 Statistics  October 2024____________________
Despite the complications that have been occurring in recent days, the project is alive and will continue. Proof of this was that in October we reformed the talkimg.com domain until 2030. Does this mean that the plans are only until 2030? Obviously not! We will reform the domain as good business opportunities arise. Probably in 1 or 2 years, we will renew again for more years.

This month I had also planned to start with the list of the most viewed images from the previous month. But, because of the events of the last few days, I will wait a bit to start with this list. I believe you will like what was planned, but you will have to wait a little longer.

That said, and despite the complications, here are the statistics for October. Thank you for your support.

Here are the numbers for the month:

Number of uploads in the month:
7 925 (+374 that in the last month)

Total disk space in the month:
2.3GB (-0.03 that in the last month)
Number of visits to the talkimg.com website in the month: 6 469 (+148 that in the last month)
Estimated number of times images were viewed on the forum in the month (hits): 2 130 501 (+148k that in the last month)
Bandwidth in the month: 495GB (+92GB that in the last month)

Just another small update.

As I'm changing hosts, I want to do everything as carefully as possible, which is why I'm still in the configuration phase.

More information coming soon. Thanks for understanding.

If the attack is still going on in a few days, I'll consider measures like these:
...
 - Bitcointalk.org could add support for uploading images directly.
Or use talkimg api to upload images on bitcointalk using a button on forum's wysiwyg text editor, this can be done without going to talkimg website, thus it will look like uploading images directly on bitcointalk. Though this will require development and developer's resources.

Right now it is asking me to login without sign up. Really it is frustrating someone.

I think you should consider using other image hosting sites for now till joker_josue find a possible solution.

Exactly.  It isn't a big deal to use imgbb until Joker gets this all figured out, which I'm sure he will.  While it is nice to let him know when things go wrong, he is very actively working on this situation so we all just need to give him patience and use an alternative in the meantime.  Not the end of the world and it shows how valued his service is here.  Until Bitcointalk starts hosting their own images, 3rd party services like this are extremely beneficial for this community and Joker is great to put in so much time for us.
Yea, I'm with joker on this and I believe everything will return to normalcy. I remember when Imgur struck the forum and all links became invalid, joker's service gave us a resounding relief. Now he's fixing things up, we need be with him and provide all the necessary support. Besides, we have someone fixing the bug and reporting to us here in the forum, if it's a random hosting service, we might not even figure out if the issue would be solved because there won't be any frequent feedback.

The move may take longer, due to the amount of data to be copied, more than 50GB.
I'd expect rsync to do that in less than an hour.

Not always, sometimes it can take a while.
https://www.resilio.com/blog/rsync-large-number-of-files

In this case I believe it is something quick, but then I have to check if everything is operational, before making the final change.

It's been a few hours without sleep, and life doesn't stop. So everything has to be well managed, to be done well.  Wink
I almost feel your stress from having to fix this bug for the rest of the community to be able to have the BBCodes back to normalcy. It’s sure taking so much of you and I appreciate your not giving up too easy but rather putting in effort and resource to ensure we make the most of our use of the forum.
I have been paused on uploading images of late, don’t want to go into testing and complications until it’s all worked out and until then, your doing great Joker_Josue.

I'm working on a solution to the problem, which will most likely involve changing hosts.

During this period, we hope that it will be possible to keep all images visible on the forum for as long as possible.
Copy everything to the new host, setup everything, then change DNS records. That shouldn't give any downtime, right?

Exactly. If everything goes as planned, no image displays will be affected by this change.

 Info  Pause in uploads____________________
Based on recent events, we will begin the server change process. During this period we will pause new image uploads to avoid data loss.

Since the content of the site is extensive, there may be some delay in restoring the entire service, but we will try to be as quick as possible.

During this period, we hope that it will be possible to keep all images visible on the forum for as long as possible.

We appreciate your understanding.

Too Little, Too Late.
Initially I thought about that too. But I noticed the following points:
- The sequence is always the same, 30~40 minutes, I experience spikes in requests for about 20 minutes. It would take many forum users to be using this pattern.
- In the last half hour, for several minutes it received +2M requests. Do you think there were 20k users viewing the pumpkins page at the same time?
- In that half hour, a single IP made more than 600k requests. Does this mean that there were 6k forum users, using the same service and doing exactly the same thing?
- Outside of these peaks, requests hover around 1k or less. Users should flee the forum.

Interestingly, it only affects access to the website, that is, if you go directly to the website you feel this instability, but even during these peaks you can continue to see the pumpkins normally.

I really find this behavior very strange. I've kind of lost trust in the host I'm using, unfortunately. In these types of things, we have to feel confident, to be comfortable. Therefore, I am already studying the change of host. It may not be better, but it certainly won't be worse.

it's quite clear that some prick is targeting you specifically with this DDoS attack. what i don't understand is, what does he have to gain from this?
and it's still going on right now, i can't connect to the website at all

Do you think accessing +100 images at once like in the pumpkin thread with multiple users can cause high load in traffic on your server or not at all? I feel like it's the same as bots accessing the site for +100 for 1-5 seconds gap.

Unfortunately, spikes in access still occur. Basically the attack continues in a well-coordinated way (I honestly don't know how normal this is). Every 30/40 minutes I experience spikes in requests, which last about 20 minutes. So, often, during these moments, it becomes difficult to access the website or upload.

TalkImg.com image uploading is not working right now. I have been trying to upload an image for more than 2 hours now but it is not working. And it shows, no file has been uploaded, some errors have occurred and the system couldn't process your request.
Then I screenshot the error page again so I can use it to make comment here, the same thing. So I want you to visit the website.
