Medvedev himself experienced perhaps more emotions than he did to Zverev 3 days ago. It is really difficult to lose a match when you are leading 2-0 in sets. Especially if it is the championship final, it is even more difficult. Sinner showed a great example of struggle. It is not easy to turn the match from 2-0 against an opponent like Medvedev, but Sinner managed to do it.
Young tennis players who will make their mark on the future are coming. Alcaraz and Sinner are candidates to be the Nadal and Djokovic of the future. I will watch them with excitement.

Yeah, I didn't watch the first 3 sets (was playing football), but we sat for a drink after it and it was kinda obvious that Sinner will turn things around.
I don't know how Medvedev got 10 breeak points in the first 2 sets, I recall only 1 in the last 2 sets and that was calmly taken care off by Sinner.

I'm glad he won it, I've been telling everybody how good he actually is for the last 2-3 years. He's finally starting to show it - and he's still got room to improve. I hope he pushes Alcaraz for the no. 1 spot.
Jannik Sinner, who won his first grand slam title in this tournament, to tell you the truth, upset the tennis romantics, including me, a little bit. First he completely paralysed djokovic in the semifinals, djokovic was eliminated without even a break of serve point. His opponent in the final, Medvedev, is not from the generation of the nadal-federer-djokovic big three, but he is one of the stars of the next generation, which we can make a trio as medvedev-zverev-berrettini, and he has been playing in such finals for years. When Sinner didn't show any presence at all in the first two sets of the final match, I was in a good mood, there are still some points for him to improve, but what did this guy do; he took the next three sets and won the match. Jokes aside, it was a great success for him and I enjoy this fresh breath in tennis.

Medvedev served like a machine in the first two sets and Sinner made too many unforced errors when he had the chance for a proper return.

But Medvedev did include some variations into his game that he usually does not do. I was quite surprised by his tactics in that game, but I was also quite surprised by Sinner's inability to adjust to these circumstances. Sinner is a player who can adapt to new game situations, but whatever he tried during the first two sets (like stopballs), it didn't work out for him.

But then out of a sudden Medvedev lost strength. I have barely seen him being that exhausted and that was the turning point in the game.

I wonder what the odds were on him when he went 2 sets down to Medvedev?

@4.6 took them without hesitation. tail end of second set already showed that Sinner finally started playing and he was the player in the best form during whole AO. I mean before today he only lost 2 games on his serve and he played 4 sets against Djoković.

Was writing about it, but in different thread:

Good hit man, well done.
I was very surprised it even came to a 0:2. My prediction was an easy 3:0 or 3:1 win for Sinner, guess Medvedev had something to say about that, haha.
Anyway, once Sinner got the 3rd set the odds makers gave almost even odds . it was a great match if you like dramatics and comeback for sure, worth a finals game.

I want to emphasize again about the great performance of Su Wei Hsieh in these Australian open. Winning both the mixed and the woman's doubles is a great achievement, especially when being 38 years old. She must be one of the most humple people on the tour and I had the pleasure of meeting her 2 years ago in Taipei. Just a great person and an even better player!

Gentlemen, big day today! Sinner is taking on Medvedev in 2024 AO final. The Italian was pretty convincing throughout the tournament, eliminating Novak Djokovic himself on the way to the final. However, Medvedev shouldn't be underestimated - he also played very well in Melbourne this year, defeating top players like Zverev. The Russian has more GS experience, particularly playing in the later stages, like finals. Not sure if this is going to help him and will be enough to come out victorious in today's final battle. I placed a tiny bet on Jannik because I'm not quite sure of the outcome, despite bookies considering him an overwhelming favourite.

This was probably one of the best comebacks that I have ever seen in my life. And this was also probably one of the best comebacks ever made by Sinner. Medvedev was about to win the match, only if he got one more set. He won the first 2 sets and was looking very confident. But Sinner made a really good comeback and actually won the match in the end. The final score was

Sinner  3 3 6 6 6
Medvedev  6 6 4 4 3

Congratulations to Sinner for being able to win the Australian Open final.

Well its definitely the best comeback by Jannik thats for sure, we have seen Djokovic
give his opponent a 2 set leat in a grand slam before so its always special to see that.

Jannik has worked hard on his mental fortitude and self belief and today is the ultimate
reward for that. He deserves that win for sure.

actually the odds for final win of Sinner are @1.34/1.40 really low considering this is a SLAM Finals against a not-underdog. At least on paper, bookmakers are taking an high risk on Medvedev... The italian guy has been strong during the whole tournament, I hope he has not "the stress" feeling like other important finals.
Anyway, be ready for a great show !

Jannik Sinner managed to get his first Grand Slam title even though his performance this time was not very smooth, especially in the first and second sets, but everything changed in the third to fifth sets.
Daniil Medvedev seemed to have lost his energy after entering the third set because his power began to decline quite significantly, his final performance was quite bad because five times in the final he only managed to lift the trophy once and in this final same when he lost to Rafael Nadal.
Seeing Jannik Sinner's appearance which is developing very rapidly, it seems that attention is starting to shift to him after Carlos Alcaraz experienced quite a decline after winning Wimbledon and what might be highly anticipated is the grand slam final between Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz but Novak Djokovic cannot just be forgotten because of the defeat in the semifinals The Australian Open is not the end of his career and usually he will come back stronger after such a painful defeat

Great comeback from Medvedev. Zverev was very close to reaching the final. But Medvedev still managed a turnaround. In any case, it was a great semi-final. Both were great. And Zverev can be proud of himself. He has made great progress in the last few weeks and he can build on that.

So now we have a final that nobody would have expected. I hope now that Sinner will win the final.

I think almost everybody expected that Djokovic would be in the final and his most likely opponent was Alcaraz. We will have a new grandslam champion but no idea who to bet on. I didn’t really follow any matches and it will be probably be a pretty close match.

Ladies final tomorrow. Sabalenka is going to face Zheng. Last year's AO champ is a favourite of course, but the young Chinese can shock the tennis world by beating WTA #2. Belarussian is showing perhaps the best women's tennis since Serena. She is more experienced and has more titles, including GS.

What worries me the most is the slight performance drop Sabalenka showed in a match against Gauff. She lost momentum and was kind of hesitant , confused and lost her focus a bit. If something similar will happen tomorrow vs Zheng, she could potentially lose the match.

A kind of predictable result looking back, Sabalenka is too strong ATM. The final score
looks like an easy match for her 3-6, 2-6 in 76 minutes.  I dont think there is anyone who
can trouble her this year.

I believe Zheng is going into the top 10 and Sabalenka is closing in on the #1 position
to put pressure on Swiatek.

It was definitely an easy match for her. She did not have to work that hard to win this match. And yes I will also say that the result was kind of predictable. Well, I expected the match to be a little more competitive. Because this was a final, I did not expect the match to be so easy for her. But at the same time, I understand why this kind of result has happened. Congratulations to Sabalenka.

today final match woman single asutralia terbuka
Qinwen Zheng vs zabalenka.
surprisingly Qinwen Zheng was able to step up to the final of the Australian Open Grand Slam. whether Qinwen, who is ranked 15 WTA, can complete her surprise by defeating Zabalenka, who is ranked 2 WTA.
I think my prediction is that Qinwen will be able to keep up with Zabalenka's game.
maybe this match will run tight until 3 games.
because Qinwen's performance is good again.
Several top players who were eliminated in the second and third rounds, especially those in the same draw as Zheng Qinwen, made it easier for her to advance to the final, this is not to demean her but it did help her quite a bit and she is one of the women's tennis players who is developing quite fast but is not yet capable enough to face the pressure in Grand Slam final, service looked bad in the second set and that gave Sabalenka a lot of points.
Aryna Sabalenka managed to defend the title which was extraordinary because in the opening tournament this year she lost quite easily in the final to Rybakina but at the Australian Open she played better and better, becoming champion without dropping a single set and her only toughest opponent here was Coco Gauff.

Men's final Sinner vs Medvedev, Sinner is his favorite and is quite far away, but Medvedev won't be easy for him to overcome and of course Medvedev doesn't want to fail for the second time in the Australian Open final because several years ago he failed to get it after two sets ahead of Nadal but Nadal managed to come back, my prediction is that this will be a match of more than three sets.

Djokovic's loss was unexpected, but let such a superstar have the luxury of losing a few matches in his career, right? I think it's the first time he lost in the semifinals at the Australian Open. I was expecting Djokovic and Medvedev in the final. Djokovic didn't make it but Medvedev came from 2-0 down to reach the final. I think he deserves the tournament. I won't be upset if Sinner also wins, another young and successful tennis player is coming to the big leagues. We will be watching them for a long time after the Big 3 quit, so we need to get used to these finals.

Actually after I saw the first 2 rounds of Sinner I had a feeling he might go all the way, if he can overcome Djokovic. And well, we have all sees how he destroyed the Joker without facing 1 break point.
Medvedev made a good comeback of course, but also because Zverev let him. The mistakes he suddenly made were inexcusable but also very typical for him.
Honestly I already expected this after he lost the 3rd after Alcarez but he "finally" did it.

In German news I now saw some excuses like he had a fever the night before and got some injections to made his toes numb. Don't know if that's actually the truth or just some story now the explain his collapse in this game.

Anyway, I got Sinner. He showed no weakness the whole tournament and I would not be surprised if he gets a clear win like 3:0 or 3:1 in the final.

What stood out for me in this tournament is Hsieh Su-wei, the Taiwanese tennis player competing in the woman's doubles and mixed doubles. Yesterday she won the title in the mixed and today she is playing the woman's doubles final as well. Before the tournament she was on a "trying to find a partner" list for the mixed, which is so ridiculous. How does a doubles player of her caliber not have players lined up to play with her.
Anyway, I am really happy for her to play this great in these Australian Open, she totally deserves it and is as humble as they come!

what a comeback by Medvedev
always thought of him as player that can't do comeback, can just lose what he has on him, but he proved my wrong

TBH, both SF matches finished unexpectedly for me, can't say that I envisioned Djokovic vs Zverev in final, but both were my favorites to come through
and Zverev was really close to pass into final, but missed out on crucial points in both tie-breaks

will be an interesting final, and Sinner is a favorite, IMO

This was definitely a very good comeback by Medvedev. I was actually surprised to see this comeback from him. I did not think he would actually be able to win. But he definitely proved a lot of people wrong including me.

Now he is going to face Sinner in the final. I wonder how he is going to do in the final. He should be really confident at this moment after the performance that he had shown in the last match in the semi-final. Because there was no way anyone thought he would be able to win. But he pulled it off

Regards

Duke
