I didn't get to watch the Women's final but from the looks of the stats it was a good final going to three sets. Osaka fought back strong after going down 6-1 in the first set. Its always good to see players come back like what Azarenka has been able to do and now I hope she can continue on with this form, congrats to Osaka on winning her second US Open title.

Now we move onto the Men's final which after Djokovic was out, most of us were hoping for this final between Zverev and Thiem. Lets hope that it will be an epic final between the two as just think its the first Grand Slam final without the big three in many years, I can't even remember the last Grand Slam final where there was no Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

It's time for the ladies to shine, currently, Osaka and Azarenka fighting it out. 1-1, third set, 5-3 for Osaka, but it looks like Naomi will have this one in the bag as she is serving for the match.

Edit: Naomi Osaka is the women's US Open 2020, congrats.

Tomorrow or later (whichever timezone you have), we will see the men's side, Thiem vs Zverev.
Ver good win for Osaka she done good job in last two sets after losing first set very badly she deserve this title now time for big match just 21 hours left for new US Open champion for me Thiem is going to win this match without any serious trouble.

Azarenka reached final, did not saw that coming, somehow expected Serena to won the masters
will be interesting to see final between Azarenka and Osaka, quotes are on Osaka side, but would not count-out Azarenka at all after win over Serena
Yes, expecting Serena to win this year's US Open, but Azarenka, losing the first set and then coming back to win? Probably this is the last time that we are going to see Serena in my opinion. Naomi hold 2 to 1 head to head, but it doesn't matter though, this is a good finals for the womens side and I wouldn't be surprised if Azarenka put another comeback win.
Azarenka fight back very strongly in final 2 sets her win against Mertens was really shocking for me as I was not expecting from her win like this she completely outclass her with just 6 -1 and 6 - 0 this is turning point for her hopefully she could be very good in final as well and we will able to have very entertaining final for this years Grand Slam US Open.
Who wouldn't have thought that the US Open is this much as exciting? Of course, I'm hoping for a Serena finals appearance, but nothing to take away from Osaka vs Azarenka, this is still a very entertaining match for this year. In the mens side, Thiem will the favourite, Zverev is also playing very aggressively and strong in this tournament, but he will be very tired on the way he beat Busta, so I do hope he can rest a bit. But I think Thiem will also bring his A-game and win this years US Open. At least it's not the big 3 anymore although, Federer is injured, Nadal opted not to play and Djokovic... we know what happens to him.

Zverev clawing back after 2 sets down to Busta and now leading the 5th and final set, what a comeback, 2-1 up now. They are like entering the 3 hour mark of the match. It looks like Busta was slowing down and Zverev getting his second wind in the match. Still a lot of tennis though and unpredictable, but Zverev has a good chance to win and goes to the finals.

Edit: @vella85 somewhat beat me to it, but I'm watching it currently.

Anyone currently watching this epic semi-final match? Alexander Zverev has fought his way back into the match after going down 2 sets to 0 and is now in control of the fifth set currently up 2 games to 1. Zverev has come a long way as now he does look like he can challenge for Grand Slam titles now.

Not sure what you mean by saying Alex de Minaur isn't a player for a grand slam semi-final? He is an up and coming player and is a very good hard court player so I think he is a player that can match it with the best and will hopefully give Thiem a good challenge. Yes he might of had an easier draw however you still need to win matches to get through and that's what he has done so lets see how well he matches up against Thiem in just under an hour from now.

Well, I hope you saw what I mean. He might be an up and coming player, but he's not ready for Thiem yet. He had a great draw and found himself in the quarterfinals more by chance than by actually playing great tennis and Thiem blew him off the court. De Minaur is a decent player, I just felt that Thiem will breeze through the game and he did.

I have watched most of the match between Medvedev and Rublev yesterday and I must say I am very impressed with Medvedev. He is giving so little to his opponents and Rublev even though he played well did not manage to take even a set of him. He had his chances in both tie breaks but Medvedev managed to turn them in his favor.

I am not sure if Thiem can keep his focus long enough to pass trough Medvedev. I am expecting a match where Medvedev will keep constant level and Thiem will oscillate between hitting those big shots and just missing them. That should lead to interesting match and maybe even a 5th set. My bet for this one will be over games.

Rublev really killed me with these 2 tie-breaks. I'd have won another bet if he only managed to win one damn set - which he kind of deserved.
Medvedev - Thiem will be a great game to watch, I think the winner of that match will win the tournament. I'm betting on Thiem, I have a soft spot for heavy hitters Grin

Yes I got it wrong however like I also said he still needed to beat the other players to reach the semi-finals. We all know how good Thiem is and I have been a big fan of his for years now, you just need to go back through this thread to see that I have been a big supporter of his on here. Thiem has improved a lot on hard courts and maybe this US Open is the year for him to win it but Medvedev will be a tough next up opponent so it should be a great match.

I watch few match of De Minaur he still need some time because unpredictable player sometime play very good and in other set he is losing like a kid I am really upset with his current form even he reach in quarter final but still need some good time or good trainer for more technique when playing against high ranking players.
Thiem is really much better then Medvedev and can win his first Gran Slam but still he need two more matches to win for this all because now really tough time start for title race.

agree, and i expect five sets as well, or at least 4+ hour match, which will make both of them a bit tired for the finals, and Zverev should have easier task with Busta, so will be a bit of favorite in the final, if pass semi-final, of course

Medvedev is in good form, constant, but i expect from him to dip down when is most needed in the final, all the moments in tie-break that were great with Rublev will be probably opposite in the final, if we see tie-breaks, he does not have mental strength for these moment, IMHO

I'm interested on the other set of QF that is going to be played tomorrow.

Medvedev vs Rublev
Thiem vs De Minaur

Who do you guys think will win on that match? I will be giving Medvedev and Thiem advantage here simply because they have the experience, specially Thiem against De Minaur. For Medvedev, it will be a tough one, but he will prevail in 4 sets.

I agree. Thiem has to be considered as a big favorite, de Minaur had a really good draw so far and isn't a player for a GS semi final. I also have a feeling that Medvedev is in better form than Rublev and he's a better player overall.

It's a shame that Čorić did not reach the semis - he had his chances and losing both tie-breaks eventually cost him.

I made a parlay of Rublev winning a set (or more) and Thiem winning with a -6,5 handicap.

with Busta in semi-final, Zverev could count on final

I bet on Busta yesterday, I might against Zverev as well. He was brilliant against Đoković and excellent yesterday as well.
He's not a classic spanish clay player, he has a bigger win% ratio on hard than on clay.

Zverev is a favorite here, I agree, but not nearly big enough to conclude he's already in the final. Busta's playing a great tournament.
On papers Zverev is very good and hot favourite but Busta current form is also really outclass so he can beat him good going in last few matches so its not easy for Zverev to reach final in other match Thiem is also going to face some tough competition from Munar as he is also coming good in last few matches.

still think that Zverev is going to win this one, Thiem and Medvedev are good players, but think that Zverev is a bit more confident at the moment, and that is the most important in finals
Thiem is never the one count off before the match starts. He is one of those players who can on his best day easily beat even guys like Djokovic or Nadal. Granted he is more of a clay player but he has so many weapons that he can power trough any opponent. On the other side of things is also that player that will have bad day more often than any of the players remaining in the draw.

If Thiem comes 100% in all the remaining matches, and that is a big if, he is my favorite to lift the trophy.

I did not watch Medvedev after the restart at all. If he is in good form he is also very tough nut crack and has a bit different style of tennis which can be hard to read. He had an easy draw until now and now he is playing against Rublev (3:0 in H2H), so his first real test will be semi final against Thiem.

Zverev really looks in fine form and is the one to beat in my opinion. The way he was able to fight back after going down 6-1 in the first set and win two tie breakers in a row shows us that he has come a long way and looks ready to finally challenge for a Grand Slam title. Yes he has been good for a number of years but he just looks prime for this Grand Slam. Its great to see all the top seeds there, I personally am hoping Alex de Minaur can reach the semi-finals and even go onto to playing in the final but he has a very tough match against Thiem coming up.

with Busta in semi-final, Zverev could count on final, and should be fresh for final, instead of Medvedev/Thiem, that will have tougher job in quarter finals, but than their match should go to five sets in semi-final, if both eventually get there

still think that Zverev is going to win this one, Thiem and Medvedev are good players, but think that Zverev is a bit more confident at the moment, and that is the most important in finals
