Hitman cleared the fitness test still he may be rusty for a while because coming into play at different playing condition after a long break will make the things difficult for him personally but when we say experience then we can feel a bit safer because he knows how to tackle the condition at any situation.
Rohit Sharma is yet to prove himself in the Test format and it is not easy to be the opener in fast wickets and if you take a look at the balls Mayank Agarwal was dismissed then all of those balls were spotless top deliveries and any batman could have dismissed with those deliveries and Rohit Sharma is returning after an injury and i doubt whether he will make any impact.
Rohit Sharma was not a regular test cricket player, he concentrated more on the shorter format and got huge success as well in the recent years. He also can be considered as one of the best scorers once he reached certain balls and score on a game so early stage is the big issue for him even in this IPL he didn't play outstanding innings, he was an average player but compared to the young openers who failed miserably then he is the only choice for replacement now.

Rohit Sharma is 33 years old, and till now he has played only 32 test matches (now compare this to 87 matches for Virat Kohli, 79 for Cheteshwar Pujara, and 67 for Ajinkya Rahane). So obviously he is not that experienced in the longer format. But his test record is not that bad. He averages 46.54 with the bat, which is comparable to Pujara/Rahane.

Rahane has shown that he can win test matches as a captain, which means he need to get more opportunities. I do not think it would have been right for him to be replaced by Rohit Sharma. That would not have been ethically wrong. Keeping Rohit Sharma as a vice captain is a good decision as he has proven his ability as a good captain in ODIs in the past. His inclusion in the squad as a vice captain will only make the test team strong and he will be a great help to the captain too.

An experienced opener is very much needed for a Test match. If a team can't get off to a good start, they have to fight hard to get back on track. It would be a blessing for India if Rohit Sharma plays as Agarwal's replacement. India will be able to perform better if there are skilled and experienced players like Rohit Sharma in the team.

Rohit Sharma replacing Pujara as a Vice captain for next 2 games.
So Rohit Sharma will be playing in the next match and who he will be replacing, if so Mayank Agarwal will loose his position and Natarajan replaced Umesh Yadav but whether he will be playing in the match is yet to be known. Australia will be waiting for the fitness test of Warner and they need him in the team as they are struggling with the bat and the next match is crucial as India will be coming into the match with boosted confidence  .
Of course Rohit is going to replace Mayank Agarwal for sure because in both the matches shaw and Agarwal didn't give a good start to their innings which bring the struggle in real quick for other batsmen so having an experienced opener will solve a lot of problems in the middle order batsmen if they did then all the three departments of the Indian team will look too strong.

Latest news from the Indian test squad is that Thangarasu Natarajan will be replacing injured Umesh Yadav for the remaining two matches. I am not sure whether he will get a slot in the playing XI though, since Mohammed Siraj had a good outing in his debut test. I always had a feeling that Natarajan was more suitable for the longer format, when compared to the shorter one, but let's see how he performs (if he gets a chance).
How fortune change so quickly. He was replacement of Varun Chakarvarthy in T-20 and got his maiden cap. Then Saini got injured in ODI and Natarajan replaced him and earned ODI maiden cap, now Umesh is injured and he's in the squad. Although tough fight for 3rd Pacer (Shardul-
Saini-Natarajan)

That much luck I need my life or atleast in this 2021. Wink

I guess problem Natarajan maybe given a chance since he performed really well in this series already so selection committee was forced to take such decisions to avoid criticism from the cricket world.

I just hope that the NSW government can get the virus outbreak under control because it could risk the fourth test match being delayed as the Queensland government have closed its borders to NSW. So I really don't understand why they even had to have the test match played in Sydney when it could of been played in Melbourne again. Anyway lets hope that all is safe for this upcoming test match and that we have a great match.
Well they look quite determine to host the test, may be they should go ahead with no spectators if health minister or experts are really concern about the spreader.

They should be conducting the test match if not at this ground and if other venue is possible on last moment then should shift if the need be but taking a break/postponement would just break the jinx of the team as now they are highly motivated with the last win and would like to continue without any break .

I was looking forward to this match. Now that the match has been postponed due to the epidemic, it is sad news for us. Because the series is now tied at 1-1. The next match will be very exciting and competitive. India will want to win the series. And Australia will not want to lose any more matches in the series. I hope the situation will be normal, and the match will be held on time.

Oh! That is bad news, after the last match I was waiting for this match. I never thought that things will turn such bad due to the pandemic. Both teams have been playing really well and I had the opinion that the third test would be a close encounter. But, health is first, any news till when the match has been postponed?
So far no news has been received that the match has been postponed. But there are concerns over whether the match will be held in Sydney. The possibility of an outbreak of Cronavirus in Sydney could be further increased if outsiders travel to NSW, so perhaps the game will be postponed. Otherwise the venue may be changed. Or, visitors will not be allowed. Wait and see what the Australian Cricket Board will decides.

True indeed. And let's not blame it only on Kohli-Shastri. Everyone knows how there was a special CSK quota in the team at time of Dhoni it's because he was more suited with certain players especially with those whom he played in IPL. On the other hand KL Rahul got all hi chances in test at time of Kumble. After Shastri stepping in KL Rahul hasn't played a lot of test matches So i feel it's a pretty old tradition that's just going on.

Now the CSK quota seems to have been replaced with the RCB quota. Else, how can you justify the inclusion of Mohammed Siraj in the Indian test team? He performed well in the IPL, but that should not be the basis for his inclusion in the test team. Selection for the national team was always non-transparent in India. And I don't think that the situation will change anytime soon.

I think there needs to be made a balance in the team obviously dropping Pujara and Rahane to fit in KL Rahul in the side is a bit foolishness. But keeping a player in the squad for no reason doesn't makes sense. Moreover KL Rahul isn't the only example there are many other players Karun Nair is also such an example. It's just too much competition in the team to choose the best among best. Even Hanuma Vihari has similar statistics to that of Rahul. I think it's just that everyone has their own favourites including us and the selectors.

Pujara and Rahane are players who are more suited for the test format, while KL Rahul is more suited for shorter formats such as T20Is and ODIs. But I agree that there is a lot of competition for every slot in the national team. The player pool is huge and there is no dearth of talented players. And this means that despite having a lot of talent, if you don't enjoy the patronship of Kohili/Shastri, you may not feature in the team.

Pakistan lost the game but they fought well there, at least for draw if not for win. 2 previous visitors India and Windies lost badly there. I hope now PCB and misbah (PCB especially) give some respect to Fawad Alam. He's debuted in 2009 and played only 6 tests so far (2 100s).... you can imagine the drama here.

They lost the match my a considerable margin (101 runs), and just one more test match remains in this series for them. They lost the T20 series 2-1, and now they have lost the first test match. Individual brilliance was shown by a few players, but they need to win the matches to regain their lost glory. Fawad Alam is 35 years old, and I am not sure how much international career is left for him.
I was implying that PCB ruined his career with the petty politics and completely ignored him for 1 decade but he's still fighting despite his age.

I am not against favoritism overall if players performing every now n then but if any player failing on regular basis then its a red flag. You are giving long rope to some players and keeping some out because they failed couple of times. (Karun,Ashwin,Hanuma, Bhuvi etc)

Rahul already got countless chances at the top order at-least 13ish tests (26 innings) continuously despite failing in majority of games, his only 100 came when team didn't have anything to lose. If in next game KL Rahul gets another chance at the top order then its possible that Rohit might replace Hanuma Vihari at the middle order because he's considered a blue eyed boy. Its also possible that this could click in favor of team but not fair in long run when selecting team. I know Hanuma Vihari didn't have big numbers to show but he always batted according to team requirement. He was asked to open in tough condition when every opener failed to perform and even batted down the order when team needed, so far he proved himself worthy at the number 6 in his 10ish test career.

I agree we have fair amount of players contesting for top order, (Mayank-Shaw are out of form) Rahul failed so far and Rohit is yet to tested in SENA countries, that's why i want to see Rohit at top order in the next test and prove himself if he's capable to bat against new ball or not. He did exceptionally well in sub-continent but he's not alone and list is freaking long for Indian batsmen.
Rohit I think will definitely get a place in playing XI it's not merely because of his performance but the morale that he gives to the team. The folks in the team would feel much more confident with Rohit in the squad even thought he isn't that good in tests but he still is one of the best batsmen in other formats. He adds a lot of confidende especially if he comes in top order. Instead
I think if Hanuma Vihari is dropped he isn't going to get a lot of chances after this. He doesn't has that favouritism amongst selecters and also doesn't has a place in ODI or T20 to prove himself back. Most probably he would become just another name like Karun Nair or Wasim Jaffer maybe.
