Hmm.... I've just seen the match between Nole and Sinner. Ended fairly routine for Novak but it was a battle at times. However, Nole was solid in his 1st clay match this season (kept the opponent deep behind the baseline, also did the damage with drop shots). Sinner is already a strong player but maybe not on his favorite surface today (was too nervy ......probably wanted to display his A-game versus world number 1). we can say he burned with desire.

I just checked the scores, 6-4 6-2 so it is a dominating win by Djokovic.

I agree that most of the times, this young players are nervous just to see Djokovic in the others side, so there's this so called intimidation factor. Probably Sinner is more suited for fast surface, but there are a lot of players that is also good.

Nadal against Delbonis, Rafa leading the game. Hurkacz lost the first set again Evans, this is going to be an interesting match to watch if Hurkacz can come back and win the match.

True, but Djokovic is playing outstandingly well. I think he will gain the lead in Grand Slam wins very soon. Will be interesting to see him face Nadal this tourney. I just saw Federer delayed his comeback. Anyone knows when he will return to the tour?

Yes I agree, Djokovic will most likely end he's career as the top grand slam winner if he can stay fit and healthy. We have seen this many times when the young players come up against Djokovic, Nadal and Federer, they play good early on in the match but they can not sustain it through out the whole match. The class of these players always seems to find a way to win matches even when they are down. That is why they are hard to beat and also the young players don't seem to have the mental toughness to win matches even when they are in a winning position in the match.

I was hoping that we would see Federer play however I'm thinking that he is waiting for the grass court season as that is he's favourite court and it will be less stress on he's aging body.

It wasn't that simple match or as they tend to say "one way traffic"
Please check the stats: Djokovic 5/10 break points;  Sinner 2/4

Jannick Sinner is not an easy opponent either, he can cause some problems and make it really difficult for Novak Djokovic, he is young and he showed what he's capable of in the past masters tournament in Miami, i am expecting him to at least win a set against Novak.

I agree, Sinner is a young talent and can even may cause an upset and beat Djokovic. Not going to bet on Sinner to win, but an asian handicap on Sinner has some value in my eyes.
Sinner is a good player and he will have his chance to surprise Djokovic. It should be much easier for Sinner since this is Djokovic first match on clay this season. If this was the final Djoko would destroy him for sure,  this can go both ways. I am actually surprised how big odds on Djoko are. Probably not betting on this one though, too tough to call before seeing Djoko play.

@Trofo even Djokovic has spoken highly about Sinner, and he too is looking forward to this tough contest which makes this match very interesting to watch for the fans. Also Sinner has agreed that this will be his toughest test, and irrespective of the results he’ll gain invaluable experience which will only help him grow further.

Another ATP 1000 Masters  Monte Carlo have started and this time the big 3 are playing excluded Roger Federer.
This tournament will take place on clay court, Nadal's favorite type of field and if look at the list of winners, Nadal is pretty much the champion in Monte Carlo.
https://www.atptour.com/en/tournaments/monte-carlo/410/overview

It is too bad that Federer is not competing in this tournament. It would have been interesting to see in what form Federer is. Nadal is the big favorite to win the title, but the odds are not really interesting.

Yeah right, betting on Nadal when the tournament is held on clay the odds are not very attractive, for example the match later where Nadal will play againts F. Delbonis, the odds for Nadal are only 1.025, fans is happy because he is very favorite to win, but for the bettor it is not attractive odds to take it.

''ATP Statement: Medvedev Withdrawn From Monte-Carlo''
''Following the return of a positive COVID-19 test result on 12 April 2021, World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev has been withdrawn from the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.''

Ouch so sad to hear that he is positive and withdrawing from the tournament

It will be really a big test for Sinner, current ML odds are:
@1.35 Djokovic
@3.15 Sinner

Young talent vs the top seed, I do hope that this will be a good match, otherwise, Djokovic might show why he is the best tennis player in the world and not give Sinner a chance to advance.

After Ramos at Real another famous athlete is infected with the corona virus and can't perform.
We can only hope that this will not become a trend now and that even more top athletes will not have to start canceling their performances due to problems with Covid.

This is not good for the tournament as they would want the top players playing. It does however open up the door for Nadal to take back the number 2 ranking if he does happen to win the tournament which is very likely giving he's record in this tournament. Lets hope that there will be no more positive tests and that we get through the tournament safely.

Novak Djokovic had a hard draw now with medvedev out of the way.It is a lot easier for him. Also Nadal is the king of clay next couple of tournaments is his field. He can get extra points in Monte Carlo. But needs to defend later the French Open. Also i hope not many people got infected would be a big waste.

Very interesting news from the tennis world: ''Toni Nadal, the uncle and former coach of 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, has joined the coaching team of Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.''
''Uncle Toni'' has practically coached Nadal from the very beginning of his tennis career until 2017 and I'm really surprised that he will now be coaching another tennis player.
Can he create a new tennis champion?

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/56681542

Sound like good news for Felix. There is something to be said for someone able to keep Nadal playing at such a high level for such a long time. I wish I could buy stocks of players because I feel that it is not only about knowing about tennis and PE training, it is a lot about making sure the athlete is able to compete in the long term with minimum injuries. Nadal has been having issues with injuries yes, but not as much as it could be expected from such a level of competition.

Nadal has now won 11 times in Monte Carlo. To see once if he can do it again this year, it is very impressive how often he has already won several tournaments on the clay court (such as the French open).

''Turin and Innsbruck will join Madrid as co-hosts of this year's Davis Cup Finals from 25 November.''
''Last year's finals were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic, and the same 18 nations will contest this year's event.''

The Davis Cup competition will last 11 days, which seems too long and unnecessary to me.
Perhaps it would have been better if they had started the competition from the beginning, anew, and shortened the duration of the competition.
This kind of competition comes at the end of the season and will be very physically demanding and the players will already be tired after a busy season.
I expect a lot of players to cancel their participation due to injuries and fatigue.
What do you think?

Surprising news, didn't see that coming. I think we can consider Felix as a talent but not such a big talent as Thiem or Zverev or Tsitsipas. With Toni Nadal as coach he can improve but can he reach the same level as these guys? I have my doubts.

As I have said a number of times on here. I have serious doubts about the younger players coming through will ever achieve success while Nadal, Djokovic and Federer are still playing. More so Djokovic as he has been in top form for the past few years now but still Nadal is tough to beat. Once these guys retire then we'll start to see the young talent start winning grand slams and I'm thinking we'll see what we are seeing in Women's tennis, several top players winning grand slams instead of one or two players always winning each year.

Yes, chances are those young players will have a hard time winning Grand Slams if the big 3 is still active, or even Djokovic or Nadal. Although we like what we here with Toni Nadal trying to share his coaching skills to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

But players really need the special skills, mentality and a big heart to go and fight every point in every game against a very experience Djokovic or Nadal. He is currently rank 21th, maybe he can improved his ranking at least.

That's the main problem we see with the young talent, their mentality to win matches and to continue on with the winning mentality but we are yet to see this yet. I think Felix Auger-Aliassime can become a top 10 player this year as long as he can continue on with he's form and if he can reach the finals in grand slam tournaments but winning a grand slam might be a couple of years away depending on Djokovic and Nadal if they are still playing.
