Ostapenko won this tournament quite easily in my opinion and relatively only when facing C. Tauson he faced tough resistance, the rest could be said to be easy, and she will go straight to Abu Dhabi and this is a tournament that is mostly participated by top players, at least some of the top 10 players are guaranteed playing so that Ostapenko will face more difficult matches here and usually many players actually get bad results when winning the previous tournament.

ATP Montpellier final Bublik vs Coric, this looks like it will be a close three-set match and both have a chance of becoming champions, it's even quite difficult to predict, their meeting last year was won by Bublik but it looks like something will be different this time.

So it's Alexandrova v Ostapenko in the final in Linz. Ostapenko destroyed Paluychenkova earlier today 6:2, 6:3. Ostapenko has been terrific so far this year. She plays her beloved attacking style but the only difference: this season she manages to direct almost all shots into the court. Also very nice serve with lots of aces. She is definitely a favorite in this final.

Indeed thats one of Ostapenko's traits, her attacking style of Tennis but for me there
are two things which she needs to build on or improve, her accuracy and her emotions.
I have noticed from matches I've seen her play last year she had quite a bad attitude
when things were not going her way and I believe that has affected her negatively.

I recon if those two aspects of her play could be addressed she could get
back into the top 10 as a start and try get back to her ATH of 5th.

For todays final she is favourite at 1.56 and Alexandrova is 2.45.

Match is ongoin now, Ostapenko has the capability to win this match. But at the same time, Alexandrova is also not going to be someone who will be able to be easy to beat. She is also a very high ranking player. I think this match is going to be a very competitive one. And I also think that there is a very good chance for Alexandrova to actually beat her opponent because if she can actually make her opponent a little angry, that might be very useful for her.

Anyway, I am expecting this match to be a very competitive one and it is going to be a little heartbreaking if this match is somehow one-sided which I don't think it will be.

Back over at Montpellier France and the Semi Finals are set for the weekend.

Its the top 4 seeds who line up against each other. Its a great result for the tournament
to have their tio seeds survive into the semi's.

Felix AA plays Bublik - Felix is favourite but I think I will back Bublik @ 2.50

Rune plays Coric - cant see odds on this but it will be hard to bet against Rune and TBH
he is looking good for an outright win. Felix and Bublik have struggled a bit this week.

Rune has a nice chance to win the title.

Well he is out! Rune retires in the second set to Coric at 1-4. I wasnt watching this one
but I would be interested to find out the extend of Rune's injury. I've seen him before
retiring when he is losing badly and when it seems he can continue to the end.

Anyway its now a Bublik v Coric final, I fancy Bublik and hoping he wins.

Over on the WTA Linz its a 1 v 2 final, Ostapenko v Alexandrova!

Alexandrova had a tough 3 setter while Ostapenko had a seemingly easy 2 setter!

Tauson needs a breakthrough now. She was predicted to have a very bright career, but she never got there. This may be because of his character. She lacks ambition and Ruusuvuori has a similar situation. If there is no ambition, there is no success, unfortunately. Maybe being born and raised in countries like Denmark and Finland doesn't give you the confidence to fight and a leader's perspective. Ostapenko has been through an intense period and may be tired. Tauson might be fresher in this match and the match could be a challenging performance from both players.

That is what happens a lot! You have a lot of young talents where people predict a great future for but that never make it for various amount of reasons. Many are ambitious and want to make it and win tournaments and grandslams but can be stuck their whole career in the top 100-250. I don't think it has a lot to do with being born and raised in certain countries.

At WTA Linz, also semis day tomorrow:

Donna Vekic will take on Alexandrova, while Pavlyuchenkova will face in-form Ostapenko, who has dispatched Jodie Burrage in straight sets 6:1, 6:2 earlier today.

Interestingly as with the ATP semi's at Montpellier there are 3 top seeds in the Semi's at Linz,
Pavlyuchenkova being unseeded and Ostapenko sitting in the No.1 spot.

Looking at the odds it isnt clear cut who is looking like an outright winner, they are very similar.
Its really hard to make a bet on these.

Vekic 2.75 - 1.74 Alexandrova
Ostapenko 1.86 - 1.95 Pavlyuchenkova

Vekic and Alexandrova are putting on a show right now: each set took them more than an hour 7:5, 6:7, 6:5 atm. Crazy match, both ladies are showing some top-notch tennis and it's hard to tell who is going to win even now! Vekic looks like she's got a little more fuel left in her tank.

Some promising-looking matches at WTA Linz event tomorrow:

Ostapenko v Tauson  Tauson is yet to find her best tennis after the injury. Ostapenko is back into top 10 and looking dangerous and hungry for winning.

Tauson is leading 5:1 in the first set.

I don't think being born in a Nordic country is not much of a hindrance for tennis players. Just to remind you Bjorn Borg is Swedish, Rune is Danish, Ruud is Norwegian.

I don't think it is going to be that hard for Ostapenko to actually beat Yastremska. But it also involves the current form of the player. If she can continue to play well I don't see any reason she is going to have any problems. But the biggest thing is consistency. If she is not consistent she can be beaten by almost anyone.

The thing is there are a lot of matches remaining. So anything can happen in this tournament. You know that the other players are also capable so probably we should not predict anything with certainty already.

Consistency is the main issue with Ostapenko. Her extremely powerful, ATP level shots from the baseline are deadly but sometimes she just can't get them inside the court. That is the reason she plays a lot of 3 set matches. Other than that, she has improved her serve, also fitness is a bit better than previous years. She is a bit overweight, but still moves somewhat better than last year.

Her being overweight is probably going to be a problem for her. Because at the top level; of competition, she will need every aspect to be in favour of her. Not having her own body in the best shape for the match can eventually cost her the match. But it is also true that she has improved her physicality a lot since last year. So I think she also deserves some praise for that. But in my opinion, she definitely could have done better

I think we are just thinking about this a little too much. Because she is only 21. She has a lot of time ahead of her in her career. So I think there are a lot of chances for her to actually do well. Yes, it is true that she does need a breakthrough. And it is also true that she does need some ambition. But the positive thing is, it is not over for her. She can still do well if she works hard enough.

ATP Montpellier, Aleksander Bublik won in three sets against Dennis Shapovalov, and I was quite surprised that Dennis Shapovalov was outside the top 100 because he is a pretty good player, especially having been to the Wimbledon semifinals a few years ago and it was quite strange to see him unable to maintain his ranking to stay inside top 100.

That was a great game.
Didn't think Bublik would recover after getting crushed in the first set.
The tie break in the second was very entertaining to say the least . 26 points and back and forth with 2 match and 7 set points, with the better end for Bublik obviously.

When you see Shapavalov play you would never think he is number 137 in the world now. He missed like the last 6 months of 2023's season because of his knee, guess that cost him plenty of points.

Yes a great match indeed, Bublik was having a horror show in the first set, his service game was
a shambles early on, after that set I thought he was going to lose the match, his service came
good and managed to take the tie break in the second and then the third set was unbelievable,
even though his first serve wasnt great his shot making was great. I am actually warming to
Bublik even though the first set he was smashing his racket.

So its quarter final time for him tomorrow.

Still in the the mix are the other seeds, Rune1, Felix AA3, Coric4 and Shevchenko6

Just looking at the odds and noticed Cezaux is favourite @ 1.83 against Felix AA @ 2.0, thats a strange one?

Ostapenko is the only top ten players competing in Linz, and this opens up her opportunity to win her second singles title this year after Adelaide, and my prediction is that Yastremska will be one of her strongest opponents if both make it to the final, but sometimes in the women's section, surprises often occur where the unseeded beat the seed and reaches the final, and one more match today which will be quite even is Siniakova vs Burel and it looks like Burel has a better chance of getting to the quarterfinals
If it is true that they will meet in the final then it will be difficult for Ostapenko to beat Yastremska and get the title, so far Ostapenko has played very well but Yastremska also looks more dominant in every match she plays.
This will be quite an interesting final match if only they will meet in the final, after all there are still several matches remaining which will provide surprises like in every previous competition.
If surprise happens, perhaps these two players will not be able to meet in the final and of course it is still too early to say that they will be able to reach the final.
We have to wait to see how their next match will play out so that we can really be sure whether their meeting in the final can happen as predicted.

It just that I have little dependence on Ostapenko that he will be able to win the title.

It was a good comeback by Bublik. And he fought really well to win the second set. When he was able to win the second set I saw the momentum shifting. I also saw Shapovalov being a little disheartened. But it is also true that when you see him play you do not think that he is so low in the ranking. I do not think anyone expected him to perform so well against Bublik. I personally did not think the match would go so far and would be so competitive. I thought Shapovalov might get one set but nothing more than that. Definitely did not expect such competitive performance.
