England needs another 263 runs to avoid the follow on. Will they be able to score that much? Alex Lees and Ollie Pope are looking comfortable out there, and they are scoring runs at a brisk pace. New Zealand bowlers apart from Matt Henry are looking threatening. The outcome of the match will be clear by today (3rd day). If England manages to avoid the follow on, then in all probability they will be able to save the match. Given the lack of support bowlers (especially the pacers) are getting from the pitch, it is perfectly doable.

England was able to collect 90 runs at the end of the second day thanks to the extraordinary pairing of Alex Lee and Ollie Pope. They are playing well enough. My guess is that England will be able to easily cross the 553-run target and the match will be a draw.
After the first wicket England was able to build up a partnership and it looks like the pitch is not offering anything for the bowlers and there are bets coming in for a draw, but i still believe it is too early to predict that as there is plenty of time remaining in this match, i am expecting the pitch to slow down considerably in the final two days and the match depends upon how England will be able to score in their first innings.

New Zealand finished the innings with 553 runs. England stumbled at the start of the batting. England lost the first wicket by just 6 runs. Zak Crawley returned to the dressing room with just 4 runs. New Zealand's innings ended with 553 runs. Daryl Mitchell returned to the dressing room with 190 runs. England will probably get a chance to bat in 30 overs today. And from the start of the innings, England's players must play responsibly. And I would say England players should be batting for the goal of a draw. And must collect at least 500 runs. If England's batting collapses in the first innings, then England will lose this match.
Last match the score was low and everyone were expecting a win from New Zealand, but the match turned towards England. This match have got the increased chance of ending in a draw. Surely England will make a good score. Atleast we'll see a 400+ runs from England in its first innings.

Stokes wins the toss and opt to bowl, for straight 127 overs and 5 sessions  Undecided

No test playing skipper want this scenario. It's very demoralizing situation to look at considering fielders are not helping the bowlers either and keep dropping sitters every where. Daryl Mitchell is reaping the rewards, ofc.

Since this is a batting friendly pitch, it is only normal that an experienced Test batsman from New Zealand would give such a performance. And they will probably declare the innings after collecting more than 550. The second day we will probably watch the New Zealand's batting, and the next two days will probably see England's batting. I think the probability of a match being drawn is 90%.
Could have been exactly opposite if Poms were batting first.

BTW, what happened to Matthew Potts? All of a sudden it looks as if he has run out of steam.
No assistance from the pitch and bowling sub 130kmph doesn't help either when ball isn't even reverse swinging.

On green seaming wicket medium pacer or even average seamer can terrorise the batters but on flat wickets they are dead weight. Potts is still new and very young so he'll learn the art of bowling on such pitches.

Ha! 4 quick wickets.

It was such an easy catch, and when you drop such chances the price needs to be paid. As of now, Daryl Mitchell is inching towards his double ton, while New Zealand is also inching towards a total of 500. I don't know whether the New Zealand captain will allow Mitchell to complete his 200. The pitch is more supportive towards the batsmen when compared to the one with first test. IMO, they should try to get a total of around 550-600 before declaring. BTW, what happened to Matthew Potts? All of a sudden it looks as if he has run out of steam.

New Zealand lost their sixth wicket for 496 runs. Michael Bracewell returned to the dressing room with 49 runs. If Daryl Mitchell's wicket could be picked up then maybe New Zealand's innings will not be very long. However, New Zealand has already collected more than 510 runs. And such a large collection is enough to draw the match. There is no possibility of New Zealand losing this match if they do not perform very badly in the second innings.

Play is stopped in England vs Newzealand test due to rain. Newzealand are in very good position at the moment as they have scored 481/5. If rain continues then it will be better for Newzealand to declare there innings and let's England bat. Newzealand can't afford to draw this game.

And what should ICC do about it? Corner/Bully BCCI? I'm sure it won't go well.

ICC is never going to say anything that BCCI does not support because they know very well if BCCI does not stand with ICC, it will be a really bad time for the ICC. So I don't know if there is any way around it but currently, I don't have any solution to this problem.
Only possible solution for ICC would be to create alternate source of revenue and new market (first step should be start multi nation WC and discard existing formula), in a longer run they can't afford to depend on Indian market only. BCCI have ambition to expand IPL footprints in the future, we don't know how would it look like after 10 years as IPL is still new product but if somehow it clicks then Broadcaster/advertisers  are going to divert all money to IPL instead of ICC events, it's already started to happen.

New Zealand team is at the front seat now after the end day one. They have collected 318 runs by losing 4 wickets only. The situation of the game was balanced between both teams until the end of second session. But New Zealand has turned the game on their favour with the partnership of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell. The situation of the game could have been different if Root didn't drop the catch of Daryl Mitchell in the 43rd over. England has dropped few other opportunities too.

I didn't watched the entire match, but I saw two easy catches being dropped (one of them being that of Daryl Mitchell). Now New Zealand is all set to build a huge total somewhere in the range of 500-600, and England is staring towards an innings defeat. Matthew Potts and Stuart Broad, who bowled so well in the first test failed to trouble batsmen this time. And the spinner (Jack Leach) never looked threatening, and he was treated like a club bowler by both Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell. New Zealand is scoring runs at a quick pace, and they have plenty of time left to win this match.
It was only the first day of the match. Just like the last test match, this match too Mitchell and Blundell have taken all the responsibility of the team. I hope they are able to bat today too and do not lose their wicket like they did on the next day of the last test match. I am sur England will come back and stop these two to score anymore runs.

After first test drama, New Zealand are in full mood to win this game and level the series. On day 1 Newzealand are in hurry to score runs, there CRR was 3.65 which is quite high in test. It will be too early to say who will win this game. We have to see how England respond to this score..

It was going so well for the kiwis but 2 back to back overs from Stokes and Jimmy changed the session equation (2 wickets before the lunch).
It was clearly tilting towards blackcaps but now first session is evenly poised between both squad.

Vaccinized.. immunity level is full.
England won the toss and elected to bowl. New Zealand has yet to take a wicket in 16 overs and they have managed to score 55 runs. The condition of the pitch makes it look like a batting-friendly pitch. And so in today's match, I am expecting a high score. We will probably see more than 400 runs from the New Zealand team. And if the pitch is batting friendly, the match is most likely to be drawn.

New Zealand scored 304 runs. And they lost 4 wickets, they lost the first wicket by 82 runs and lost the fourth wicket by 169 runs. Mitchell and Blundell have a 135-run partnership. And what you did say, New Zealand can easily collect more than 400 runs. New Zealand's run rate is good enough. They are collecting 3.8 runs per over.

England  : New Zealand

The second Test between England and New Zealand will be played in Nottingham shortly after. The first Test match was very competitive and enjoyable. We saw the batting disaster of both the teams in the first innings. We had a great performance in the first innings and in the second innings. Since England won the first match, New Zealand will try hard to win the second match. I look forward to watching another competitive Test match. Hopefully the match will be enjoyable.
Things were not easy for England during the first test. If the New Zealand bowlers had managed to take one more crucial wicket in the second innings, then England would have lost the match. They won the match, thanks to Joe Root, James Anderson and Matthew Potts. BTW, I heard that Matt Henry may get selected for the playing XI in second test and I should say that this is an excellent move from New Zealand. Colin de Grandhomme was a failure during the first test, and so was the spinner Ajaz Patel.

Kiwi bowlers did not perform well in the second innings of the first match. If they had bowled a little better, the match would have been completely under New Zealand's control. And so today they have added Matt Henry to the squad. And hopefully, from the last match, we will see more tidy and controlled bowling by the New Zealand bowlers in today's match. Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Matt Henry are all experienced bowlers.
