This is the first time in my 36 years of watching cricket a series is hanging on the ropes for the decision by the ICC   Cheesy. Yesterday the Indian team was cleared to play the match but today someone got positive test results and so is the reason they decided to not play and since we are going through a pandemic the ICC will rule this as an abandoned match or they will reschedule the match at a later time which i think is appropriate.
ECB has clearly said that the new rescheduled match would be considered as a one-off test and not the part of this series, so ideally India has won this series as of now, but I don't think any sort of felicitation would take place,

How come India won the series ?  The symptoms / infection of covid was in the Indian team and not in the England team. So this is unfair that you consider this match as a draw which makes India to win the series.

Also i fear that Covid will remain with us for quite a long time and ICC should make a clear cut rule as if what happens to the match /series if any team is found infected in the middle of the match or series.

My reading

- India was there for 4 months.
- There was no bubble, all info is available in public domain.
- Before the series BCCI requested ECB to schedule series bit early, more importantly requested to reduce 9 days gap between 2nd and 3rd test so that they can get all players for IPL in timely manner.
- ECB declined due to The 100 tourney.
- Damadji got covid along with staff
- Second Physio also got positive, this triggered the drama cause players were in contact due to obvious reason.
- Players got concerned due to health, family and IPL which is obvious because of big pay check (no one admitting tho lol)
- ECB don't want to look bad in their country, which is understandable hence "forfeited" statement but BCCI got a bigger $ick so ECB retracted the statement with in minutes.
- ECB lost around $30 million because of cancellation, concern was genuine but BCCI might have counter this argument by saying that $300 million (IPL, 1 full season is worth $500-$600 m) is more important.
- BCCI is not CSA, SLC (every body know what happend in South Africa and Sri lanka) so no question of arm twisting.
- ECB and BCCI officials are in bed together anyway, that's why they are part of PIG 3 club so there would be zero effect in their business relationship at all.
- Some English players already pulled out last year due to injuries and mental health.

If the match is going to be rescheduled, then what is ICC' role here? India is leading the series 2-1 and the 5th match will be played sometime later. The outcome of that match will decide whether the series is tied 2-2, or India wins by a margin of 2-1 or 3-1. The ECB wants India to forfeit the match, but the demand is not justifiable unless they can prove that someone in the Indian contingent breached the bio-bubble and got infected with COVID. I will not rule out that chance though. Everyone know what happened in Sri Lanka. Krunal Pandya breached the bio-bubble and infected half a dozen players. But the BCCI never had the courage to punish Krunal and he faced no disciplinary action.

I enjoyed every bit of this tournament. I was expecting that the last match would happen because players had tested negative but ECB decided not to go with it and BCCI accepted their request. In the end, India won the series and the last match if happens does not matter now. IPL is important for BCCI as it is one event that generated a lot of revenue for the Indian board. ECB if they stop their players from earning money from IPL will suffer more. There is no way they can stop their players from playing in one of the most lucrative tournament in cricket history. The players might not agree to any negative decision made by ECB on IPL.

So is there a power battle going on between BCCI and the ECB, if so it will be funny to see the end result and how ECB will fair in their decision making because they will loose big if they do not allow England players to play in the IPL. They are gaining strength by allowing their players to play anywhere in the world and if they start restricting players then it will not end up better for the game of cricket.

This is a pandemic situation and they need to negotiate and come up with something because it was a really interesting series and i really would like to see the final Test to see how both of these team performs.

I would like to say that this series is completely controlled by the Indian bowlers. It was expected of them that they would bowl well. But the fact that they batted brilliantly, and assisted the team by collecting runs at the required time, was basically the turning point of the match. England did not expect the Indian bowlers are can batted so well.

If players like Bumrah and Shami are able to build 100 run partnership, then it shows the England bowlers in poor light. If I am not wrong, JSRAW already made a post on what happened back then. England bowlers wanted revenge for the barrage of bouncers Bumrah delivered on Anderson, and they were not trying to take his wicket. And when they realized their mistake, it was too late. Just shows what went wrong for England - tactics, captaincy, temperament, discipline.etc. Even if Archer was available, I think he would have made zero impact.

England's captain had many mistakes. They can't use the right bowler at the right time. And so players like Bumrah and Shami were able to score so many runs. Moreover, the England team is more dependent on Joe Root. Their batsmen may not be in form. The performance of all the batsmen was irregular.

2-2? Lol. ECB got lucky with the World Cup final and are now trying to save their faces through India forfeiting making it 2-2 which is absolute crap. Final result is 2-1 in my opinion. Honestly, 3-1 seems more likely when compared to 2-2.

Also, I do agree with the decision to call off the test since lack of physios dealt a big blow to the Indian team which could have seriously screwed them if they decided to go ahead with the final test.

So what's the final result, is it 2-2 or 3-1 ?  It's quite confusing till now as no one knows about it exactly. Even when i check cricinfo commentary on this match, they are not sure even.

The initial wording of the statement from the ECB, as per their website, stated that India would be "forfeiting" the match, meaning the series would finish 2-2. That word is missing now, so we await clarification of what this means for the series.

I wanted to see the match, one of the best Test series i have seen in a long time as all the matches were competitive and it is unfortunate that the players and the staff members are getting positive left and right. Not sure how they are getting when they are living in a bubble or are they breaching the bubble to get infected ?.

The official statement was, India could not field a team for the final Test. They have a long list of players and yesterday the news was everyone tested negative and now what happened.

India have forfeited the final Test due to covid!!

2-2 series draw %uccckkkkk

Edit
Not forfeited, guess there is some confusion because ECB published some wrong statement.

Match Cancelled so result should be 2-1 to India

The fifth Test between England and India, scheduled to begin on Friday (September 10), has been cancelled.

"Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are unable to field a team," said an amended statement from ECB. A previous version of the statement had indicated that India would 'forfeit the match' which has since been removed.

Cricbuzz understands that the Indian players wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressing apprehension over playing the Test at Old Trafford.

The final and most interesting test  match will between England and India will start in a few hours from now. Man, i am excited about it.  Smiley

Could India win this series 3-1 or England should be able to draw it 1-1. I think it will be more justifiable based upon the both team performances, that the series is drawn.

You mean England drawing by 2-2? England would have won the matches, but they lost their composure in between. They got excellent starts in all of the matches so far, but at crucial stages they floundered and gave away that advantage. Giving away 100 run partnership for 9th wicket happens once in a while to all the teams. But for England it happened multiple times so far in this series. That shows a lack of planning and poor captaincy. Kohli was under fire before this series. But he has made a strong comeback (I am talking about captaincy, and not about batting).

If the Indian team would have accepted the ECB offer then India would have won the series comfortably. Virat took the right decision to continue with the final match as players have not tested positive. The final match would be more interesting as England has the chance to draw this tournament if they win the match.

I don't get it. How India is going to win the series, if they forfeit the final match? That will make it 2-2 from the current position of 2-1. And the suggestion from the ECB was ridiculous. How low can they stoop in order to save a series? If a match is called off, then it should be considered as a draw. The series should still be 2-1. They have lost to the visitors at home, and for me it looks as if they are not in a position to accept this reality. What is the honor in saving the series through these below the belt tactics?

What i heard from the news is that there is a covid scare in the Indian camp and will see how things will pan up as some of the coaching staff is infected and we should wait till the test results to come out to know whether everyone is fit to play the match.

The final test will go ahead as planned since some coaches and a staff member tested positive, but the all players tested negative which is great news.

Also, the ECB actually wanted India to forfeit the final match which key Indian players(Virat and Rohit) absolutely refused and I completely agree with them. Forfeiting the final test would ruin this amazing series between India and England.

however England have a major decision to make, and that is whether to play Anderson or rest him due to his heavy workload in this series. Furthermore India has no such worries hence that gives team India a slight edge over England, because they know their playing 11 is set and that’s why they’re my favourites to win this last match.
England needs to Anderson to play the final test because they will be looking to win the game and not let India get away with the series victory and since Stuart Broad is injured Anderson should be playing the final Test and the rest of the bowlers will follow him.
