Raonic (2) was defeated Kwon. I was rooting for Raonic to win the match because I thought that he made a comeback after winning the second set in a tie break. But Kwon can't be denied, he fought back in the 3rd winning, 6-4.

Tomorrow will be interested as top seed J. Isner will be facing another good player in Johnson.

The first QF has been set up, Humbert (4) vs (6) Kecmanović.

Its looking like its going to be another year like last year in Men's tennis when it comes to these smaller tournaments as the top players don't really seem interested at playing at their best in these tournaments so I'm expecting to see a lot of upsets against the top players and lower ranked players win these tournaments just like we saw last year. That's why I never bet in these tournaments as the top players seem to lose more times then win against low ranked players.

Anyone watching the New York Open?

Steve Johnson beat  Sandgren 6-7(5), 6-3, 7-6(3). We all remember who Sandgren is, the guy that Federer beat from a come from behind win. They went into a tie break, but Johnson mostly controlled it. I guess that Sandgren was still feeling the pain on that Federer lost and probably seeing another ghost during his match against Johnson specially in the tie break.
Sandgren T is currently on his highes rank and his record is not bad at all as he was very good in Australian open but Federer's expereince thrash him this is still hurting him as he lost very badly even leading by 2 - 1 in first 3 sets and fourth set break his all temperment after losing on tie breaker now he can bounce back but take some time.

That is what I'm trying to say, he is really good, however, his defeat against Federer may have put a dent on his spirit and it was like a repeat again against Steve Johnson in this tournament. So it might take some time before he can overcome it mentally.

Jason Jung upset Anderson, the champion in 2018.  He will be facing Norrie, another tough match for him, Norrie beat wild card Brian Shi.

I agree, I think that when he was in control against Federer and then losing it has taken a lot out of him mentally. We see this all the time in sports and it can take time before he can recover and sometimes they never recover from this so it will be interesting to see how he goes in future tournaments this year.

In Rotterdam  Evans D Vs Khachanov K its going to be good match but Khachanov is very good and exciting player he can handle Evans very good Medvedev and Rublev both have also easy matches but we can expect some good matches in next round.

i see Khachanov and Medvedev few more rounds in this tournament, but Rublev will face Medvedev as early as third round, so will not make far

Like a few of us in here have been saying for the past couple of years now. The big 3 don't really play to the best of their ability in Masters tournaments and they use the lead up tournaments to get in peak fitness ready for the grand slams. That is why we see the younger players win more of the Masters and lead up tournaments then the big 3 and I think this trend will continue on for a few more years.

It's not just that. There is big difference in winning the match played to the best of 5 sets than playing best of 3 sets. If This match in the final was played with Masters rules Thiem would be winner. The big 3 are still strongest in the head, this goes double for Djokovic, he is undisputed champion in that category. That extra match length gives him more opportunity find cracks in his opponent game. Best from young generation have the weapons to hurt the big three, but they are still lacking a bit of consistency and experience.

Yeah, the longer the game goes, the changes of winning is higher for those guys. Because they can broke those guys mentally in a 5 setter, because they will have to elevate their game one notch and close out the shows. Just like what you says, once he sees an opening or weakness after 3 sets then the big 3 are going to exploit it to there advantage. Slowly these young generation will gain the experience, what I would like to see is for them to really develop their weapons, whatever it takes just to break Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.

The catch here is that if they are going to learn from playing against this tennis greats. We've seen that they can evenly played the first 3 sets even winning the majority of them. But when it crunch time, the big three knows to tap their inner strength and go on the next levels. And I don't think that the young generation will learn that from playing them, in my opinion.

I agree with you.
Also, it became obvious that especially Federer but also the other 2 players, Nadal and Djokovic, choosing the tournaments they will play and especially preparing for 4 GS tournaments.
I think they are most motivated by the GS tournaments themselves because they are aware that they are on the march to the title of the greatest in tennis history and each of them wants to be first in the end.
After all, Djokovic has already openly admitted that he wants to have the most GS titles won at the end of his career.
The other, younger players, are still not mentally at that level but it is obvious that Thiem and Medvedev are very close and soon they will start winning the GS titles.

Now in next few months we will be able to have new faces in Mes Tennis as new generation is already on few players doing very good like Medvedev Zev Thiem and Tsitsipas they all capable of playing very good tennis for top 3 Federer is now going down as age factor is also going against him Nadal and Djokovic will be here for some more fun.

Historically though, in the men's competition, longevity is the key, Connors, Mcenroe, Borg. And then we have Ivan Lendl, Sampras and Agassi. And now the current big 3 - Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.

The guys you mentioned may not dominate like the big 3 however once the big 3 retire we may see it become like the Women's tennis where its open with no dominate Female now that Serena Williams has become less dominate. I also think that people want to see the young talent win as Thiem was the favourite with the crowd at the AO. The only problem is that Djokovic looks like he could play on for another 5+ years so we could be waiting a while unless the young talent really start to step their games up.
So I don't think that when the current big 3 retires there will be a power vacuum. Another breed of young players are going to emerge out of the ashes and continue the legacy.

But I agree that Djokovic can go 3-5 years still competing against this young generation of tennis players and surpasses Roger Federer's record and became the GOAT.

Well it could be, for sure in the men's side there will be a lots of competition if ever the big 3 is gone. In the last two years or so, many names have emerge already. But then again, then melted in big pressure match will the big three is taking the game methodically.

For sure Djokovic can outlast Nadal and Federer being the youngest of the three, and I have the feeling that he won't retired until he breaks Federer record and be called the modern era Rod Laver of the Open Era.
After Sampras we have Federer and now we have Djokovic as these guys going to be great in tennis history Djokovic is player to watch for next few years he is very stronge mentally and phyiscally so he can handle things for next many years as we have too many youngs but they need to be prepared for quality tennis like these 3 which is not easy.

However, this might not work anytime soon because it pretty clear that players like Zverev, Medvedev, Thiem etc which are still 20s are starving to have the taste of become top player.

The big 3, specially Federer and Nadal and selectively picking tournaments they want to join that's why they have stayed long at their age. And I have said before, they have the mentality, not just the skills to really compete with the young generations of tennis players. Definitely, sooner or later the young guys are going to catch up with them, but for now, we need to see the young generations proved it this year specially in grand slams.
You're right with you said because big 3 are yet to be satisfy with they have accomplished and if the young star want to win any tournament they have to do something extraordinary in the tournament.

Now Federer is already 39 so I sure this year he is not going to reach on top in any big tournament as he is struggling and Nadal and Djokovic both can stay for some time but as from these new generation players able to set they will rule because times never stop its going to happen in just very short period.

Even though Federer is 39, I still think he has a good chance of winning another grand slam. Look at Wimbledon last year, he even had 2 matchpoints against Djokovic.
He was struggling this Australian Open but was not 100% fit, especially in his match against Djokovic. The young generation is coming but I don't see anyone of these talents (such as Thiem, Medvedev, Zverev, Kyrgios) dominate ike Federer, Nadal or Djokovic have done in the past.

Yes,anyhing can happen in the world of tennis and theres still chance for Federer's to be the winner of another grand slam but the chance are slim due to the level of his fitness  because the new players are not joking these days.
With tha been said, Federer is still 38yrs not 39 yrs old.

Here is another article, John McEnroe and Boris Becker on why the ‘Big Three’ are not being threatened… yet

Quote
“You look at a guy like Rafael Nadal, who is perhaps the modern-day Jimmy Connors, and the guy brings it every point,” states McEnroe.

“I don’t see those other players – every point – bringing it, and you have got to. The other problem is that these three players – Federer, Nadal, Djokovic – are the three best players that have ever lived, they are better than these other guys. That is the part you cannot escape.

“If you look at Shapovalov, he’s got the body and physique, even Felix Auger-Aliassime – another Canadian – who I both think will win a Grand Slam and both I think will be in the top five. But they’ve got to be bitterly disappointed. It’s more the mental part, but technically they haven’t advanced their games enough and they think it’s just going to happen. You need to have a plan B or plan C if it’s not working particularly well.

“When you saw Federer play against John Millman, he’s 38 years old, his opponent is playing out of his mind, and is really taking it to him – you can see his mind working, trying to figure out how do I break this guy down.

Boris Becker thoughts:

Quote
“I don’t think it’s physical, I don’t think it’s technical, mentally they can’t cope with the pressure of expectations.

“The young guns are missing a bit of guts. A bit of balls. A bit of ‘okay, I’m here and I want to win and I’m going to do whatever it takes.’ They all fit into the system a little bit and the question is who is advising them, who is coaching them.

“They think it’s about tennis; it’s not about tennis, it’s about attitude and putting it out there on the line. I find there is something missing that would change that. You want to see the young players beat the top three when they are still playing well.

So those legends agree with us tennis fans, it's more on the psychological part of the game.
Both Legends absolutely right about this all its all about psychological they need to be prepared for this as its not easy job these big 3 ruling for very long time with atitude and and good game and new generation missing this all may be someone bring change in near future and we will watch this all.
