actual binary to the power of 2.

I having problems with talkimg?

What’s wrong with this pricture?

The image is this one:

The image is not too big, so what is the error?

I just downloaded the first picture from your list and it is too big. It is 3.0 Mb while maximum allowed size for image is 2.5 Mb. So you should reduce its size a little if you want it to be shown on the forum.

P.S. The one which is uploaded to ibb.co is just 215.8 Kb and that's why is shown without any problems.

I’m surprised this image issue on the forum is still not resolved beyond asking users to find ways to replace all their image links. I’m curious why this is a thing, but I assume it’s that nobody wants to put in the work to fix it without benefitting personally, otherwise it would have been fixed months ago. Am I going to have to fix all my own image links or is the forum going to do it at some point in the future? I have switched to using talking for new image posting.

Well I think we can argue that if this image hosting issue is actually an "issue" related to bitcointalk and should be solved by bitcointalk administration aka theymos. Because bitcointalk never asked anyone to use imgur for image hosting and it's a serious question let's suppose if theymos is able to solve this "imgur" issue somehow,  what if after sometime another service like imbb or talkimg goes down?

Like few others pointed out modifying user's posts for example changing img tags to links or updating the links to talkimg that's not an ideal solution to be honest.

I see there's one post from satoshi also that has broken images which is pointing to bitcoin.org, should theymos solve this too?

Yes I believe this is the responsibility of user himself to solve this issue. Community has come up with pretty clever solutions like running a simple "magic script" that will shift all your images to other hosting of your choice ImgBB or TalkImg.

You can do it page by page or do it all in one go.

I have done same for some of my posts which I felt necessary, others still hanging in the same spot. I will suggest give it a try with TryNinja's Magic Script

I hope you will be active for many years, but maybe you should think about backup alternative solutions in case something happens with you.
To prevent losing of all images maybe you should consider giving access to one or two trusted forum members, so they can continue your work if you are unable to do it.
I don't know if theymos did the same thing with bitcointal forum, but I would give the same suggestion to him. Wink

You may not believe it, but I think about it very often! Although there is someone who can continue, but it is external to the forum.
I have to analyze this issue in depth and see which users I could trust in such a situation.

I say again that, whatever depends on me, this project will last many, many years. And your support is only helping in this regard.  Wink
