Djokovic's loss was unexpected, but let such a superstar have the luxury of losing a few matches in his career, right? I think it's the first time he lost in the semifinals at the Australian Open. I was expecting Djokovic and Medvedev in the final. Djokovic didn't make it but Medvedev came from 2-0 down to reach the final. I think he deserves the tournament. I won't be upset if Sinner also wins, another young and successful tennis player is coming to the big leagues. We will be watching them for a long time after the Big 3 quit, so we need to get used to these finals.
Actually after I saw the first 2 rounds of Sinner I had a feeling he might go all the way, if he can overcome Djokovic. And well, we have all sees how he destroyed the Joker without facing 1 break point.
Medvedev made a good comeback of course, but also because Zverev let him. The mistakes he suddenly made were inexcusable but also very typical for him.
Honestly I already expected this after he lost the 3rd after Alcarez but he "finally" did it.
In German news I now saw some excuses like he had a fever the night before and got some injections to made his toes numb. Don't know if that's actually the truth or just some story now the explain his collapse in this game.
Anyway, I got Sinner. He showed no weakness the whole tournament and I would not be surprised if he gets a clear win like 3:0 or 3:1 in the final.
What stood out for me in this tournament is Hsieh Su-wei, the Taiwanese tennis player competing in the woman's doubles and mixed doubles. Yesterday she won the title in the mixed and today she is playing the woman's doubles final as well. Before the tournament she was on a "trying to find a partner" list for the mixed, which is so ridiculous. How does a doubles player of her caliber not have players lined up to play with her.
Anyway, I am really happy for her to play this great in these Australian Open, she totally deserves it and is as humble as they come!
