I'll watch Đoković - Zverev tomorrow, it will probably be the best one of the tournament. I'm cheering for Zverev, the best final tennis-wise would be Zverev - Tsitsipas.
I am worried with the health of Novak Djokovic as he was struggling with his fitness in the match against Taylor Fritz and against Alexander Zverev if he is not in full fitness it is going to be hard and with that in mind i might be betting on Alexander Zverev to win the match and it depends upon how Djokovic performs in the first set.

I'm also surprised Nadal won against Fognini in straight sets. Expected it to be a bit tougher for Rafa.

When i tuned in fognini just made a break in the second set and i thought that, fognini woudl take the set and then everything would have been on course for a great and close match.
But then was very unlucky in the game and rafa immediately managed a rebreak, and everyone knows that once fognini is in a bad mood it all goes down the drain  Smiley.

Tsitsipas pulled this one off but with a forfeit from Berettini. Damn I was looking forward to this match, it should have been a great match.

Same here, this one was on my 'must watch' list and it's a shame it was forfeited.

Anyone watching Elise Mertens match against Karolina Muchova, i had a bad time as i was expecting Elise Mertens to win the match easily and made a bet on winning the first set and win by direct sets and to my misery Karolina Muchova came back from behind even though Elise Mertens was leading by 4 sets and then all of a sudden Karolina Muchova won the set  Undecided.

Tsitsipas and Berrettini, damn, I'm hype it could end in another 5 set thriller here and hopefully Tsitsipas can pull this one of.

Forfeits have started coming on ATP tour more and more, Ruud also forfeited after getting 2:0 down against Rublev. I guess 5 setters are very hard on the body when most players did not have perfect preparation for the tournament. Not even gonna talk about match fitness since that part was impossible to achieve due to covid measures.

That's why I said I wanted to watch Thiem vs Dimitrov because something could be brewing like an upset which happen and it's good I have covered enough for a Dimitrov win.

As far as Djokovic, I thought he gonna falter against Raonic, but one hell of a match, he was able to overcome his injury and rise to the occasion again. But how long can he keep this up specially that the going gets tough in the next round?

Djokovic is one tough player to continue on with his injury and beat Raonic. It just goes to show this Man's mental toughness to keep fighting on no matter what. We see the same with Nadal, I remember the AO final between Wawrinka and Nadal which Wawrinka ended up winning but Nadal was injured but kept fighting on to the end. These two Djokovic and Nadal have that mental ability to continue on through the pain where as not many other players can.

To be honest Thiem wasn't really a shock for me as Dimitrov has been playing well for the past several months but I do think that Thiem's match against Kyrgios took a lot out of him and with not having much match fitness and practice due to the virus it might of been his downfall.

I'm looking forward to tonight's match between Tsitsipas and Berrettini, it should be another great match as both players have been in good form.

By the way, I don't know why they made courts quicker this year!!!! Maybe to suit Aussie players (all of them Big serve + forehand).....in my eyes, one-dimensional players.... Nick might be a possible exception
I am quite sure that can't be the reason at least from men's side. I would guess that they had big expectations from De Minaur and he is not the one to profit from fast conditions. Maybe Barty can profit on women's side but all good WTA players currently in form are big hitters (with exception for Halep) so again I don't think it is likely.

I believe this is more due to weather conditions or just fluke. This evening it was a bit colder and immediately the conditions were much slower. Zverev complained a bit about it after his match with Lajovic.

Am I the only one who believes that Karatsev can win against Grigor. The guy already went deep and there is not much he can lose. He will play pressure-free and has weapons to hurt in these quicker AO conditions.

Guys, you should enjoy watching Novak, the guy is a pure mental giant, already achieved a lot in spite of all haters and bad souls. That movement, return of serve, athleticism and mental strength.....just one in a hundred years. Once he retires people will write books about his stats and dominance. He is the top contender for years, always in the final stages of tournaments (no matter grass, clay, hard courts).
No need for frustration, let's enjoy the sport itself...

Cant believe Thiem lost against Dimitrov and 6-0 in the 3rd set. its like the life was sucked
out of him in the match against Kyrgios.

Yeah i was hoping for much a closer and longer match than that. But when you keep in mind that Thiem had a very close 5 set match against Kyrgios before while Dimitrov only had to play 1 set against Carreno busta before this one gave up its not that surprising.
If Thiem could have managed to win one of the first two sets than maybe he could motivate himself a little more but under this circumstances he was completely done in the 3rd set.

Djokovic had a strange year last year, the incident in the US Open, his move to set up the
PTPA during COVID and not allowing Women to join and some of his game tactics, its not right.

I used to be a fan of Novak but in the last few years my liking has waned.

My favourite Ladies player Osaka had a stunning match against Muguruza and took the last 2 sets to win.
I really hope she can get to the final at least.

By the way, along with Djokovic and Nadal, I also considered Thiem one of the favorites of the tournament and I am surprised how easily he lost the match against Dimitrov.
Thiem is a clay court player, on other surfaces he often has problems. I am not surprised he lost but I am a bit surprised that he lost in straight sets. That match had over games written all over for me.

Djoko just started his match and he is showing no signs of any injuries. I am thinking Raonic will be out of the tournament in couple of hours and his H2H with Djoko will get a bit worse Smiley

De Minaur is playing against a tough Fognini.

Waiting for Thiem vs Dimitrov later, it's good that I can watch it live during my time.

It's concerning the status of Djokovic, but he should make the right decision. If he aggravated this injury then it might hurt him in the long run. So it's better for him to rest or just retire in this year's AO, (this is just me). He is still very much on the prime of his career and he can still chase AO in the next 2-3 years.

I am also looking forward to the match of thiem vs dimitrov i just love to watch players that are using a one-handed backhand. It just looks much more elegant than the two-handed variant.
Regarding Djokovics injury, i think there is also the possibility that the injury isn't that bad he isn't injured at all. I watched his match against Fritz and he moved ok and djokovic is known to be a little drama queen sometimes and taking medical breaks without even needing it.

A lot of things have been weird about Djokovic lately including his attitude towards the Covid epidemic, his life philosophy, attitude towards other players, constant quarrels and conflicts etc.
I think he is currently the best tennis player in the world but unfortunately he doesn't think logically and is too focused on alternative ideas and opinions.
It would be a shame for such things to stop one great tennis career.

I also read this news today: Novak Djokovic's 'sad' injury announcement after Australian Open epic.

Quote
Novak Djokovic has admitted he almost quit during his five-set tussle with Taylor Fritz on Friday night, while also conceding he's not sure if he'll be able to play in the next round.

The defending champion says that, "god willing", he hopes to line up in Sunday's fourth round match with Milos Raonic despite a suspected torn stomach muscle that almost derailed him against Fritz.

That is already a torn muscle, I don't know how can he go around and play high level tennis against a dangerous opponent like Raonic.

Yeah, too bad for Nick, some media says it's a total collapse, but we all know that Thiem have been showing mental toughness and I would say he developed and could match the best out there like the big 3 in terms of digging out of the grave attitude.

According to this news on BBC Sport, https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/56042096 it seems questionable that Djokovic will be able to continue this competition due to injury.
If that happens, it will be a serious blow to his ambitions to win the most GS and thus become a GOAT, after Wimbledon was postponed last year and he was disqualified from GS in America last year.
Djokovic is no longer young and has less and less time to surpass Federer and Nadal in the number of GS titles won, and it is obvious that this is his greatest wish and ambition now.

There is still plenty of time for Djokovic as he is only 33, just look at Federer still playing at 39 so I think Djokovic still has time to have the most grand slams in history. A lot also depends on the young talent coming through.

I was sad to see De Minaur lose in straight sets as I was hoping he would make the finals.

If Djokovic continues, I am curious to see the odds for him. Giving his injury, there might be some value on Raonic to win.
I am not betting on that before the match. Raonic is actually just sort of the player Djoko will be very happy to play in his injured state. There will not be many long points and Djoko will not need to generate power on his forehand and that troubled him most. He served and returned pretty much normally during the match and all points against Raonic will be finished inside first few hits. If the points go into long rally even Djoko without one leg would be match for Raonic  Grin

If he was playing against some grinder like De Minaur, Goffin, Bautista I would be all over taking them as value bet and I would do it on some bookie that considers forfeit as regular result. I am expecting Djoko to play just because he is against Raonic (11-0 H2H) and then he has another day off before next match. Of course that only stands if there is no risk of making the injury much worse.

This is totally a piece of sad news in spite that, Novak Djokovic's health ailment is not strange golf fans, he seems to be a bit worried but I know him to always come back strong no matter how dangerous the opponents are which also surprises me and makes me one of his fans.
In the meantime, let's wait maybe he will be fit for his next game.

Dam this virus, I'm sick of it and I knew that something would happen. I live in Melbourne so now we are in lockdown once again for 5 days minimum, one positive is that the Victorian government is allowing the AO to go ahead but of course no crowds. It will be interesting to see what the government does for the finals as by then we should be out of this lockdown if all goes well.

I just read about this  Sad. Sad news, hopefully this 5 day lockdown will be effective and long enough to stop further the spread of the virus.
