SA vs Pakistan test match is also quite interesting on bowling friendly pitch. SA were wrapped under 220 and Pakistan have lost quick 4 wickets on just 33 runs. Pakistan bowled well to maintain them under 220 as opener Elgar played well for 58 and still not able to score big. But SA came back strongly by picking openers quickly and game is balanced now.

I think Indian pacers wouldn't play a big role in the series it's the spinners who would make the most out of this series. Many are forgetting that we are back into the subcontinent now. The ball doesn't bounce here like Australia. It's the turn of the pitches that can give India the added advantage. It would be interesting to see performance of pacers here as they might not get the extra help from the pitch here. Ashwin/ Sundar on the other hand will be the key for India to win the series. Even in front of Sri Lanka we saw English batsmen struggling to play against Lasith Enbuldeniya but playing pacers quite comfortably. It's going to be a high scoring series.
Obviously spin going to play big role. Indian bowlers like Ishant-Shami-Yadav always outbowl opposition seamers in India, especially Umesh Yadav is beast in Indian pitches with his reverse swing, unfortunately he's injured. Its first home series for Bumrah so we have to see how he starts his home run.

Ashwin-Sundar-Kuldeep trio could create havoc in English camp, i think they should go with this trio. On the other hand its a weakest English bowling line up i have ever seen in this decade but Indian team shouldn't underestimate them, they have a long history of throwing wickets against spinners. For Poms Moin Ali would be key.
I somehow think that Indian squad must be boosted with ego after that win against Australia but I think with the senior players back in the squad they will bring back the ego to normalcy. But yes injuries can once again be a big issue for India considering this is equally longer and tiring tour. But best part is we now have a big bench strength we can afford 7-8 injuries.

India is most likely to go with two pacers and two spinners, in additional to a bowling all rounder (Jadeja or Sundar). And regarding the English bowlers, both their pacers and spinners seems to be in very good form. James Anderson and Stuart Broad are quite experienced and they know the Indian conditions, while spinners such as Dom Bess and Jack Leach are in excellent form.
If Saha is playing then may be 4 bowlers-6 batsmen combination. If not then Pant will keep the gloves, in that case we could expect 5 bowler combination, which is very handy in subcontinent and India never play with more than 6 specialist batsmen when in India.

I don't think they will go with Saha. There is no place in the squad for Saha now. Pant has proved himself enough in batting and with wicketkeeping he ain't that bad a keeper. So I don't think India would waste one crucial spot merely for an extra wicket keeper when we can get an all rounder in that place.

I have a feeling that 5 bowlers may be needed. Indian tracks are quite flat and with Joe Root in excellent form, we can expect England to bat for more than 100 overs in each innings. The pace bowlers may get tired in the hot and humid conditions and therefore the spinners are expected to share most of the workload. Going with Ashwin/Sundar/Kuldeep seems to be a good option.

Teams for first 2 tests
-Kohli leading the team and Hardik is making comeback.
-Jadeja/Shami are injured.
-Axar Patel selection is bit confusing but Gill, Shardul, Siraj, Denzel Washington Sundar are reaping the rewards.
-Dan Lawrence is exciting name in the English squad, watch out for this young cricketer.
Kohli and Sharma back so look like they are going with full force and this is good for match but not good for selectors because now they have tough time many youngsters after very good tour of Australia now want to do good at home against England but 3 players back which bring some good number of changes Dan Lawrence is done good in first test hopefully he will also do some good in India as already understanding pitches in this part of world.
Indian team almost unbeatable at home for quite some time and its calls it final frontier for a reason but records are meant to be broken that's what we learned in last week. Team India looking good but this England team is looks equally good and the way Joe Root making back 2 back 100s for fun, and James Anderson showing form by taking 6 wicket haul. Srilankans are light weight but still its a problem for India . We could expect fine game of cricket in coming weeks.

Lack of experience and not ready to stay on pitch for longer time results in this. Like considering the first innings played by SL many of us were impressed and hoping to continue and put a good fight in the match.
Sri Lanka is playing in their own grounds and they cannot field a competitive team to face England while the England spinners took advantage and took all the wickets while Sri Lanka struggled in the trap they set for England is a much bigger shame and England proved they are a world class team and could defeat teams in Asia.

The biggest challenge is the tour to India and it will be really competitive.

The match is heading towards a draw until Sri Lanka decides to hit some runs in ODI style and ask England to bat on last day.
But the question is do Sri Lanka team have balls to do what Former Australian team used to do?
Today we are in fourth day and we are going to have result because what a bowling from English Spinners duo Leach and Bess takes 4 wickets each and bring back England in business now they need 164 runs to win this second test and series even its very good target to chase but I am feeling Englaind can achieve this right now its very good prepartion for them before very long tour of India as Root is on fire with good bowling from Anderson Leach and Bess.
Right now England in chase of 164 runs  17/1 40 more overs left in today game mean we have surely today result for this match.
You gotcha!!! England wins today only. 2-0 series won in Srilanka would have boosted England's confidence as they head to face India in India.

Lasith Embuldeniya picked his 8th wicket of the match and if he can spin his magic we might see them win.
Lasith Embuldeniya is bowling well and picking up wickets but Sri Lanka is not having the score on board to win the match. England just need 51 more runs to win the Test with 6 wickets in hand, if he can spin his magic he needs to pick up an hat trick and expose the tail end players to win the match which is highly unlikely. If Muttiah Muralitharan was in the team they would have already won the match  Cheesy.

Lack of experience and not ready to stay on pitch for longer time results in this. Like considering the first innings played by SL many of us were impressed and hoping to continue and put a good fight in the match. But seeing the second innings just can demoralize anyone. They did not even were close to reach half number of runs as compared to first innings, shows how poorly they payed and England did a percent comeback in the match and resulted in 6 wicket win and also winning by 2-0 this series.

The spinners are getting purchase from the wicket and if Sri Lanka could put a decent total from this situation they can make this match competitive.
England spinners took 10 wickets and Sri Lanka is all out for 126 runs and England need 160 runs to win the match, really disappointing performance by the Sri Lankan batsman and i am hoping the pitch is difficult to bat for England as well and if that is the case the match will be interesting.

Not sure what is happening to Sri Lanka, in the last match they performed really poor in the first innings and they somehow tried to bat longer in the second innings and in this Test they performed well in the first innings but in the second innings they are playing as if they are bored to stay in the crease as they are struggling with just 67 for 6 and it will be just a replica of the last match. The spinners are getting purchase from the wicket and if Sri Lanka could put a decent total from this situation they can make this match competitive.

Don't know if they strategically schedule Sri Lanka series or not but yeah it was good move from the ECB.  . Srilankan were having hard time restricting Joe Root. I am hoping that Joe Root already ran out of all juice after 2 big tons Cheesy otherwise he's going to be a big problem. Their opening pair is looking very bad atm but they have at least 5-6 fine match winners.

Anderson - Broad duo is good but IMO more focus should be on their spin department, especially Moin Ali.

The English batsmen seems to be having issues against Sri Lankan spinners. Lasith Embuldeniya has so far picked up 7 wickets (he may end up with 8 ). Joe Root was exceptional, but hardly anyone else contributed with the bat. Their opening pair looks like the most vulnerable (Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley). I know that Crawley hit 267 against Pakistan. But if you take out that score, his test career would look pathetic.

One thing I liked about the England team is that they scheduled the tour very intelligently. They are coming to India after a tour in Sri Lanka, which means that they will be acclimatized with the sub-continental conditions (the ground conditions in Sri Lanka are very similar to those in India). Also, they have two very experienced pacers in James Anderson and Stuart Broad, who have a combined total of 1100 plus test wickets.

Root 186 run innings helped England to reach the target of SL innings as they just trial now by 42 runs and 1 wicket left. England team is strong as well as balanced side and it will be a good contest when they play with India. India's advantage will be their home ground and will also team be highly motivated as young guys did impossible in Australia. Though out of those youngsters not sure how many will play against England but Seniors will be under pressure to perform as their position in team would just get be shaky if they do not do well in couple of matches else new players would be given chance now.
