The third test between New Zealand and India was an emotional rollercoaster. A high volatility for odd changes for betting.
After New Zealand were all out for 174, I was almost certain that India would win it. All they needed was 147 runs. But to everyone's surprise, India were again restricted for a low total. Except for 64 from Rishab Pant, the rest of 10 players made just 35 runs.
The more humiliating result is India has been whitewashed in a test series at home. This is the first such record.

Also, Pant got unlucky with that controversial call.
Pant dismissal wasn't really too much controversial. There was clear audio spike when the ball passed the bat. Rishabh Pant was doing very well, that's why some supporters might address his wicket as controversial. But I would blame the captain Rohit Sharma for this defeat. He was in a hurry mode to finish the game instead of showing some responsibilities, and got out by playing a poor shot. It was only 3rd day of the match, they could have won it by building up a good opening partnership by playing in slow and steady mode.

It was unthinkable that an experienced team like India would fail to win at a target of just 147 runs. Indian fans were sure that India was going to win this match. If the batsmen of the Indian squad would have batted a little slower, and only tried to stay at the crease, then the Indian team would have been able to reach the target of victory in this match very easily. But the Indian batsmen were too hasty. Rishab Pant was able to play an innings requiring 64 runs but he collected 64 runs from 57 balls. Rishab Pant batted at 112 strike rate. Indian batsmen would have been able to collect 147 runs only if they had stayed at the crease.

Two bowlers of Indian squad Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja bowled well. These two bowlers took 17 wickets. New Zealand's Ajaz Patel picked up 11 wickets and Glenn Phillips picked up 4 wickets as Ajaz Patel's excellent bowling allowed India to score only 121 runs in the second innings. Ajaz Patel took 57 runs with 6 wickets and Phillips took 42 runs with 3 wickets.

Srilanka playing 1 series in SA and 1 at home against Australia so right now it's balanced for them.

IMO, unofficially India are almost out. There is no way we are winning 4 tests in Australia.

India doesn't deserve to be in WTC and this will teach them a valuable lesson of how to build a separate team for test format instead of going with the star players. Kiwis are fighter so I want them to be in finals to make it exciting.

Indian Players might be busy with IPL retentions, which why they didn't practice well for the match. Cheesy
They shouldn't get in and rightly so.

Kiwis winning against India in India might be their biggest test achievement because whitewashing India is rare so yeah they are fighters but they are up against England so i am not sure about their WTC finals.

The tried and tested strategy of preparing dust bowls for home series against SENA teams is not really working for the sub-continental teams. In recent weeks, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan all suffered crushing defeats while trying to do this. And it is perplexing for me to see India still continuing with this strategy. Their spinners are near retirement. Ravichandran Ashwin is 38 years old, while Ravindra Jadeja is close to 36. Rather than depending on the spinners, they could have prepared pace-friendly tracks. Remember that New Zealand had William O’Rourke and Matt Henry opening the bowling for them.

That's a dumb and knee jerk reaction.

India lost the home series after 12 years and won 18 consecutive series. I agree it was a humiliating and humbling experience but you don't change the tried and successfully tested system after losing 1 series. There are problems in batting and potential transition in the team, both batting (Rohit-Kohli) and bowling (Ash-Jaddu). You have to address those issues, not the behavior of pitches.

Australia lost 2 back to back home series against India, did they switch their pitches to rank turner instead of bouncy seam wickets? No, they didn't so why should India?

India scored 263 runs in the first innings. India managed to take a small lead of 28 runs. But the performance of the Indian batsmen was not good even in the first innings. Only Gill and Pant were able to bat responsibly.

But after the New Zealand team set a target of 147 runs, perhaps no one thought that India would lose this match. Indian team could not collect only 147 runs. This is really a shame for India. India lost every match in the home series. Indian batsmen should be more diligent. For a long time we have been seeing poor performances from Indian batsmen.
The main reason India lost was the failure of their batsmen. The target of 147 runs at home was very easy, but the Indian batsmen could not bat well with patience. Apart from Rishabh Pant, none of the other batsmen could do well. If one more batsman along with Rishabh Pant could have batted a bit better then India could have won. Glenn Phillips and Ajaz Patel both bowled well. Especially Ajaz Patel performance was excellent he took 6 wickets alone. However, as the target was low, many thought India would win but in the end the New Zealand bowlers surprised everyone. In the end, India lost and were shamefully whitewashed at home.

I just can't believe what i saw today. Indian batting line collapsed once again and all they could make in the 2nd innings was 127 runs. This is not the Indian team that we have known over the years that are known for their strong batting lineup. Yes, once or twice, a strong team can fail too but not like the way the Indian team failed a number of times in this series with the New Zealand team.

Ajaz Patel was the player of the match who destroyed the Indian batting line, picked up 5 wickets in the first innings and 6 wickets in the 2nd. Rishabh Pant was the only player who wanted to stay at the wicket while rest of the Indian batting was in a hurry to move back to the pavilion. To be honest, there is nothing to discuss about the Indian batsmen, they all disappointed.

^^^ 5 teams fighting for the qualification for the final. But I think Sri Lanka is the least favored one out of these teams, because most of their remaining matches are in SENA nations and they have historically performed poorly in such conditions. Australia seems to be almost sure to qualify, so the fight maybe between India, New Zealand and South Africa. The picture will be a bit clear in the next 2 months or so, when the Border–Gavaskar Trophy will be completed (this time Australia are the hosts).

Australia seems fav but anything can happen, even a tight series against India could hamper their chances and they have to travel to Sri Lanka as well, Lankans seem to be doing more than okay nowadays.

Can't help so doing mental gymnastics for fun.

To India to qualify.

-Srilanka should win 1 test and draw 1 test against SA, this will hurt Protea's chances and then the same thing should repeat when Pak is up against SA.
- England beating New Zealand will also help  Grin
- Australia whitewashing SL and losing against India 1-3.

WTC table update

- Some drastic changes for India and now they need to win 4 matches in the next 6 fixtures. 5 are against Australia, The WTC final seems like a dream now.
- No changes for Australia
- South Africa is in alright position atm because they won 1 match against Bangladesh.
- Kiwis has entered the WTC final race, given they win their next 4 matches (1 against India + 3 matches at home against England)

WTC table update

Finally, an impossible thing happened. First time in WTC history (5 years) India has slipped into 2nd position and now things are so bad that they are not a firm favorite to play finals, even if they win 4-0 against Australia (Which won't happen). It's fair to say that they are out of the race and the odds are heavily against up like 50-1 and unfortunately depends on other team's results but still have to win against Australia.

Kiwis whitewashing India made the WTC finals competition extremely interesting and the top 5 teams are fighting for 2 seats. Every series and every match is important for all 5 teams.

Apart from Pant's 64 runs, the rest of the batsmen would have taken only 83 runs out of 147 runs but if you look at the scoreboard you will understand clearly.
A strong team like India has only eight batsmen out in single digits. What is the probability of a team scoring if 8 batsmen are out in single digits in a test like cricket?
I think after this shameful historic defeat Indian cricket may need accountability of management and players. Despite the presence of legends such as Rahit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Indian cricket lovers cannot accept such a shameful defeat.

Team India batted well in their first innings and finished the first innings ahead of New Zealand and bowled New Zealand out in the second innings with few runs which ensured an easy target for India. But even with such an easy target, India was defeated by 25 runs in the third Test match against New Zealand. Such a good batting line-up but the Whites have lost three out of three Test matches against New Zealand. Indian fans would have forgotten about the first two matches if India could have gifted them a win in the third match but India failed there. The New Zealand team must be congratulated as they came to Indian soil and performed well against India and beat India in three consecutive matches.

As long as Rishabh pants, India can and should dream of winning.  Rishabh Pant will have to stay on the wicket and be patient enough not to misperform. Make a wrong decision and that wrong decision must pay in defeat. He has stayed on the wicket and if he stays for another 50 runs, he can certainly not be faulted. After five wickets fell for 29 runs, India were disoriented as Rishabh Pant was the only one trying to pull away from the brink of disaster. With the lunch break underway, it is likely that the team's coaches will advise Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar on how to tackle the next overs keeping the wickets intact.

In the end, the Indian team was defeated in the last match of the series as well. But I will say this result was totally unexpected. I thought at least we will see India win in the last match. But the Indian team failed to win this match too.

The only reason India lost in every match of the series was their poor batting. Washington Sundar and Jadeja bowled well in this match. So the New Zealand team has given a very small target. The Indian team failed to win the target of only 147 runs. India lost all the wickets to collect only 121 runs. I did not expect to see such terrible batting from experienced Indian batsmen.

IMO some heads should roll in top order especially the likes of Kohli and Rohit. Need accountability, which is missing and can't hide behind intent talk.

The likes of Rahane and Puji faced an Axe because of this so called intent.

Edit: Kiwis have scripted history by whitewashing India 3-0 in their own backyard. Insanity! Also, Pant got unlucky with that controversial call.
It was unfortunate and a gray area but usually, such a call goes in favor of the batter when the on-field decision is not out. Not today. It's part of the game, so it's all good and we shouldn't read much into it.

Congratulations Kiwis...
History was made today in a Test match, there was no country in cricket that could whitewash India in a Test on India's own home ground. New Zealand made history where they whitewashed India in Tests on Indian soil that too by a huge margin. Glenn Phillips and Azaz Patel created history by crushing India's batting order. But sadly despite India having a full strength squad today this Test series has to be whitewashed only because of the complete failure of the top order batsmen. Today will be a very memorable day for the Indian audience and cricket lovers.

Kohli and Sharma are just deadweights dragging the whole team down at this point. Gill and Jaiswal have been pretty good on top, but these two keep playing like crap again and again throughout this series.

As Harsha says, Pant is doing Pant stuff while the rest are just following his lead. He is standing between 2-1 and 3-0 right now. Insane pressure, but he seems relaxed as usual.

Meanwhile, India has lost 5 wickets and their latest target is 100 runs and they still have 5 wickets intact. It is expected that India will be able to avoid the white wash with this win which created a chance for India to win. Wicket-keeping batsmen Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja are unbeaten and are trying to reach their target with defensive batting. Experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma can't expect such a performance as they have been out so badly and got out for so few runs which is a shame for the Indian team. The performance of the players is not the same every time and their luck did not help them.

As spectators we will have to wait for some more time to see who wins and those who prepare to bet might try to take India side but New Zealand chances of winning are not over.
I think India still have a chance to win this match as their wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is still unbeaten. We have seen India perform poorly throughout this series, losing the first two Test matches mainly due to their poor performances. India need 55 runs to win the third match with four wickets still in hand. Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar are currently at the crease for India. A lot of responsibility is on these two batsmen because if these two batsman perform well then maybe their team India can win today's match.

If India's top order batsmen Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Subhman Gill, Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan had batted patiently, it might have been easier for India to win today's match. If India lose to New Zealand in this match today, they might be whitewashed in the Test series by 3-0.
