Medvedev could be the dark horse in this tournament as he looks in fine form right now beating Djokovic in straight sets and really dominated the match. I'm looking forward to seeing how Tsitsipas goes against Nadal even though Nadal is the odds on favourite I still give Tsitsipas a chance to cause an upset but I won't be betting on the match.

We will never count our boy out, specially against Nadal.  Smiley

Yeah, Medvedev could be the best dark horse in this tournament, surprised that he won in straight sets against Djokovic, dominating first set and then he continue the momentum.

What do you think of the Thiem vs Rublev, will Thiem take it easy today or wanted to carry the momentum also for a 3-0 card in his group?

I'm watching the Nadal/Tsitsipas match now and I must say that Tsitsipas is playing some good tennis after losing the first set, he has fought back to win the second set so its going to be a great finish and I am hoping that Tsitsipas can get the win but as we know Nadal is a tough player to beat. Looks like you were right with Thiem taking it easy as he lost in straight sets but then again Rublev has had a break out year and has been in top form so it didn't really surprise me to see him get the win.

Unfortunately, Tsitsipas can't sustained his game or it is just that Nadal elevated his game again and beat him in 3 sets. Attractive odds for Tsitsipas but I didn't take it because I have a feeling that Nadal will play great coming from a lost to Thiem.

I don't know if others have stake on Rublev, another attractive odds as I have said that he wil take it lightly because he is assured already and yes, probably reserving his strength for bigger match.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Tsitsipas to beat Nadal. Even though he lost the match, he did play well in the first two sets but once again faded out in the third set. This is something he really needs to work on, I'm not sure if its his fitness or mentality on trying to win a match?

so far so good, Djokovic won over Zverev, and we will see how Medvedev and Schwartzmann are going to play out
both semi-finals should be more than interesting, and i expect the final between Djokovic and Medvedev, think that Thiem will have difficult time to keep his play on top of Djokovic, probably three sets, and tough win for Djokovic, and from the other semi-final i cannot see Nadal beating Medvedev, although should be, but Medvedev looks great so far, and Rafa will have very difficult time to overcome him on this surface

TLDR - Djokovic and Medvedev in the final

After advocating against placing bets on Thiem yesterday I woke up today and placed a big bet on him. Go figure, I am loosing my mind obviously Smiley

In my defense I found out another reason for Thiem to give his best, if he wins all the matches in this tournament and Nadal looses tonight, he will overcome Nadal and be second player in the world. In his current form I am sure he believes he will win the tournament and this should be enough of motivation to play 100% today.

Thiem started relaxed and without motivation, and that was good for Rublev momentum, it was hard to even put something to hedge the bet, did you try or succeed to hedge this bet?
in second set, there was a chance before the end, but Rublev kept his play at the end, and in the end has one win on the tournament

same situation in group A, Djokovic and Zverev play today for the next round and Medvedev has training match with Schwartzmann, will the outcome be the same with Schwartzmann and Djokovic wins
I lost that bet, there was no opportunity to cash out or hedge. You just take it on the chin and move on. I recovered my money in the later match between Nadal and Tsitsipas, I took over 23.5 games and I consider myself quite lucky it passed. Nadal was much better and could have won in 2 sets. He had one bad service and it came at the perfect time for me Smiley Win some, lose some. I am playing on Nadal against Medvedev on Saturday for sure, I believe he is winning this whole tournament.

Zverev was quite prone to errors in first 2 matches and Djoko should capitalize on that without much problems. I d0n't believe Schwartzman can win against Medvedev. The difference is that Schwarzman just don't have the power to play against these guys on this surface. His problem is not in the head like in Rublev case and he will not profit from lack of pressure. It could even make him less interested to run down all those balls.

Edit: Again changed my mind after seeing that important Serbian patriarch died from Covid. Last time something like this happened Djokovic was swept away against Sonego and said he did not have the will to play. Skipping this game for high stake and taking Zverev 2:0 just for fun.

today Dominic Thiem lost to Andrey Rublev in straight sets 2-6 5-7. but he early booked his place in later stage so this match wasn't important for him. maybe it was a good decision to save the energy before the next match.

Another suprise with Djokovic loosing in straight sets against Medvedev.

I often have the same thing  Grin. Thiem will have motivation to become nr 2 in the world, but I don't see Nadal loosing tonight. However, I also didn't expect that Nadal would loose against Thiem.
It is a tournament of surprises  Smiley.

Tsitsipas has chances against Nadal, that is for sure, but one should keep in mind that Nadal played great game against Thiem, although defeated by straight set, it could be the other way around easily

regarding tonight, i would skip Rublev and Thiem, and probably put something during match on Tsitsipas, depending on how things were going on the court

and, did not expect this defeat from Djokovic, seems that he is only playing to catch weeks on top, but Zverev has his chances tomorrow

No doubt Medvedev played a good game against Djokovic but he shouldn't be considered to be the dark horse in this tournament if we put Djokovic health situation into consideration and despite the odds for the upcoming game I expect Nadal and Rublev A. to be the winner

Zverev won today but he did not pass the eye test for me. I am betting on Djoko for sure in that match. Probably some big handicap.
I placed a bet on Novak Djokovic to win by direct set and he lost to Daniil Medvedev by direct set Cry.  I placed a parlay of Alexander Zverev to win a set and Novak Djokovic to win by direct set and i was not having expectation on the form of Zverev but i had no idea Djokovic was still in the hangover of Vienna open where he lost another unexpected match.

I agree with all that was said, but I really like the odds on Thiem. He'll probably want to win to keep the momentum, he has more reason to play for the win than Rublev.

He's also a better player and is currently in better form. I expected the odds would be something like 1.40-1.45, so will definitely take advantage of the 1.65+ odds.
All true, but tennis is a momentum game and player has to have will to plow trough bad patches and turn momentum back in his favour. Let's say Thiem looses first set in tie break, would he have the mental strength to fight or would he just choose easy way and lose in 2 sets?

If this was normal KO match I would still believe in Thiem but in these circumstances I would favour Rublev much more.

I think I will bet on this match live and try to capitalize if some opportunity presents itself.

One bet that has value is Thiem to win against Rublev in 2 sets, as the odd is around 2.5!
Don't forget this is a group stage. Did not check the math but I am quite sure Thiem does not need to win this match to qualify. Maybe he needs one set secure first spot. There is a lot of combinations in last round of these tournaments and you always have to consider what somebody needs. Rublev also won their last match on similar surface in straight sets. If anything I am betting on Rublev here, some handicap or one set for sure.

Rublev also strikes me as much more dangerous player when he is relaxed and after loosing two matches he probably can't qualify so he can just come out and enjoy.

I think that Thiem does not need anything to be first in the group, and Rublev cannot qualify
it is just a question who will be second, and Nadal and Tsitsipas will play for second spot, since both lost to Thiem, and in case he lose, and have two wins, as winner from this match, he will be better score to both of them
Rublev cannot pass with one win, since Nadal or Tsitsipas will have two after their match

I would skip that match, or put something to Rublev as well, but rather skip it is better option for me

Ok, didn't think of that. At first glance, it seemed good value to me, but as Thiem is already sure of the first place, he will probably not give everything for this match.
Thanks Trofo and casperBGD!!

Next is Zverev vs Schwartzman and Djokovic vs Medvedev in their own group.
Should be free money to bet on Zverev today. I am taking handicap and 2:0 for him. A bit concerned about how he looked against Medvedev. Both were terrible in that match but I expect much better performance from Zverev today.

I will probably also play something like Medvedev to take at least a set against Djoko. He managed to do so last couple of times they played.

I am reluctant to bet on Zverev after his loss in the final of the ATP Masters in Paris. He should win the match quite easily, but you never know with him.
Medvedev is in great shape and can take set of Djokovic, but odd for Medvedev winning a set is only around 1.7, which is too low for me.
