Once again England have got an opportunity to win the match. We don't know how far this is gonna happen in favour of England, because they've been experiencing bad luck unable to win the match which is completely in their hands. Already 377 runs leading and we can expect this to reach a maximum of 400 runs as Anderson and Broad were on the crease. Very few chases have taken place crossing 400+ runs and with two complete days left Australia will try to win the match and win the series.

Chasing 377+ runs looks daunting in 4th inning but we still have full 2 days left in this match. A small shower could play into England's hand.

Ofc, England will have to search for 10 wickets but this could be tricky as well because when the opposition has more than enough time to bat, then anything is possible. A fair amount of teams had done this in the past on rank turners or spicy seam-bouncy wickets.

This wicket seems to have enough purchase for batters and looks like it's becoming easy to bat on, at least the scorecard pointing towards it.

First inning - 283
second inning - 295
Third inning -377 and counting

At the end of the third day, the England team collected 389 runs. And they managed to take a lead of 377 runs. And I think that's enough to win. However, Australia's two bowlers, Mitchell Starc and Todd Murphy, bowled brilliantly. Starc managed to pick up 4 wickets and Murphy 3 wickets. However, the outcome of the match will depend on the performance of Australia's batsmen. It is difficult to bat well in the last innings. It is not an easy task to score 400 runs in the last innings on such a pitch. I think England will win this match. But still the chances of both teams winning are 50-50.
England have a lead of 377 runs and they may or may not able to add 10 to 15 runs tomorrow since they have only one wicket left. England lost the track when Joe Root got out and after that wickets kept falling. The lead must be over 400 runs at the end of 3rd days play. I dont think England are in safe zone if they give a target of 380 runs tomorrow as Australians have a strong batting line and they are capable of chasing such totals quite easily.
Although Stuart Broad and James Anderson are known as bowlers, They can also perform good batting. Stuart Broad has a Test batting career high score of 169 to his name. On the other hand James Anderson has a good innings record of 81 runs. So expecting 10 to 15 runs from their partnership is not impossible. If they can be set on the pitch then the score will be more. Australia is a good team and in their favor it is not too difficult to score according to the target.

Believe it or not it's v
ENG 364/6 with a lead of 352, putting themselves in a strong position to win the 5th test. If ENG do level the series and win the 5th test it’d be a real shame because rightfully they should have won The Ashes. Only rain would have helped AUS retain them because ENG were battering them in the 4th test before rain intervened. It’ll be interesting to see how the final test plays out.
England also played very well in the 4th match but that match ended up being a draw.  However, in the first match, England started well in the second innings, but in the end, they did not seem to be able to sustain their good performance.  Their current score of 340/9 is not a very good score. I think Australia can easily overcome it. With just one wicket to go, England look unlikely to cross 400 as their best batsmen are already got out.

From here it's not even 50-50 chasing target of more than 350 is impossible no matter which track you are on. Also England bowling was pretty good in the first innings as well so i don't see any chance for Aussies in this match now. I belive best bet for Aussies might be to bat as slow and carefully as possible to make it closer to a draw.

That's the game of cricket. Weather always is a barrier in literally every format of the game, but it especially is horrendous in tests. Australia got really lucky here for sure, but England got lucky in the past too.

Remember the 2019 controversial ODI WC final? NZ got screwed by England in a similar fashion.

England's batsmen did not play well in the first innings, but they did not make any mistakes in the second innings. England's batsmen have batted well. Especially England's top order played very well. Every batsman had a good strike rate in the Test match as well. England collected 375 runs in 77 overs. England team will probably be able to provide a target of 380-390 runs. And on such a pitch it is a very good target. England's chances of winning are high if the bowlers are able to bowl controlled bowling from the beginning of the innings. The series is likely to end at 2-2.

By the end of the first innings for both the England and Australian teams, the match was almost evenly poised and it now all depends upon the second innings of both the teams that will decide the fate of this test match.

Right now I will favor the England team as they have started well in the 2nd innings and scored 87 runs with a loss on only one wicket. They lose their first wicket just now when Ben Duckett was out making 42 runs. Zak Crawley is also looking good at 40 runs and above all, the England team is looking aggressive and wants to score quickly. The more they score without losing wickets, the more pressure on the Australian team will increase.

England are right on the top at the moment as they have scored 336 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. England are scoring runs with 5 runs per over. Joe Root was victim of nervous 90's,  he got out at 91 runs. Still 20 more overs to be bowled today and England will definitely take the lead to 400 before stumps of day 3. It will not be easy to chase a target of 400 runs against in form English team that's desperate to draw Ashes.

England are playing well with both the bat and ball and truly deserve to win this finale. They got really unlucky in the last test thanks to rain since they could have won this series if they win this ongoing test.

Overall, another great Ashes which was almost perfect!
Had the fourth Test not been rained out, England would have won and the Tests would have been tied. The winner and loser of the fifth test was decided by the team that did better in batting and bowling.
But the way England is batting aggressively in ODI style, then it can be safely said that England is batting aggressively to defeat Australia. By the last update of England's second innings, England had scored 277 runs and managed to take a lead of 265 runs.
England did not play that well in the first innings but on the other hand Australia also managed to collect only a few runs more than England in the first innings.  Coming to the second innings England are playing very well they scored 327 runs and lost only 4 wickets.  This suggests that they can score more than 450 runs.  Although Australia is a good team but if England can score above 450 runs in the second innings then Australia will be under a lot of pressure and it will be very challenging to win the match.

England saved many series in a similar fashion. I remember a few, in recent memory, it was against India in Nottingham (1st test-2021 India tour of England-). India needed just 150 runs and had 9 wickets in the bank and then it rained. The series ended with a 2-2 scoreline.

The point is it happens to everyone and we should just move on.

England are rocking at the moment. Australia are seriously struggling unexpectedly when they were in a strong position earlier. Smith tried his best, but he couldn't do much on his own while the rest fell like dominoes.

Australia and England each got all out in their first innings but one thing is that Australia batted till 103 overs in their first innings and they were all out for 295 all out. On the other hand, England were all out for 283 runs in just 54 overs. Australia faced the first innings in such a defensive mood that they scored 295 against England's double ball. But England should have faced a little defensive mood in the first innings but England did not do that at all.

Ever since McCullum took charge of the team, England have always been used to playing challenging games. England's first innings and Australia's first innings runs are almost equal but the difference between the two teams is that England batted 50 plus overs to get the same number of runs Australia batted over 100 covers. In the first test match, Australia finished their first innings with a lead of 12 runs, England again started their second innings game from a deficit of 12 runs on the third day, where England has lost 2 wickets and scored 199 runs. England are leading by 187 runs in the second innings so far. A brilliant start for England in the second innings. England still have all the wickets so expect a big target for Australia.

England were bowled out for 285 in their first innings but I would say the way the England team batted looked like they were playing an ODI their batting lines were quite excited. I think England will correct the mistakes they made in their batting line in the first innings, hopefully in the second innings their opening pair will play very cautiously and try to increase their scores, then they can give Australia a big lead. Zak Crawey and Duckett have a very good partnership. Both of them batted brilliantly. Especially Zak Crawey scored 71 runs off 73 balls, his great innings was stopped by Mitchell Starc. It is expected that England's next batsmen will play well and they will give Australia a big run target. Let's see how England can give Australia a lead in the second innings.

England come to bat in the second innings and they have lost 1 wicket at the moment. Australia lost their entire wicket for 295 in the first innings and later England reached their target. And already England have scored well and have a lead of 118 runs so far. England's batsman Zak Crawley had an outstanding batting performance as he scored 71 runs off 73 balls. Zak Crawley will surely play well to score a century. He will be able to score a century if he stays at the crease. England can certainly make a good run on their third day if the batsmen are batting well and can give a good run lead.

WTH. I didn't notice it till now. It seems England played with ODI mode. However, I thought Australia might get all out under 250 runs. But, nice to see that they fought well and took a little lead after the first innings. All English bowlers were good in this match so far.

We discussed why ECB is still giving a chance to James Anderson while he is not performing well. Well, James Anderson played four matches in this series (Including this one) and got five wickets so far. This might not be impressive, but still, he deserves the chance to be in the squad. He has the experience and skill to come back.

England oncd again have started innings with aggressive mode. After 16 overs England are 79 for no loss and scoring rate is almost around 5. My guess is England will have a chance if they can give target of over 400 runs. Anything less then that will easily be chased by Aussies.
It's best time for Anderson to take retirement from test format also. He is quite old now and must be replaced by some young talent.
