I also read this news today: Novak Djokovic's 'sad' injury announcement after Australian Open epic.

Quote
Novak Djokovic has admitted he almost quit during his five-set tussle with Taylor Fritz on Friday night, while also conceding he's not sure if he'll be able to play in the next round.

The defending champion says that, "god willing", he hopes to line up in Sunday's fourth round match with Milos Raonic despite a suspected torn stomach muscle that almost derailed him against Fritz.

That is already a torn muscle, I don't know how can he go around and play high level tennis against a dangerous opponent like Raonic.

Yeah, too bad for Nick, some media says it's a total collapse, but we all know that Thiem have been showing mental toughness and I would say he developed and could match the best out there like the big 3 in terms of digging out of the grave attitude.

According to this news on BBC Sport, https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/56042096 it seems questionable that Djokovic will be able to continue this competition due to injury.
If that happens, it will be a serious blow to his ambitions to win the most GS and thus become a GOAT, after Wimbledon was postponed last year and he was disqualified from GS in America last year.
Djokovic is no longer young and has less and less time to surpass Federer and Nadal in the number of GS titles won, and it is obvious that this is his greatest wish and ambition now.

Obviously after their win at the ATP cup Medvedev and Rublev are ones to watch.
I also believe that they have a very good chance to advance as far as possible in the tournament bracket, especially considering that despite his high position in the ranking, Rublev has never been in the semifinals of a Grand Slam. Although I think that Medvedev will have more chances and even a good chance for the title.

...snip...

Medvedev in particular plays Tennis like he is playing Chess, He's seriously intelligent
and seems to be able to change his game as a game progresses, intriguing to watch.

...snip...

Too bad that Kyrgios is out but congrats to Thiem for coming back from 2 sets down. If Tsitsipas and Nadal go through, it can be interesting to place a bet on Tsitsipas but I am curious to know the odds.

Just watching the match on Eurosport now, not live obviously. Cant believe either that
with 2 sets up Nick couldnt finish it. He played some outstanding Tennis in the second set.
Well done to Thiem for pulling the match out of the fire especially with a very vocal home audience.

Its a shame that Kyrgios couldn't finish the match off and get the win. Thiem is a very good player and as we have been saying in here for years now he has the talent to win many grand slams and maybe he can win his first AO this year.

Dam this virus, I'm sick of it and I knew that something would happen. I live in Melbourne so now we are in lockdown once again for 5 days minimum, one positive is that the Victorian government is allowing the AO to go ahead but of course no crowds. It will be interesting to see what the government does for the finals as by then we should be out of this lockdown if all goes well.

thanks for this one, owe you a beer if everything comes out as expected, break in fourth set just happened
it is a mixture feeling, get money and Novak will lose match, but what the heck, there are other tournaments for him, did not catch that much, took at @8

edit: could not watch the match, it was on a pure trust in your feeling
I just cashed out, 5 mBTC for 60 enough for me, it would be a cool 100 but I am afraid Djoko will forfeit and then I get voided.

What a crazy match, supporters have been removed due to lock down. Fritz does not have extra shoes and he just glued it, it broke up from inside. I would not be surprised if he has to play barefoot  Huh

Never seen stuff like this

Damn, I wish I watched the match with all the drama/sensation going on  Grin. Congrats with the cash out, you made the right choice as Djokovic somehow managed to still win the match.

after this morning, Thiem could be seen as number one favorite for the title, he handled himself during the meltdown after first two sets as a pro, looking as Federer in RG against Haas - R16 in 2009, one of the best turnovers that I saw, if we disregard Novak, Rafa and Fedex in-between matches
Novak is not playing at his level in first three rounds, but should get better as later tournament stages comes in

regarding Tsitsi, I will also put something on him, if he faces Rafa eventually, do not think that Rafa could handle to the final, no matter what

Too bad that Kyrgios is out but congrats to Thiem for coming back from 2 sets down. If Tsitsipas and Nadal go through, it can be interesting to place a bet on Tsitsipas but I am curious to know the odds.

Absolutely crazy match..... crowd pushed into lockdown once again, a guy sponsored by Nike remains without proper shoes, Novak with serious injury through the next stage of the tournament but probably won't go deep this year. Couple of physio visits and needed almost 80min to get relieved by painkillers.

Novak is out, I just put bet on Fritz @20, he has some problems with stomach muscles and can't play his game. He is 2:0 up but if he looses this set he will either lose match or forfeit. Just a feeling. Put a bet on bookie that counts forfeits as regular win and not void. Wbet7 is one of them.

Rafael Nadal extended his bid for a new record of 21st Grand Slam title last Thursday because he defeated Michael Mmoh 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 at the Australian Open. I am really proud of that guy, he is like noone else, he never gives up and no matter how old he is. He always says the same: 'I always try to be better and I try to find what I can improve'. He has even a better backhand day by day, it is amazing guys. I bet on the Grand Slam Nadal's victory for sure!

Yeah, it was a thriller, same here, I thought that Stepanos will lose his concentration as the match progresses. Good thing that he has improve a lot in this close match and can go deep in his bag of arsenals to win this one.
I am hoping we will see his match against Nadal since that one could be a beauty. After coming close in last couple of encounters I sort of feel he will manage to win this time around.

After a couple of small wins and a couple of very narrowly missing multi tickets I finally hit a nice one during the night. Mix of everything Australin Open has to offer.

What an epic fifth set match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis. I was hoping for a great match and they did not disappoint, at one point I thought not again when Tsitsipas went down 2-1 in the deciding set but he bounced back and was too strong for Kokkinakis in the end. As an Australian I'm so happy to see Kokkinakis back and he looks to be one up and comer in the years to come for Australian Men's tennis.

The biggest upset so far in the tournament was that last years AO winner Sofia Kenin was knocked out in the second round by Kaia Kanepi. We don;t see this happen to often but as we have said, we think that some players preparations for the tournament have been tough by not being able to train and practice as they normally would ahead of a grand slam and it does show with some players.

Also Kerber losing to Pera in the 1st round, we have seen upsets already in the women's side. Maybe it was the hot weather or the quarantine.

Too bad Wawrinka lost, I like seeing him play but chances that Wawrinka will win another grandslam has also become rather low.
In general, it is surprising that Stan Wawrinka managed to take his Grand Slam titles at the time, so he should again be very lucky, which is quite problematic with the current live and healthy TOP 5 of the world ranking.

This is the current women's tennis in all its glory, when there is no total domination of any one player and the title can be won by any player from the TOP 100, and the title holder, on the contrary, will be eliminated in the first rounds. No kidding, think back to last year and the final of Roland Garros.

Just checked the AO offer for the upcoming night so possible bets should be: Dimitrov vs Busta 4 or 5 sets probably, Schwartzman should take an easy win (not bad odds), Thiem to destroy Kyrgios (-6,5 maybe even more)...
Then 13.02 we have Fognini (I strongly believe he can take at least one set from De Minaur), Khachanov vs Berrettini should be a tight one (probably few tie breaks in match).

Mathematics can be helpful when placing tennis bets, so check this one: http://www.tennisabstract.com/current/2021AustralianOpenMenForecast.html

I know I expect too much from Čorić, he'll probably never reach the heights I thought he was destined to (top 5 overall). But come on, losing to Mackenzie McDonald is a bit too much.

His next opponent would have been Lloyd Harris, he must stop throwing these kind of opportunities away. He's 24 already and has only one GS quarterfinal.

Nice win from Kyrgios and next round he will face Thiem. I am tempted to place a small bet on Kyrgios. It is a gamble as you never know with him but if he wants he can really beat everyone.

~snip
Wasn't able to see the match but Kokkinakis put up a great fight as it went all the way (5 sets). Next match of Tsitsipas is against Ymer.

Kyrgios win over Thiem would be a best for Novak, that he could hope for, yet although I think that Nick can do that, Thiem is in a good shape, and stable player now, so I cannot see that happened, did not saw quotes, is it tempting to put some money on Nick?

regarding Tsitsipas, he played average tennis, and Kokkinakis almost did not had any break chances, so it is was up to Tsitsipas, if he handled the break during set, than he took it, otherwise lost it in a tie-break, long match, but not that worth watching

Kyrgios had a big win in a five set match, he really fought hard in this match and now I hope he can continue this on and go far in the tournament. The big upset of the yesterday's matches was Wawrinka losing in five sets, as I said we would most likely see more big upsets during the tournament as a lot of players are not 100% match fit and I think he has shown with some of the top players losing early on against lower ranked and un-seeded players. We are seeing the same thing happen in the Women's draw with Kvitova losing.

Nice win from Kyrgios and next round he will face Thiem. I am tempted to place a small bet on Kyrgios. It is a gamble as you never know with him but if he wants he can really beat everyone. He is playing on home sole so maybe that helps to motivate him.

Too bad Wawrinka lost, I like seeing him play but chances that Wawrinka will win another grandslam has also become rather low.

I'm really looking forward to the match of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Thanasi Kokkinakis, I'm sure its going to be a great match. Its good to see Thanasi Kokkinakis back playing tennis again after being on the side lines for many years with injury.

Djokovic had first set lost today, against Tiafoe, does not mean much, but it was a bit harder than expected for him to win, and this could a good thing, since early troubles could make player motivation rise in the end, since everything finished good in the end

Thiem had an easy one, Wawrinka is already out, Raonic passed to play with Fucsovics, and Djokovic will wait for the winner from that match in fourth round, seems that till Thiem - Djokovic in semi-final, there will be no interesting outcomes in upper half

maybe Thiem could see some troubles with Nick, if he win today, that could an interesting match, I am not betting much on AO at the moment, it is simply not my time zone

Depends on which Nick turns up, we all like his style and talent but it doesnt always generate a win,
Thiem will be worried for sure.

Not too much mention of Medvedev and Rublev, they seem to be flying under the radar.
They should come through their 2nd round of matches against Carballes Baena and
Monteiro respectively.

Obviously after their win at the ATP cup Medvedev and Rublev are ones to watch.
