Wawrinka still showing good quality tennis even at this age and we can expect more from him in the next 1-2 years max.

Yes, he still shows good tennis. But I am not sure how much longer his body will keep up.

In any case, the final is Medvedev versus Fritz. Fritz had some problems with Norrie and could only win the semifinal in the third set in a tiebreak 10:6. Medvedev now has every chance of winning the tournament again, just like in 2019.
Wawrinka played good, but we can't expect the same to happen with other matches. Age factor is a big thing, because big number of young players are at their best. To stand against them is really hard thing that to for 1-2 years is not gonna happen. He keeps up his old game which is the good part amidst his age.

But there were two surprises: Wawrinka won against Rublev and Tsitsipas lost against Norrie. Considering that Wawrinka is already 37 years old, that was a strong performance.

These two results were really unexpected. I did not expect Wawrinka and Norrie to win these two matches. But I think we can say that when we look at the skill level of their opponents, that’s when we think they should not have won this match. But when we look at the condition of their opponents, Rublev, and Tsitsipas, I think this loss somehow makes a bit of sense, to be honest. Because they were not in the most ideal shape. But Wawrinka actually defied the odds to win the match. This was a remarkable performance from him considering his age.

Indeed, the format is unusual. But this tournament is certainly a change from training for the players. Zverev lost the match against Medvedev 0:6 and 4:6. But it was clear that he would not win after this long break. But it was important for him to be able to play.

when my country's commentator was commenting on this game he said something like: "Medvedev was one of the disappointments this year", then he continued commenting, and the other commentators started to laugh at his comment, but somehow he may have partially reason Medvedev wasn't in better shape this season, but another surprise was Rublev's defeat and as for Tsitsipas winning the game against Norrie I wasn't surprised, next game will be Medvedev against Wawrinka, I believe that Medvedev has a good chance to win this game, but if I had a chance to bet, I wouldn't bet on this game

Yes the Diriyah Tennis Cup just kicked off today, it's a 3 day event with a lot of Big names
in attendance.

This will be beneficial I recon for Zverev, Thiem and Wawrinka but yea Thiem has
already lost to Zverev. Wawrinka has beaten Berrettini and plays Medvedev next after
beating Rublev also and Medvedev beat Zverev.

TBH it's been a big day of action which I don't fully understand the format.
Yeah, the matches were played between the 12 big names of Tennis. Three days to have some power packed matches from the top players. As said the format isn't understanding, and for today the singles and doubles matches are being played. It completely looks like an compliment event conducted in Saudi Arabian Town Diriyah.

Alexander Zverev is back after 7 months. Today he played against the Austrian Thiem at the show tournament in Saudi Arabia. The Round 1 is played in match tiebreak. He won this round in 2 sets with 10-8 and 10-7. Now he will play the next rount against Medvedev. From round 2 onwards it will be played in 2 sets as usual.
I am happy that he can play tennis again and hopefully he will be back in the top ten soon.

Hi Tennis posters

Obviously in the ATP and WTA there are no tournaments happening. We can be sure most
of the players are hard at work training for the new season.

There are still lower tournaments happening at Challenger and ITF levels, just wondering if anyone
is betting on these?

Also is or has anyone done the simulated betting?

about de Minaur it's interesting this statistics:

                               2016   2017   2018   2019   2020   2021   2022
Year-end ranking   349      208      31      18      23      34      24
He has a superb season on 2016/2017, and later a really impressive result reaching atp rank 31th on 2018 and 18th on 2019!
After this he has two years with slow decline with 23th/34th place in 2020/2021.
Nowadays he seems again on track at 24th place. However I think he is a strong player that can be a top 10 players in the next few years. It still has to explode its full potential, that's for sure.
They are interesting stats, it seems like he has reached a kind of limit and cannot progress
towards to top 10, or maybe that other players are doing more than him and have overtaken him
like Tiafoe who leapfrogged him into 19 position, this does seem like if he has the talent he needs
to work harder and possibly develop other aspects of the game to rise with other players.
It's altogether very interesting and really comes down to finer details like the mental side
of the game.

I feel like the improvement was hindered when he started taking things a little easier, especially after he had moved up through the ranks, very fast, and got into the 18th rank. He has to understand that the work that he had to do when he jumped from 208 to 31 rank, he will have to do much more work to get to the top 10 positions or higher. This is why it is so critical for him to be in the top 10 because that is when he is entering elite level competitions.

It’s like we see things being done in a video game. It is easy to beat hundreds of pawns but it is really hard to beat one king. Right now, things are looking rosy for him. He has started to improve. So, I think next year the expectations are going to be higher for him.

De Minaur actually has to improve. And he will also have to become very consistent in his performance. The reason being is that if he does not do this, even if he has really remarkable talent, he will not be able to produce the results that will propel him to the top of his field.

And I say that he has to improve because he does not have a stellar record against the top 5 players in tennis right now. So obviously he has to improve his performance. And consistency is a must for any player. There is no replacement for consistency in a player's career. In most cases, only having potential is not enough for a person to succeed.

Big win for the Canada team!!!
They achieved a good result and actually it was quite possible as a prediction...
I played a couple of live bets on Felix Auger-Aliassime because the difference between him and De Minaur was pretty clear. Too bad for de Minaur, his performances are not those of a player of his skill Sad
De Minaur is indeed a talented player, he is still young at 23 and is ranked 24. Is he a top
10 player? there is a lot of quality players he needs to leap frog, from where he is there is
a very talented top 20 players like Tiafoe, Berrettini, Sinner, Norrie and Rune before getting
into the top 10.
There are a lot o potential on Alex De Minaur and I will admit that I'm a fan of him in the beginning. Unfortunately, he has a tough matches against top 5 players, but he had his first success against Medvedev,
https://www.tennis.com/news/articles/stat-of-the-day-alex-de-minaur-who-was-0-18-vs-top-5-defeats-medvedev
And so I think it will be very difficult for him to crack top 10 or even top 5. He just need to be mentally tough and be consistent to be able to break around that rankings.

It obviously harder to get from 24 to 10 than it is to get into the top 50 for example
and harder still to make it into the top 10. The talent gets better and better the higher
you climb.

Which players being De Minaur will likely enter the top 20 in 2023?

One that stands out for me is Tommy Paul, he had a really strong finish to the season.

and I think we need to reserve a spot on at least the top 20 for Dominic Thiem !

Being young and within the top 25 will surely land him into the top 10, if he was able to continue his kind of game without getting into injuries. With tennis players, injury is a big thing that could completely change the career progress. More talented young players keeps emerging, so it is the younger generation of tennis. If I'm not wrong, all that mentioned sits down to the age of 30.

There is plenty of tennis in the Davis cup. It was quite an exciting match. I also read something about Canada, that they would go to the final as a lucky loser, but I have no idea what that is based on. Maybe that's because they were still allowed in the schedule because a country has withdrawn, for example? The next Grand Slam is the Australian open in January, in which all eyes will be on Djokovic. He is finally allowed to participate in the tournament again. He will have many fans but also the necessary opponents due to his attitude in the corona era.
