Entertaining and competitive match between Medvedev and Thiem. I felt bad for Thiem's two consecutive finals losses in this tournament. I thought he would get this year's title to be honest.

Still, good results for these men. Winning against Djokovic and Nadal is not an easy task even if they're past their prime years. We are seeing the new era for men's tennis right now.

I still can't believe how Nadal gave away that lead yesterday. He was really close.
Should serve at 5-4 in the second set before the match and then he loses.

up to this point, seems that Thiem was more impressed with the final than Medvedev, although he has more experience in matches like this, but he kept his first serve and that improved his play

first set is at the boiling point, Thiem is serving for the set, and will probably take it, but it does not look as straight set win for him, would put something small on Medvedev to take next set, and will see what to do after that

I agree, leaning towards Thiem, but just like Medvedev's win against Nadal, it was a comeback after losing the first set. And it looks like he dominated Thiem in the last two sets, but I would tend to agree that they are maturing now and closing the gap to the big 3.

Next year we will see then if there is a passing of the torch to his new set of young players or the big 3 will still conquer the big tournaments and let the others savors ATP Masters.

I also like the fact that after years in tennis the young people are pushing for it, but Nadal and Djokovic will still win big tournaments in the next few years I think, I'm not sure about Federer, maybe Wimbledon, but that is also rather unlikely. Unfortunately, Thiem lost today's match like last year, but he had a good year and still has many ahead of him.
It is good to see youngsters coming up and Daniil Medvedev was on my radar as an upcoming player and when he defeated Novak Djokovic earlier in the tournament coming in as a underdog i knew he is in top form and the matches against Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem in the final were pure genius after loosing first set and coming back and winning a close game and then continuing that form.

the final Thiem - Medvedev tells us that new young players have became the real strength and dinosaurs like Nadal, Federer and Djokovic should take them very seriously. as for me, in this final Thiem looks more interesting.
I am also very happy with this new generation players doing good and after very long time we have no one from big three in any final Thiem was really good in first set but Medvedev very impressively fights back and now leading in third and final set by 5 - 3 very entertaining and good final where Thiem was in full but sadly lost service in third set and now down.

I think the final acid test is whether the breed of young players can win a grand slam facing any of the big three. We haven't seen it, as the big 3 continue to dominate the grand slams tournament in the last 10 years or so.

So if Thiem, Medvedev and others can start the next year tennis tournament with a big win in Australian Open, maybe there is a argument that there are competition already and we might see the changing of the guards. If not, they the big 3 will still be there trying to fend off the challenges of this young set of players as long as they can.

^^ So it looks like my prediction is correct,  Grin

It will be Thiem vs Medvedev for the ATP finals.

Medvedev come back won the second and third set against Nadal. While for me Thiem has crossed the big mental barrier here, as he was able to close out Djokovic. I thought he would collapsed because he failed to convert 4 match points in a dramatic second-set tie-break. But then held in the 4th set also another tie break, but this time he didn't melt under pressure.

Same with Medvedev, down in the first set, but came on firing on the last two sets. Nadal trying to adapt but Medvedev was very quick and readjust as well.

Nice prediction, for me it is a surprise  Smiley. I thought it would be Djokovic vs Nadal.
This should be a close match, but the odds for Thiem to win are quite nice (around 2.2 - 2.3)  so I also placed a bet on him.

Really don't know what to bet on today's final. I will probably end up taking Thiem just because odds are better and I like him more Smiley

Yeah, probably Thiem will take this one so I'm going for him as well. It's not that Medvedev is not good, but I think Thiem has more tools in his arsenal to be on top of this years ATP.

My main tennis bet today goes to doubles match. I was watching a lot of Koolof/Mektic pair and they are playing some great tennis. Should win this one without much problems.

Never bet on doubles though, that's one of my weakest link in tennis, I don't know but I haven't follow doubles game, so I'm not familiar with those names, except for the Woodbridge brothers,  Grin

You were right in the end. I was quite sure Nadal will manage to push trough Medvedev but in the end he lost much of his sharpness when going forward to the net. For me, that is the thing that turned the match, in the beginning every volley from Nadal was crisp and toward the end they were a lot weaker and Medvedev capitalized on it.

Really don't know what to bet on today's final. I will probably end up taking Thiem just because odds are better and I like him more Smiley

Djokovic is out, did not expect that, did not bet on that one, but seems that Thiem has a number one future, probably during next year, because I cannot see Nadal to have continuity on hard surface, and Djokovic does not seem to have a sharp edge to finish matches against him, like at last year Australian Open

Can't believe that Thiem ended up winning the match because in 3rd set Djokovic was leading 4-1 when a tie break only took 3 points for Him to finish the match and go to the final, and Medvedev's win over Nadal finally started to break the top 3 dominance at least for a big tournament like this.

Medvedev could be the dark horse in this tournament as he looks in fine form right now beating Djokovic in straight sets and really dominated the match. I'm looking forward to seeing how Tsitsipas goes against Nadal even though Nadal is the odds on favourite I still give Tsitsipas a chance to cause an upset but I won't be betting on the match.

We will never count our boy out, specially against Nadal.  Smiley

Yeah, Medvedev could be the best dark horse in this tournament, surprised that he won in straight sets against Djokovic, dominating first set and then he continue the momentum.

What do you think of the Thiem vs Rublev, will Thiem take it easy today or wanted to carry the momentum also for a 3-0 card in his group?

I'm watching the Nadal/Tsitsipas match now and I must say that Tsitsipas is playing some good tennis after losing the first set, he has fought back to win the second set so its going to be a great finish and I am hoping that Tsitsipas can get the win but as we know Nadal is a tough player to beat. Looks like you were right with Thiem taking it easy as he lost in straight sets but then again Rublev has had a break out year and has been in top form so it didn't really surprise me to see him get the win.

Unfortunately, Tsitsipas can't sustained his game or it is just that Nadal elevated his game again and beat him in 3 sets. Attractive odds for Tsitsipas but I didn't take it because I have a feeling that Nadal will play great coming from a lost to Thiem.

I don't know if others have stake on Rublev, another attractive odds as I have said that he wil take it lightly because he is assured already and yes, probably reserving his strength for bigger match.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Tsitsipas to beat Nadal. Even though he lost the match, he did play well in the first two sets but once again faded out in the third set. This is something he really needs to work on, I'm not sure if its his fitness or mentality on trying to win a match?

I guess it's more on his mentality though, I think he has the body to play long and hard grind tennis, but if his mind failed him, then his body will follow.

I think we are now in the semi finals, Thiem vs Djokovic and then Nadal vs Medvedev.

I'm looking for Thiem vs Medvedev in the finals? Who you got?

Yeah I think it is because as we have seen when he gets in winning positions in matches he can't seem to go on and win so hopefully he can get this right and then we'll start seeing the best of him.

What an epic battle we saw in the Thiem and Djokovic match, I think with this hard fought win by Thiem it now puts him up there with the big three and we could see him have a big year next year winning more tournaments and grand slams instead of the big three all the time.

Currently Nadal is winning his match with Medvedev 1 set 0 however Medvedev is fighting back in the second to now force a tie breaker. Will we see another epic three set match?

@Trofo, great win, hopefully you did not take it to nervously in second tie-break, 0:4 is a bit hard to overcome, but Djokovic did not had strength to finish this, and that would last in their H2H for some time
I took it very nervously, I was so close to cashing out at the end of second set when I saw that the match is turning a bit and then in the 3rd set again. Djokovic was much better in 3rd set, he started returning serves like crazy and if they offered me decent money at that moment I would have taken it. In the end it finished well for me.

Damn, I feel like I was playing the match, hard earned money Smiley

Now I have something more on Nadal to win, but nowhere near to the stake I had riding Thiem.

I am looking for Thiem vs. Nadal in finals.

I have just placed my biggest bet ever on Thiem winning against Djokovic for a full third of my betting bank (my high stake bet is usually 3-5%). Those odds @2.5 just look so good. I watched all matches from these 2 players and I must say Djokovic is way too defensive to have any chance against Thiem. He was ripe to loose against Zverev yesterday if only Zverev had a bit more composure and better second serve he would be out. Rublev was on fire against Thiem and I am not taking that loss as important for this H2H. Thiem has already won against Djokovic in this tournament last year and this year Thiem is a better player while I am quite sure Djokovic is not in his best form. I am expecting 2:0 for Thiem here but simple ML pays enough for me.

Nadal has been playing great and he never lost against Medvedev. I hope that will be enough for him to triumph today as well. But I haven't placed my bet on this match yet because I am waiting on other bet to settle first to determine my betting future.

I am also curious who the best players are at the moment. Nadal is in a class of its own on grass, but I also mean more all-round in general.
Federer seems useful or really has had his best years, is not moving as smoothly as before. But yes, he is already almost his 40's now.
It is still a phenomenon and he still plays great from time to time.
